I need some help. I am not sure why I ordered this but I did and I now need to know what it needs to survive.
Ipomoea microdactyla
Excuse me while I go look those up :)
They are in the plant files.

You might find some helpful ideas there.
Wow, they are pretty red trumpets. I have never raised these but they are pretty.

Yep I looked them up in plantfiles. Not too much information. I just cannot remeber why I would have ordered these. Well I will just give it my best try and let everyone know how it goes.
Wonder what they neighbors will think when they no longer see a house and only vines....
I`m sure someone here might have grown them. If they are on their pc then you bet they will give you some ideas of what to expect.
I have grown some very interesting out of the way vines myself...killed plenty too and found out through trial and error. :)
Yep I would be the Queen of killing by trial and error! :o)
It's called education, Marie, not murder! (it's all how you justify it) I like that tater vine, I bet the hummers do to! I grew the Sun Spots mg this year..... It was more orange... When I first saw the pic in plant files, I thought it was cardinal vine or cypress vine, but the one in pf looks kind of coral or pinkish.
Well if I can keep it alive and get it to bloom next spring you will be first on my list for seeds. :o)
LMAO!!!
Marie, find out what date you ordered them, then go through your posts for that day, you'll figure it out.
Still LOL
I already did that!!! I cannot find out anything in regards to this. I am starting to wonder if I meant to order something else and hit the wrong button!!!! I will be going through this again later this week. Time for those boxes to start rolling in. :o)

LOL
The Ipomoea microdactlya plants that are available are all clonal and when certain MG plants that usually reproduce by seeds are repeatedly reproduced by clonal propagation, they gradually increasingly loose vigor...
The few people that I had corresponded with that had success with the Ipomoea microdactlya were in Florida, California,Hawaii and Puerto Rico...it seems like this is a species that expects(at least) a semi-tropical type of environment...
The plants that are from clones are almost invariably self-infertile and therefore will not produce seeds...
I had brief correspondence with 1 person who had several plants that were from different stock and did produce some seeds...she told me she was going to send me some seeds, but I did not hear back from the person...
Good Luck with the plant you have...as a species it is a perennial that forms a tuber,so maybe it will survive and perk up...
TTY,...
Ron
Thanks Ron for all the information. Like I said I have no clue why I ordered this one.
I will just have to say a prayer over it and hope for the best.. :o)
Well, now would be a good time to plant it I would think, just don't let those gophers get it!
I try and remember the gopher poison with every new plant I plant :o) I look forward to trying castor beans in the spring. I would love to use something natural to keep the little buggers away. :o)
