We've all seen how Mike's famous blue truck gets around. Do you suppose it had a secret liaison with this beauty and started this litter of offspring?
Guy S.
Gardening with cars!
Guy:
How'd you get that picture of the orange car? That's my friend's creation at Shady Hill Gardens! It's a block from my house.
That's when I took the pic, on my way home from your place last time. He did a great job with it!
Guy S.
What does he do with it during the winter? It must look awful then.
Man, and I thought the VW van was the best vehicle on plantet earth.
Looks like I have some considering to do...
Dax
Still the sexiest vehicle on earth though, or me (notice the barefeet - that's how I drive and also how I garden)??
Enjoy my joke - Northern Cali - summer of 2000 as we were eating medicinal plants on our way to the Redwoods.
"PEACE"! And for you cops out there. STOP pulling me over for a 4" crack in the windshield. Ya punks!
(hee hee hee - all the way home!)
My old blue truck does a great job of moving plants in flats to 25 gallon pots. When I got it there was grass growing in the sides of the bed and when I got it home a complete bug collection inside the windshield. Yesterday, while trying to ID a mini-Fuchsia, I came across this nursery site with, oh-wait, my truck on the front page! It looks like a 57 but almost identical http://www.plantsafari.com. So, I sent them my resume - why not. Because I have had trouble finding space for my greenhouse several people suggested I build one for the back of my truck, and believe me, I've seriously considered it.
I was going to upload a cool VW I want but I can't seem to do uploads right now.
Well, it is great to see what Conifers looks like.
Gardening with cars?? Must be about 2,000 of them in yards in New Orleans with all sorts of plants growing out of them. The sweet potato vine grows the best in the back seat but the sunflowers grew best in the front. I'll have to get some photos to show.
This is too funny! I had to email that truck photo to my mom to ask her (she's been a gardener all her life) if she'd ever in her 64 years on this planet, ever seen anything like that!
She said "Nope!" - (what a lame answer).
Looking forward to your photos liveoaklady. I like this thread.
Dax
What a waste of a VW :-( I love the flowers, but they could have used a ford, chevy or anything else. Love my garden, but love my VW more.
It was a junker ghia_girl, no engine, no rear axle, no interior--perfect for its new home.
Ghia knows what's up. VW's are greenhouses on wheels for house plants.
Now if I could find some way to relate to the wonderful men and women of our law enforcement... The pOlice in North Dakota just couldn't understand why we'd have plants hanging everywhere inside a car. Then again we were coming from the west coast and surely we were criminals.
I must have sat in that squad car for fifteen minutes answering one stupid question after another while the entire time these 'law enforcement officers' asked one ridiculous question after another. All while motorcycle after motorcycle had passed us by for hours on end at extreme speeds as we and they were right in the forefront for the start of Sturgis.
'Freedom' - yah right. A 4" crack in our windshield being the cause for the stop. Now put a 'black' man in our vehicle and you all know he's going down for something with two white cops.
What a joke of a country we live in. A man changes with the times, yah right.
I know - rant rave, rant rave - but that's the oppresion we all STILL face.
Better get a truck, I'm bored again. I must like talking to myself, because I'm sure I've certainly bored you all. Add some dreadlocks, and now I'm on the same level as the man of color.
Peace, it looks like I need another break, besides I have to get my house ready for an appraisal as I found a real nice piece of land. I'll head outside and work this annimocity out of my system.
In the meantime, here's an email I received the other day, maybe some of you will enjoy:
(Take care)
Dax
This is a different way of looking at people.
Colored Folks
This was written by a black guy in Texas and is so funny. What a
great sense of humor and creativity!
when I born, I black,
when I grow up, I black,
when I go in sun, I black,
when I cold, I black,
when I scared, I black,
when I sick, I black,
and when I die, I still black.
You white folks....
when you born, you pink,
when you grow up, you white,
when you go in sun, you red,
when you cold, you blue,
when you scared, you yellow,
when you sick, you green,
when you bruised, you purple,
and when you die, you gray.
So who you callin' colored folks ?
Kevin_5 - however, type 3's are hard to find. I guess it is better than the junk yard, where it would be lonely. And a good bus is even harder to find.
Dax - there is just a stereotype about people and their VW. That's why if you love it, and enjoy driving it. You should get the window fixed! not for the police, but for you. So you can see all the wonderful places(trees, flower, and lakes) your bus will take you.
Guy – Sorry, I'll get off the VW box. Thanks for sharing.
A famous poem. I've seen some fun illustrations alongside.
I'm taking a break I think for a while.
Thanks Ghia, Guy, Kenton, Kevin, all of you.
I will of course report back when I get news about the Ginkgo's I grafted.
I agree, thanks Guy! This was a fun one. Sorry for myself getting off track.
That's why I need a break. Things just bother me.
Take care you all,
Dax
Here's a lovely little VW that I am persuing. All it needs is some long bug antennas, 2 little wings like a Shasta trailer and I can go do my lunar landing plant expeditions in the Mexican desert. It's a 48 Weewind Airstream mounted on a 59 VW Kombibus. I haven't been able to track this one down but for plant hunting it looks to be perfect for me.
Looks to me like Dax has added another pic for "The Calendar"!
Guy S.
Here's a thought, not a pic for any calendar - no stereotyping.
I refuse to live up to any preconceived views and expressions for my own 'love of cars.'
My hats off to the women and men who honesly are just as stereotyped and treated unfairly as me (or you) out there. I've always said that if you have to explain what freedom really is to someone, then your talking to someone with preconceived notions (whether true or false) and that the brainwashing has already taken effect and is almost irreversible. However, contrary to the stigma 'that an old dog can't learn a new trick' is also a farce. I can prove it. My dog has been allowed freedom in every aspect since he first came into my home.
Remember an unassuming man is without time. Maybe the best compliment a human being could receive is to let them know they are unassuming. Timing has led me to come back to this thread as I shouldn't sit here in my home and not share my opinions as to why our system of government is calling for a need of change. This email/link I received just moments ago. Listen to what this man has to say. The circle of insanity and lack of freedom is nothing but a mirage in our country. As my doctors have said, my friends, my father, - they've at times said to me, "goooooooood luck buddy"! (as they casually pat me on the back as I leave their presence), And should you want to meet a wonderful human being, a person who never in his lifetime told a child a lie, his name would be A.S. Neill. Read his book, it might change how you view the education of America or for that matter, other education systems that are more 'military-like' and full of lies, and without freedom - the necessity every child, adolescent, and adult deserves. I now step off my soapbox.
Have a simple day gentlemen.
Regards,
Dax

Actually, I leave the soapbox for the next person to step onto. 'Summerhill' is the name of his book.
I'll see you all after I get my system 'temporarily' flushed...
It's time for me to hit the Plant Files.
Take care and live life to the fullest - 'if you can'.
I now wish you "good luck"
Dax
Enterprise - isn't that a rental company? I prefer the airstream/VW combo. I'm just so happy I stuck with getting a truck as it's essential for getting soil, rocks, plants, dumping plant debris, etc.
Sorry again, but I'm sort of kind of back I think.
I do some goofy stuff...
Dax
