Good morning to one and all.
Hope you all had a refreshing sleep and only the sweetest dreams.
Here's where we were yesterday. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/650172/
Coffee and .... for Wednesday, September 13th
Meant to tell you all, I have the biggest pot of Wandering Jew on my front porch. I will be taking cuttings of it and over wintering it. If anybody is interested in some cuttings, just d-mail me and let me know. It has been a good eye catching plant near my front door.
Morning everyone to the sixth day in a row of clouds, rain, cold, and gloom. They keep saying 'one more day of it'- and they say the same thing every day!! yuck...
Carat- was it you who wanted datura seeds? I have a ton - had double purple, single purple, single white and a double white. I haven't collected seed for 2006, but I'm sure I'll have enough to share!! I only started the double white and double purple last spring, the rest reseed for me. Now if any one has a yellow, I'd love it!!!
ME -hot in bed!! LOL LOL, I had DH read that and he about burst laughing....that certainly was a typo!! Let me rephrase that. I still am having power surges and they most often happen at night...I seldom need any covers.
ves, our hummers have bamboosed. Now I need to get the feeders down and clean them good and store them away for another year.
Hope that Ginger Peach stuff sounds lucious..and you know how I like my ice cream!!
Well, time for some breakfast, then off to the dreaded huff/puff. I'm moving in slow motion today....cardio sounds dreadful...
Good morning all, cloudy day for the first time in quite a while
Sarv, I had the first big laugh this morning, you are so funny,"hot in bed" does mena more then one thing, lol lol
Idon't think I know that plant Bonne,
Good morning - where is everyone? Almost 8:30 here as I allowed myself to sleep in. Don't know how to go to bed when DH is away and doesn't shame me into going to bed at a resonable hour.
Woke up remembering that I promised an update for the Food Cupboard web site. Better do that this morning before I go in to volunteer. It's cold and rainy here; so I won't be working in the garden. Heard on the morning news that the latest tropical storm (forget which name) to make it up north is lashing Newfoundland. Hope it moves quickly because my house guests of last week are now in New Brunswick, going to Nova Scotia today and due to take the ferry to Newfoundland tomorrow. And once there, they have about an 8 hour drive to St. John's which is on the east side.
Well, off to breakfast. BBL.
Ann
Hi there, dark and cool here, it's going to be a yucky fall day. I will roast tomatoes. I have another counter full, also a shopping bag of beans to process.
I have enjoyed all the stories of found things, like gangster guns (!) and sarv, when they find the burner, they'll be talking at your funeral about the side of you they never suspected!! And the grass and seeds in pockets, etc. Too funny.
I don't have much computer time-
Maria-I wish your breathing would get better! It takes such a long time to get over pneumonia. I had it when kids were little and I think it was 6 mo. before I was completely over it.
Twyla, shocking to hear about your niece too, what is it with these kids?? So scary. I'm grateful every day mine come home.....even when they're obnoxious.
I hope everyone else is staying healthy and reasonably happy even with the yucky weather some of us are having, and I sure hope the smoke and fires stay aay from Mary and whoever else is threatened with that. I hope I get a chance to check in later
~~~~~~~~~to all, Have a Great Day.
I have an ortho appt this am - remember the knee I crashed on at IA RU '04? I'm tired of it being a pest so finally going to do something abt it.
No update yet on the 15 yr. old. (Luke) No funeral details yet either. I expect I'll hear something by this evening.
~~~~~have a good day all! Laura
Have read the rest of yesterdays thread, Geez I didn't have any plans today and now after reading all the posts think I'll just laz around in my jammies today and REST. Are you sure none of you are talking with DH????????
Kooger I am so sorry to hear about your cousins boy. It is so hard to explain the loss of a child can do to a parent. I've lost 2 myself 12 yo and aklmost 3 months old. A parent should never have to out live a child. Thats not the natural order of things, People used to say to me I can't imagine what you must be going through and my first reaction was Why would you want to?????? thoughts and prayers are with you and your family..
later, Cherie
Well, I slept in a bit, and now feel that I am running behind. Today is grocery/errand day. It is overcast, and they are speaking of more rain today. Sure hope my umbrella knows what it's function is and cooperates.
Well I will check in when I get home. Have a good day.
Today it's rain, rain, rain. Guess not much will get accomplished, and my DB will have to rise his bike in the rain 35 miles to the shop to get his new footrests installed this afternoon. We planned shrimp on the grill and the grill is in the barn, plus steamed snow crab for supper so unless the rain lets up, that may not happen today.
The twin weeping willow to the one that fell last week has split up through it's trunk at the base. I guess it will fall soon, and fall right across the creek. Have no idea how I'll get that one cleaned up! It surely will catch all the debris that comes down the creek in a heavy rain and I'll have an even bigger mess.
All the stories about "found items" are too funny!
Laura, I fell asleep last night before I remembered I said I'd call you. Sorry. I'll try later, after your ortho appt.
I'll probably be here a lot today since I cannot do much else!
BBL, ~~~~~ to all!
Yeah, all soggy and gray here too this morning. Have managed to get dressed but that's not a lot of progress. Oh, also got the stickies off the kitchen floor after my feet stuck to it this morning. I thought I got all the jam up, but not so.
My sweet 'taters didn't grow so well this year. I had saved some tubers from last year, and they must have cross bred because they didn't come up purple or chartreuse, they are kind of rusty brown and not at all pretty.
They are in the shot of the front in the window box. Giving up on hanging baskets too, they did so poorly in the heat this year. It's not as though I don't have plenty of color so it's not a big sacrifice.
I need to make some breakfast, and see if I can find something interesting enough to keep me moving. Engine just doesn't want to turn over this morning.....
Sheila
Sheila - I didn't know you could save them from year to year - I've just seen them sold as annuals for hanging baskets. Do they all have tubers that might be saved?
Well folks, the update to the Food Cupboard web site is done and uploaded though there are some gaps in the French links page because they neglected to give me the translation. Will have to get that corrected. Now gotta go get dressed and ready to go in there to volunteer.
I've been giving successor the slip a bit in the last couple days because he's been asking all sorts of questions about the (major, city) grant application. I'm happy to help, but he wasn't there last Wednesday, having gone home to, supposedly, work on the application where it was quiet. (I can appreciate that. It's next to impossible to work on something like that when the program is open.) But he's down to the wire with it. I have promised to look it over when I go in today. But having done it once, he might appreciate some of the background chores that if kept up during the season will make doing this application easier. (particularly financial spreadsheets to allow him to compare where we are at grant time to where we were at the same time last year and then make projections to the end of the year based on what happened last year - and also projections for all of next year). Sounds complicated and it is. And the city manages to change a little something each year so that you can't just copy everything from the year before.

Back from the h/p - friend I go with had to leave early, so we skipped the elliptical bike and some other things. That's fine with me- seemed like a Monday anyway and I am always fog brained on Mondays!!
I'm doing a Bunko night with the workout girls. One of them has cancer and it is a $$ for her. I've never played before, but they assure me it is easy. Any of you played it?
Sounds like it is rainy everywhere!!! Just a fine, but heavy misty stuff here, but just so heavy that you can't go outside. So here I am inside for another day. I should do something constructive with the rest of my day. Maybe I"ll attack a closet, but then again maybe I will just finish up a book I started.
Vi = sweet potato vines do make tubers just like the real sweet potatoes. I've tried saving the tubers, but they rotted, but have saved cuttings for years. They get kinda scraggley looking, but bounce back come springtime. Haven't bought any for years.
Well, time to hit the shower- I smell ripe..
Back again. Looks like my DB and I will leave early tomorrow morning, drive 5 hours to my storage unit, load a few needed things, and drive home. It will be LOOOOONG day for me but glad to have help.
Rain has slowed here to a mist so we're going to try and get the window put back in the root cellar, this time with hinges for summer ventilation rather than nailing it shut. On our way back tomorrow, we'll stop at the wholesale farmer's market and get some sweet potatoes for me to store for winter, and maybe even some acorn squash. I also hope for enough King Luscious apples for a pie or two.
Sarv I've tried saving the plants when they were smaller but they haven't lived. Do you save cuttings in water?
It is sunny here today and suppose to get close to 80. Our first sunshine in almost a week. We had very little rain to go with it.
ViAnn do you get a lot of people at the food Pantry? The one in Chippewa Falls Sees a lot of people the end of the month.Sometimes they have hardly any food. I try to spend money in the thrift store to help out. Plus donate items.
Darius sorry the weather for your DB's visit isn't nice. Will he be staying longer so he can still help out on some of that stuff? I've never had grilled shrimp. but I bet it is delicious.
dmc i've got tomatoes and beans to do also. But the wild outdoors is calling me. Come out and redo the block steps--echo echo
Back. Went upstairs and made a fried egg and cheese sandwich w/home-grown sliced of tomato that DB brought over on the weekend. Tasted pretty good. Walked outside to see whats what. Too gloomy out there. I need sun!!!!
I didn't know the sweet potato vine had tubers either. Hmmmmm I wonder if I can save a couple. Sheila is there a certain way they must be stored???? I just might have to try I guess.
I'm trying real hard to keep my mood and attitude from matching the weather ........ went in and tried to put jeans on.........still hurts:( I know I'm pushing it. When DS#2 had his out 3 years ago it was during christmas break at school. He got out of the hospital on Friday and went back to school that tues. just like everybody else. I figured if a kid can bounce back so can I. I just miss my jeans. Okay I'll stop whining.
Sarv I've never heard of Bunko. Is it a card game? or something else.?
Well DD#1 brought over a new book by Nora Roberts so guess I'll go get lost in Morrigans Cross for awhile. BBL Cherie
Grrrrrrr... dentist just called with a cancellation slot available tomorrow when I will be gone to NC with my brother. Guess I can stick it out 4 more days to my scheduled appointment next Monday.
WHY does Life get in the way of Life?
Two more hours of work and I can't sit still. Flight leaves at 6:30 tomorrow morning from Philly. Tonight SIL and I are staying at one of the hotels next to the airport so that we can park our cars their for free while we are gone. Last time I flew and left my car in the parking garage, it was $75 for 4 days. Doesn't cost much more to just stay the night at a nearby hotel and get free parking.
Had a chat with Casey last night. Looks like we might be getting together on Saturday. Can't wait!
Kooger - Sooo sorry about all you have had to deal with lately.
Sarv - You are tooo funny! Bet you will reread everything you post now.
Darius - Hope you have a good visit with DB.
CeCe - Hope you keep feeling better, but do take it easy.
Back to work. Probably won't check in until next week again.
Oh gosh, bunco....I have not heard of that for years..many, MANY years ago I remember my parents (and the rest of the adults in my very small home town) used to get together for bunco parties...I dont know how to play it but it has something to do with dice and changing of partners, I think. I know they used to love those parties.. I think you will have a good time..
Kris
Hi,
Just popping in for a minute since I realized I've been remiss in providing my share of cyber goodies. Here's the Summer squash pie I made the night before last. (Actually, this picture was taken while it was still too hot to slice. DH was hovering over it asking "Is it ready yet?" There's considerably less of it now.)
Gosh, I've had a busy day today. got up and started battling the laundry monster first thing. got out the dreaded vacuum and yes I've even managed to do a bit of that task too. Had a friend call while I was eating who was blue and needed some much needed phone hugs and missed out on my chat with Defoe today so am trying to catch up a bit on DG.
Defoe, so sorry I missed your call!
Darius, I'll take some of the seafood supper when it's done. Hope you survive until Monday's apt.
Suzie ... lucky dog! Give Casy an extra hug for me.
McCool, I'll take a slice of that pie. :-)
Okay ... am ~ing to everyone else.
That looks delicious, but I'll have to save my slice for later cuz I just finished one of the two remaining peaches. There were two squirrels on the deck this morning and the finches and wrens were flinging seed around like crazed wedding guests, and poor Sammi and Olivia couldn't get out there to join the party! Later I saw a fat squirrel hanging upside down off the bird feeder, struggling to get himself upright to get at the seeds. Nothin' but fun!
Sarv's hot remark went right past me...until you starting commenting about it. By the time I figured it out, it was too late to ask for tips.
Maria, are you running all over your house with the Dyson picking up dog hair? It's kind of appalling to see how much it picks up when you think you've been doing a good job of cleaning. I never think I do that good a job. I'm tired of doing it long before it reaches any point considered very clean. Life's too short to chase dust bunnies.
Kooger, I hope you don't have any more sad family news for a while. Are you still planning to visit your DS in October?
I just put my tubers from the SPV in a box with straw. Some dried up over winter but several were fine. I don't consider it much of a success since the cross pollination ruined the color. Maybe I'll save a slip off the chartreuse one in front, and let it overwinter in the dinette. I'm running out of places to hang things.
Cece, I just took three pairs of jeans to a place in Mukwonago to have the waist taken in. Every place else fits, and I considered doing it myself but it would not have ended well. So, for what I paid for one, I can get three pairs altered to fit, and they won't look like a spastic idiot tried to do them. One place I called quoted me $18 a pair. hahahaha as if!!!
Don't know anything about Bunko, don't know many card or dice games at all but I'm sure they will show you what to do, and gracefully relieve you of your cash, all in a good cause. Have fun!
~~~~~~~~ as I go to haul out the Dyson and attack my fuzzy cat haired carpets.
Sheila
Ok, what is a summer squash pie? Is that like pumpkin? I'll take a piece even if I don't know what it is - looks tempting. I'm standing in line right behind your DH!
Rain finally stopped and I wandered out in the garden and snapped some pics of dahlias that opened and picked a bunch of them. Have a nice bouquet of multi colored ones.
Oh Darius, when it rains it pours in your life. Oh well, at least your dental appt is right around the corner - enjoy your trip with your bro. Haven't heard much about Brent - is he still in the picture?
suz- have fun!! I love staying at motels!!
DH is watching the stock market and it is up - he's in a happy mood then....
McCool - what do you use in the SUMMER SQUASH pie? I've heard of winter squash being substituted for pumpkin, but not summer squash and I'm intrigued. It sure looks good.
ves522 - the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard (http://www.gefc.ca) gets about 500 families a month and over the course of a year gives out food for the equivalent of 24,000 people or at least it did the last few years. A new program opened up recently that takes part of the area we served; so there might be a slight reduction in numbers this year. We give a 4-day supply of food when people come in and in some cases they are allowed to come more than once a month. We often see people at the beginning of the month because there is a Canadian Child tax benefit (CTB) which was raised a few years ago. But for families on assistance, the province claws it back from their assistance cheques; so we have people at the beginning of the month whose cheque does not even cover their rent. The CTB cheques come out about the 20th of the month and we usually see a significant reduction in demand at that time.
Sarv - if you can make cuttings, I may try a few now. I find if I wait too close to frost, they don't work as well. If you really have spare Datura seeds, I'd be interested in trying a few.
Cherie - don't blame you for being impatient. But I bet the jeans fit better next week.
suzieq2761 - somehow I missed where you are going. Hope you have good flights.
Well, I'm off to listen to new releases of handbell music on the Internet. Need to order some music for my group. And I have to be back at the Food Cupboard for a meeting at 5. We have someone coming in to help us transfer the Data base from an old DOS program to Access. Since I'm the one who knows the system the best, I need to be there to explain what we need.
BBL
Ann
I'm just puttering... DB left to do his bike thing about 1 pm. I've cleaned the kitchen, put away the pumpkin I canned 2 days ago after finally washing and drying the jars, got almost a full load of laundry ready to do but may wait until we get back from NC so I can hang it out on the line to dry.
The food grade plastic 6 gallon jugs my sister ordered for fermenting grapes came today and I have assembled 2 of them with the spigots and airlocks, 2 more to go. I measured the brix from 2 grapes on the side of the barn, just 12º Brix, need to be 22º. Cannot do it tomorrow but Friday I will measure the ones in the most sun and see if they are ready to be picked.
Bobby and I did get the window installed in the root cellar, but I had to get out the power planer to get it to fit, and then we had to move the stops.
That pie loks yummy, McCool yes just like Ann asked , are you using the yellow summer squash ? never made one with it, I would think it might be a bit watery if it is the squash I am thinking of???
tomorrow night dd and sil are comimng for dinner, I made beef bourguignon today, it always tastes better the next day, found nice straberies and rhubarb in thew market, planning to make a pie
Now I am tired , seems I can't do anything without having to stop and rest.
Have not used the Dyson yet Sheila, SIL vaccums for me right now till I feel the way I did before getting sick, hope that will be soon, it does a perfect job, am very happy with it, thanks for telling me about it.
Darius, you seem to have one problem after another, I think it is time to just sit back and just enjoy life.
Sarv a beautiful dahlia, I have one too that looks as if it needs combing, lol
Hi casey, cece Elaine, Bonnie and dgf and everybody I am ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~too
Hello everyone. Sarv, beautiful shaggy dahlia. Since you don't know the name you could just call it Bad Hair Day. My dahlias didn't do very well this year, I think I waited too long to plant them, and then one day Breezy discovered that he could reach one of them. Apparently it had a tough stem and it just popped right out of the ground. He didn't care for the taste so spit it out and didn't even lift it over the fence. In the future they won't get planted where he can reach them, but they did look nice next to the rail fence. Oh, just had an idea to remedy that. The fence has high and low sections, plant them next to the high ones. Well, duh!! It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
The deer got my grapes. Darn, I have to do something about that because my garden has become an annual smorgasbord. My outside dog has become so old and deaf that he doesn't even hear them anymore and I think I need to petition hubby to build me a good fence.
I spent the morning in town. First I took my daughter in law a plant that a neighbor had given me for her, then had an appointment to get the car serviced at 9am so I skipped breakfast here and went to a nearby cafe and had their breakfast special, then walked back to the garage and sat in their waiting room reading until almost 11. They appologized for being so slow today. Next stop was the Salvation Army thrift store where I bought one of those round, shallow plastic planters that you often see planted with all kinds of petunias and things and called a color bowl. 38cents, half price today. And a blouse for $2.50, it was 25% off. Then I went to the grocery and without my list still managed to spend about $40.
McCool, nice looking pie. Did it taste as good as it looks?
I got a call from my neighbor who lost the kitty, she has a new one she says is a miniature Neut. Her approach to grieving for a lost pet is to get another one right away. I would guess she went to the no kill shelter for it, that is where she got the one she just lost. They give a certificate for a reduction on the price of spay and neuter operations. I have to go see the new arrival, then get busy on my flower beds again. Back later when I run out of energy or daylight or both.
Oh we have a fertile family- just received a call that youngest son is going to be a daddy!! Their first...Now I have one due on Feb 15 and one on April 16. I'll be a busy grandma I think!! Kids that are due first are going to find out what sex the baby is, the one due later doesn't want to know....what fun!!!
Our neighbors are gone on a 10 day vacation and their 18 yr old granddaughter is watering their plants. Since we've had 6 days of rain, she hasn't had much work. As I was taking my garden walk I noticed their slider open, but thought it was just a reflection. It bothered me later in the day, so I took a walk over there and sure enough - house was wide open!! I sent an email to their children and they called back and said GD had left the door open!! I went over and shut it for them....thank goodness they have a wide hangover, their carpets were dry.
Clearing supposed to come later tomorrow-thank goodness - that will make 7 days of gloom and doom
Mary, glad your neighbor hopped right out and picked out a new kitty. So sad for her to have to go thru that... My dahlias are gorgeous this year. I used messenger and I'm not sure if that was the cause or it was just a good year for them. They are loaded with blossoms and dark green. I've picked tons of them for bouquets.
Yum Maria,, strawberry/rhubarb pie...I made hamburger helper, but with fresh tomatoes and cukes from the garden. I stink in the cooking department....
Darius- what is a brix? - good luck with the wine making-sounds like fun!
Vi- it is supposed to be nice for three days here, then get bitter cold, so I am planning on doing cuttings this weekend. I have a ton of coleus that I want cuttings from.
Well, time to watch the news!!
-
Mary, we posted exactly at the same time, just wanted to say Hi,
Sarv, Kids are so funny some times, grampa forgot to close the door that did not enter their mind, LOL
Have a mess to clean up in the kitchen, see you tomorrow.
I'm back from church, just reading now, but will catch up later.
Sarv - what fun it will be to have two grand babies close in age.
Gonna do something new like go sit in front of the TV and crochet a bit. I got a lot done on one afghan while in Japan. Kindermusik starts tomorrow and DH is away; so I will have to take them this week. They start Junior Kindergarten on Friday. Were going to go to the Public school system, but got a lot of grief about busing. The babysitter has several other kids and it would be very difficult to get them all out to the bus stop when they go and again to meet them. (They were supposed to go in the afternoon in spite of requesting morning.) So, we have two tax supported school systems. They are going to the Separate (Catholic) school instead because they can go in the morning and they got no grief about the busing. DD want them to go to the public schools eventually because the French immersion program is better. They were baptized Catholic which their Dad is, but they've been in our United church far more often than they've been to a Catholic one.
BBL.
Ann
Sarv, have I told you lately that you are awesome???? I would love some of each of the datura's if you are sure you will have enough. I have played Bunko with two seperate groups of ladies and the rules were a bit different with each group but we always had a blast. I am still close with most of them even though we dont play anymore. It is a dice game played with four people at a table rolling three dice per table. You switch tables only when you win, but switch parters after each game. A predetermined amount of games are played and the person who ends with the highest amount of games won is the winner. The method of getting points and what each roll is worth is the largest difference in each group of women that I have noticed. Just keep asking questions, remember dice games are won with luck and not skill no matter what they try to tell you, and have fun.
Vann, is someone other then you keeping tabs on your sucessors inability to do the job correctly? I would hate to see him cause some serious problems and when you bring attention to his lack of skills he turns it on you.
Didn't sleep well at all last night. Heartburn kept me awake and then my brain engaged on a plan for a garden at the SC property and the night was a loss. Came home from work and again for the second day took a short nap. They finally managed to get the air up and running about 11:30am.
All of you having rain, enjoy a little bit of it for me. I think I will scoot outside for a bit and try sanding on the dresser a little bit while letting the sprinklers run some.
Have a great night all.
Casey
Hi all,
Cece, nope, we haven't been talking to your DH, but glad that you heard us anyhow.
sarv, V-ann, Mary, and Maria, yeah, I know that Summer squash pie sounds kind of strange. That's why it took me so long to try the recipe, but it's been a big hit here ever since. It isn't really much like a pumpkin or Winter squash pie. It looks and tastes more like a regular custard pie. I posted the recipe on the recipe forum here sometime last year, but if it's hard to find there, it's also on my blog http://www.its-a-gift.info One of the nicest things about it is it's a breeze to make. I think I'm going to reduce the sugar a bit the next time I make it though --- will let you know how it comes out.
sarv, those dahlias look better than any bad hair day I've ever had! Wish I had the time (and the sunny area) to grow things like that, but can't even keep up with what I've already taken on. Hope you really enjoy all those grandkids.
darius, glad you're getting things done, but don't know how you can function with that tooth still giving you problems. Couldn't you postpone the NC trip, or is it a matter of "now or never" to get some help with that from your brother?
I have no idea what bunco is either. The only reference to it that I've ever seen was a tatty Tshirt in one of those ubiquitous mail-order catalogs.
Sheila, all those jam jars looked real purty but I'm glad that I'm not the only one who ends up sticking to the floor after a major kitchen session!
kooger, wish I could do something to help, but all I can do is send positive thoughts your way.
Hi to I01, Bonnie, ves, dmcd, suzieq (have a great trip and please say hi to Casey for me), earthling, and anyone else out there. I'm somewhat distracted tonight and need to vent a bit, I'm afraid.
DH went to the podiatrist today and did not get the news that we'd been hoping for. Far from being pronounced fit for work again, he was told that his left foot has healed nicely, but that the right is either still or yet again, infected. He needs surgery which will cost between $15,000 and $20,000 if done in this country. Now we have to explore our options which are 1. trying to arrange for him to get into a hospital in England and probably to stay with his brother for a time there, 2. taking out a home equity loan to pay for this, or 3. taking the money from his IRA and hoping that we don't live long enough to run out of money later on. Aint that a kick in the teeth? DH said that the doctor told him that he was ashamed and embarassed about the state of health care in this country. Doesn't help us much. I'm going to check on whether or not we are eligible for some help from the state, but I don't expect much.
I'll be back later to post tomorrow's link, but don't have an awful lot more to say right now.
I am Alive!!!! I went into our DS old bedroom, now my catch all and decided that I needed to clean and move stuff..LOL there was an avalanche and I got it. Lucky for me it was nothing heavy but good heavens what a mess..And I am not done.
A penny ball is a bowling ball that you glue pennys onto and then use it for garden art. I saw one and it looked really neat. The dog has issues with things with eyes and stands and barks at it and then attacks them. We have tried to show her they are o.k. and she is o.k. with them so long as they are not in her yard.
Sarv great news about the babies.
Casey hope you get a good nites sleep tonite
oh poo company gotta run..~~~~~~~~~~'s to all I missed. Hugs Lauri
Just checking in.
Casey, successor underwent a thorough review at the end of his six months and it was made abundantly clear that he needs to pull up his socks re client stats. He seems to now consider them a bit more important. It's obvious that he overstated his computer skills when we hired him, but he does have other skills that are good in the job. He's getting the grant application together reasonably well; so I think everything will be OK.
Just had a message from the best ringer in my handbell group that she's joined a nearby church. She says, and I believe her, that she had originally planned to play with both groups, but the realities of balancing kids, and more work hours of her hi-tech husband have hit home. I had figured it would be a matter of time before she switched to the church with the more challenging program - she played handbells almost professionally in Korea for many years before coming to Canada. It was our good fortune that she found our program first. But it hasn't kept me from laying a bit of a guilt trip on her because without her I don't think we can play at the wedding of one of our ringers from last year on Oct. 7. I already need to find one sub because it is our Thanksgiving weekend and some of the group are away. I just wish she had let me know a bit sooner.
I think I'll call it a day a bit early tonight. Hope you all have a good night.
Ann
Hi Lauri - good job on that room and what a way to use an old bowling ball. LOL
Well, I don't know whether you've all beaten me to bed or if everyone is just busy tonight. At any rate, I'm pretty tired, so I'll see you all on tomorrow's thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/650796/
Lauri, I had wanted to turn an old bowling ball around here into a penny ball but could never figure out exactly how to start it, and what type of glue to use. Any hints would be welcomed.....
Ann, sorry to hear that you are losing such a valuable bell ringer. I hope that you are able to find someone to help replace her and still able to do the wedding as originally planned.
Yep, Cece, I have been staying up at night calling your DH and informing him of all your wild ways. LOL We will do what ever it takes to keep those we care about healthy. Please dont try and rush it.
Darius, have a safe drive and enjoy the drive. I wanted to give you a call today but forgot your number at home. I will try again day after tomorrow.
McCool, I am so sorry to hear about DH's foot. The price of medical care and the lack of help with the finacing of it is horrible in this country. We are currently saving up all the extra pennies we can in hopes of being able to prepay for 6 months of cobra for when we move. My youngest has some pretty expensive dental and maxifacial surgeries coming up in the next year or so and I really dont want to be faced with those and NO insurance. Scary....
Well I sanded a bit on the dresser, and now I am going to go relax and watch Dancing with the Stars for a bit before I head for bed. Good night to all....
Casey
Aw, McCool, so sorry to hear the news about DH. I hadn't asked recently how it was going, but realize now that I should have, so sorry about that. I sure hope that you find some help with the expenses, but if going to England is the cheapest method, then so be it. I know that it would be a strain on you, having to probably stay home and keep the home fires buring, but knowing he is getting good care would surely make the separation worth while. My dear friend your situation will be in my prayers. Give DH my best.
Gee, I get so involved in others trials, but there is a silver lining in this cloud, it makes me dwell less on my problems, and focus on how lucky, blessed that I am.
Well, I guess I have been MIA today, didn't realize it until I went back to look what had gone on today. This was grocery/errand day, and it was a hectic one. I didn't sleep well last night, and slept in a bit, so a late start to begin with. Got all the items on 3 lists, but in delivering it, sure made major mistakes. Got home, and carrying in the bags, said "i sure don't remember my list being this long". Well, I had delivered to DMIL, DM, and when I got into the bags, found that I have failed to leave parts of their orders in the car. So that meant another trip back to deliver those items of theirs I had gotten home with. Well finally got all that sorted out, and called I01 for our weekly chat, no answer. Didn't alarm me, but decided that I needed to deliver the craft item to neighbor for her birthday. The pot bird feeder loaded in the car, but when I got to her house and unloaded it, the glue gave way, and I delivered it in 2 pieces. Very embarrasing. She was thrilled with it, and said that she would take the glue gun to it and repair it. Home, message from I01, so called her again, had a very nice long chat. Then was running late to prepare a meal in time to be on time to Bible study. Said all of this to say: "tomorrow I will get out of bed on the other side". Days like this make me appreciate the "good days".
Well, won't even try to comment to anybody, you know the bad syndrome day. Just ~~~~~ frantically to all, and hope that you forgive me for my off day.
Gonna go check some other forums, then off to bed, hopefully for a really really good night.
Night all.
