Stem Bulblets

Arcata, CA(Zone 9b)

A few weeks ago, I was checking the yard a found that an animal dug up one of my lilies. I notices that it had several stem bulblets. I planted them in potting soil in a small container. A few of them came up. My question is: When I pot them up separately do I add bonemeal to help the bulb develop or do I wait a period? Second question, after reading the forum, I decided to try and grow a few from scales. I noticed a few of them developing white bulbils on the bottom of the scales. How long do I wait until repotting them and do I use bonemeal when I repot?
Thanks

Let the bulblets grow grow grow on the scale. When I eventually pot them up I leave the scale attached. Have no idea your zone - seaside/mtn/dry/wet/hot/cold so cant give you more ideas.

no snow, but a lot of rain. "its where the Redwood trees grow". What type of fertilizer if any do you use and when?
Thanks

I found some stem bulbils on one of my lilies, and set them in a thin layer of compost/seedling mix and covered them with a plastic bag. They are sprouting like mad now. I had no idea if they would sprout and now I just want to know how to keep them alive over winter!

I use half strength miracle grow on seedlings and scales.

If your babies have sprouted well Greenjay, why not put them pots and all, into the ground for the winter. Make sure that the lips of the pots are totally covered by soil. Then maybe mulch .
I'm busily potting up unsprouted bulblets at the moment and will bury the pots till they bloom in a couple of years.

I will try that. Would they be any good indoors?

Hi folks,
I am wondering the same thing. Is it possible to keep bulbils or bulbs growing over winter, indoors? What happens if you keep a grow light on a plant that is use to waning and waxing light? Do these need some type of cold treatment like seeds? I like to experiment :*)
