What do you do to help prevent birds from hitting windows?

No, they don't. No time to discuss why right now. Must get off the computer.

Not necessarily by comparison to other threats because these species directly compete almost exclusively with cavity nesters in the avian mortality arena. Granted, the toll to cavity nesters is high particularly in areas where their numbers are out of control but no where near as high as other threats that are not as target specific such as windows.

Just read this thread and the part about the guy's house burning down. We live in the miiddle of the woods and the nearest fire dept. is 5 miles away. By the time they got to our place, it would be ashes. And it is all volunteers. Any hoo, my point is we will be getting extra keys for our truck and car this wk. and making up a package with a extra credit card, money and ID in it. Going to hide it in my greenhouse which is about 100' from the house. We were in a flood in 81 at Pt. Mugu, CA navy housing. Learned our lesson there. When the water started rising my hus. told me to put his underwear in a plastic bag along with uniforms and shoes. He was doing other things. I put in all his undershirts and not a pair of undershorts. When we finally got to higher ground and he wanted to change into dry clothes, he was underdrawerless. I would not go out of a room and leave a candle burning. It is just to dangerous. I don't use candles anyway unless the elec. is off and then mostly use oil lamps. When I want my house to smell fresh I open windows and doors. Of course, we live in the middle of 32 acres of woods, with only one way in and out of our place (except thru the woods) so don't worry about some jerk opening our door and walking in. LIZ

Yes, I can't imagine losing an entire home whether it be to fire or flood. Sickening. He lost his cats in that fire too. He tried to get them out and couldn't.
