Just a little 'enabling' for BuggyCrazy lily lovers...

FYI Just read on another thread that Buggycrazy was offering a number of interesting fall 'specials' and thought I would pass it along--

I ordered a few pardiliniums and other species lilies and more Eremurus, hoping they would be the fine, fat bulbs everyone raves about when they order from BC! (This is my first order from BC but I hope not my last!)

Buggy Crazy has been a favorite find of mine this year, thanks to Pard and her wonderful photo of L. henryi citrinum . This forum has been good for her business :0) Lisa is also very prompt in answering her e-mails and is very well informed. I, too, am hoping her bulbs are what everybody says they are. Personally, I think we will be pleased, tabasco. Smaller family owned businesses have a lot more at stake pertaining to honesty and customer service; their livelihood depends on it. I try to buy from them as often as possible.

I ordered a couple pardalinums from her last year and "one" bulb consisted of: a bulb with a stolon coming off of it and another bulb at the end of the stolon. Now, I can't say she is digging them like that this year and the sale description says one bulb, but that is what I got last year! And since I ordered 2 bulbs I essentially got 4 and hence 4 stalks (all of which I set seed on of course!)

I just ordered from her:

stargazer (can't have enough of these, and for 2.00 ???)
Genteel lady
pink paradise
Sonora

I am thinking about adding to the order.

I emailed her about ordering, and she promptly and politely answered all of my questions. I can't wait to get these bulbs.

Can anyone tell me what lilys from Buggycrazy are "must haves"?

I'm feeling the need to increase my order....

Asiatic "Stunning"! Huge blooms with a picotee edge. One of their introductions I believe. Oriental "Late Pink", a very sturdy stem and outfacing rubrum like blooms. I think it is a rubrum hybrid, it had claws (see thread "the Dawning of...."). They have a good price for speciosum rubrums 10/$15. I believe they are seed grown as the ones I purchased last year showed a lot of variation in intensity of color and spotting, very nice. You can ask her about it if you want.

If you have problems with orientals burning in the hot summer sun pay attention to her descriptions as she notes their sun tolerance and resistance to burn.

I haven't finished my order yet, my cart is full of stuff. I am waiting for the regional society bulb sale to see what I want from that and I don't have a lot of room so I will be juggling my order around for sure.

Some people like the great big tall OTs like Kong and Godzilla but I personally don't care for them. Whatever you decide rest assured the bulbs are the highest quality and usually dug when you order them, hard to beat that!

After seeing Pard's Late Pink, that's one that I'm looking at. Among others, last year I got Summer Night. The pics don't do it justice ~ I literally dropped my jaw when I saw it in the garden this year.

Pard - thanks for all this great info. I love Stunning. And I was looking at late pink when I was placing my order. I'll have to go look again.
Pard, how many lilys do you grow?

Moby - I'm going to look at Summer night thank you for the suggestion.

I really don't grow that many lilies compared to some others here and I haven't counted them either. Maybe I should do that! More and more I am growing from seed and that can produce a lot of lilies real fast!

Lindenhurst, NY

Parda - I would be curious to find out how many blooming size plants you have.

OK, I ordered more.

Who wants to know what I ordered :-) ??

Does anyone have this problem that i have? When I am unhappy with my husband or work or life in general and feeling kind of down, my budget and will power to not spend more money just disappear. I guess I'm trying to make myself feel better...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Is that a problem?? ;) As a kid, I had heard from my Mom about keeping a little "mad money" ~ now I understand it.

What did you order? So far, I've only ordered Brooke, and Tramp for my naughty garden. I've been trying to post a pic of Summer Night but DG wouldn't let me. Here it is ~

okay maureen, what did you order?? Do tell....
Mad money, happy money, call it what you will, but isn't it worth it, seeing those beauties come summer. Me? I have been contemplating "grounding myself" from Buggy Crazy's website.

Lindenhurst, NY

Moby - yes, I think I may call it Mad Money. :-)
I have to go look up brooke and tramp. (A naughty garden? Never head of that before ;-) And that summer night pic of yours is nicer than the pics on the website. They don't give a very good write up on their site of summer night - almost like they don't want to sell it?? Or is it just me?

Magnolialover -- ok here goes,
first I ordered:
Genteel lady
stargazer
pink paradise
and sonora
today I added:
unnamed
late pink (Thanks Parda)
el dorado
more stargazers (can anyone have too many of these? I can't)
rubrum
mimosa
rosario
stunning (thanks again Parda ;-)

Anyone have any comments on these?? Or others I must get?

Thanks
Maureen

LOL yes, of course, everybody uses shopping as an antidepressant! And for me it works great until the bill comes! (-;

I ordered some lilies for shady areas. Species

I hope they work out OK. I think somebody said once they are a little bit finicky and I think maybe I will try them in pots as she suggests.

Anyway, I just had to try BuggyCrazy. Everybody says so many wonderful things about her lilies!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

OK Maureen, I *tried* to count how many blooming stalks I had this year and kept loosing count. But I would guess between 150 and 200. Maybe a third grown from seed. This doesn't mean different varieties because sometimes I buy more than 1 bulb of a kind. Then many increase from division. Nice thing about lilies is they don't take up much room and can fit in here, there and everywhere!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

The smallest bulb I got from her was normal size from anyone else.

To be honest, I'm really glad that she's charging more for her monster-size bulbs. For those of you that didn't see this Rosario bulb last year, I paid 4 bucks for it which was criminal.

DO NOT expect your bulbs to look like this! (unless perhaps you have paid for a supersize bulb) BTW ~ my hand, from the base of the palm to the tips of my fingers, is 7 inches.

Moby, now that is one amazingly huge bulb. The biggest bulbs I have ever gotten have been from B&D Lilies. I was a little disappointed in the Lily Garden order, my first, from last Spring. The bulbs were small, but did all bloom this year. Also, they sent more bulbs than I ordered of each variety, perhaps due to the size issue. So I will still order, as there are so many unique varieties there. The other thing is that they came the same day as B&D Lilies, so it was quite a comparison!
Can't wait for Buggy's to arrive.
Pard, what a blooming place you must have! Sounds nice.
Maureen, we think alike in lily ordering.
Sonora looks similar to My Precious. It must have a similar breedig history, at least by the picture anyway.

Now that's a monster bulb! And only $4!

I did notice BC was asking more for her super-sized bulbs. I also noticed in her introduction letter BC mentioned that they have had irrigation problems and water shortages at her farm so her bulbs will not be so large this year, so I hope everyone is not overtaken by disappointment if normal sized bulbs appear in the mailbox.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

These L.henryii from buggycrazy were just $3 each this spring.

gem--those are magnificent! Do you have a pic of your Eremurus 'cleopatras' from BC ?

Just wondering how they compared to mine from B & B and VanEngelen's...just nosey...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Shut up - all of you. Have just spent the family fortune with Buggycrazy. Ah me. One addiction should be enough. When you cannot live without lilies/iris AND hostas, not to mention heucheras and ......

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

inanda...you've gone "buggy crazy" too, I see. Maybe her business name is named after a psychiatric illness, pertaining to lily madness. :0)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Tabasco for the mention about the sale going on at Buggycrazy. Of course I ordered a bunch. July Mint, Gold Ray, Firestar, Champagne, Rosy wonder , Ryanne, Tropical dream, Star burst, Cheerful, Venture, Aubande, El Flame, Loreto, Pyc, Zeus, Dwarf red spot, Dwarf Gold Band, Godzilla. I thought she had a great variety available and her information is SO complete. I will download it right into my journal for future reference. Patti

I am really enjoying all this feedback and info on buggycrazy. I can't wait to get bulbs!!!!

Maureen

I love the pics of the bulbs too -- feast for the eyes :-)
