CLOSED: Anybody know what kind of moth this is?

I thought it was from the hornworm I picked off of my one and lonely tomato plant, but he didnt look like the hawk moth that was in the files...
He was very beautiful and patient with me as I saw him fly into the kangaroo fern but then had to hunt to find him as he had all but disappeared. He was very beautiful. About 2&1/2 inches wide and the same in length.

Thank you so much! That has to be it. I was probably underestimating his size, he was like a little hummingbird as he flew by me. He really was beautiful...

Thanks Donna. :) I got lucky with this one, usually what I want to photograph flies (or creeps or crawls or burrows) away! I'm learning to keep my camera right outside with me. "Gaudy Sphinx" is right on, he's aptly named, he really held still!
