Good or bad? I have them all over, especially on my cleome.
CLOSED: Beetle Id
It's not a beetle, but it is a true bug, the Harlequin bug. It's Latin name is Murgantia histrionica

I guess you have to decide whether it's good or bad...they can be a pest, damaging crops. That's an excellent picture!
Thanks PA, looks like it's a pest to me!!
Oh, my! I had those things - thousands of them - in my garden a year ago and they are definitely not good. They suck the life right out of whatever they're after, leaving behind only dessicated, brown foliage. In one place it was hibiscus, in another they were all over the cleome, as with yours. The bugs look very different in about 4 different stages, but they all hang out together at the same time so you'll know what they are. I was reduced to using Malathion, which worked and they didn't come back, so far. Good luck getting rid of them.
