I am so excited. My Hisako is going to bloom for me. I've never seen one bloom before so this is really exciting. I wonder how long it will be before it blooms.

Jesse...
Hisako is a definite favorite of mine with those glossy, silver patterened leaves. A friend of mine has hers in bloom now, also. I wonder if it's the time of year? My Hisako is still a bit immature to bloom but I love it.

This is so exciting! Thanks for letting us watch the show unfold. I've got one also -- hasn't bloomed yet, but what a pretty plant!

What amazing foliage never mind the flowers!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Galanthophile I feel the same way ! I am lucky I still have my large ones and some babies growing and was able to share several with DG Peeps ! It's my favorite Chirita ! Easy to Progate and grow. Excepts neglect. likes any light and like it dry and can handle weather of 40 degrees. and yes again I bought it for the foliage !

Mine is on almost the exact same blooming course, Jesse! I'll try to get a picture of mine and post it today. The bud looks so cool! Shaped sort of like a fish, I think! Your plant is beautiful!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Two bloomers ! Yeah you will love it's flowers are so pretty and cool looking !

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Well, I'm convinced! He's definitely on MY list, now! Hopefully they will have one next time I get to Logee's!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

When I saw it on the Gesneraid web sight I had to have one. I bought mine last Fall from Bluebirds greenhouse but I don't see it on their web sight anymore.
Some people here may have one for trade or shipping I gave a lot away maybe someone has some babies !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Mine looks like it is suckering, putting out small extra crowns around the main crown... Will it also put out stolons like an Episcia does? Or do I propagate it by putting down a leaf or splitting off a sucker?

The extra crown/sucker on mine was pretty good sized when I received it so I separated it and it's growing like a weed now! Some of my other Chiritas are growing those tiny little suckers, so I'm quite excited to see if they grow up to be as big as that first one did. Allison said you can grow them by leaf just like an AV, too, but I haven't tried that yet.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Good to know -- thanks!

I got my Hisako from Bluebird's also. I just looked at their website and they don't have it (not on their site at the moment) but they do have some new ones. I am excited about that and maybe I can take a trip over there some time next week.

I also wanted to add that Bluebird's sometimes has a lot more in stock than you see on their website. I've been there many times and seen things that are not listed on the site. So if you are looking for something in particular, just give them a call and see if they have it.

Here are some new photos of my Hisako. I was so excited to get up this morning and find that one of her flowers had opened up. She is such a beauty. This one is of the whole plant.

Beautiful plant and what beautiful pictures you took. You certainly captured the beauty of the blooms.

Silver Spring, MD

Just found this. The Hisako is beautiful. I was given a start at the last BAV Meeting I attended. How long befor it will bloom? Do it bloom just once each year?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

MIne as in picture Sep 25, 2006
8:55 AM started blooming young ! They bloom year round. The flowers take long to form but last a long time.
They like it dry, can take cool to 40 dgree weather , they like small tight pots they are use to growing in-between cracks of rocks on the mountains. Once a year re-pot fine and will be happy if you don't re-pot every 2-3 years ! by a start do you mean a smal plant ?

Here's my Chirita sinensis 'Hisako'. The bloom was fading, and I knocked it off the bloom stalk, darn it! I've left it on in case it got pollinated and will form a pod. Another bloom stalk is forming, though, so I'll have bloom pictures soon!

Wow Amy it's really grown ! Did you only get on bloom ? Mine open with one, then 2,3, and have had up to 20 c0me threw on one bloom stalk ! It was so heavy I cut it off and enjoyed the big bouqet in a vase a couple weeks ! It's amazing plant my most favorite Chirita :))

It has another teeeeeny tiny little bud on that stalk, so maybe that will grow and open up! I'm sure hoping it does. If not, maybe the second stalk will be covered with blooms!
