New at this!

Ok, I'm really new at growing these. Bluespiral, you wanted to know how these went. These were planted July 27th. They are only about 10" tall but have bloomed. They are Minibar. They are really pretty. I just don't think that they will have time to produce seeds, and that's ashame. Soooo... that means I will be growing more next year! LOL!!

Melanie those are beautiful. I love the varigated foilage.

You could bring them inside to let them finish making seeds if you see pods on there. It is a pretty vine and hope you can get you some seed for next year.

Looking at the size of the flowers (larger), the short compact growth habit and the variegated dragonfly type leaves, I might suggest that it is closer to one of the Sunsmile series rather than a Minibar Rose....but...what ever it is , it sure is attractive! Nice, clear pictures too!!

I think gardner2005 has a good suggestion. Because they are in baskets, when threat of frost is in the air, you could move them to a protected area and allow the seed pods to mature.

Really nice photos of lovely flowers way to go!

Thanks so much for the information everyone! I think I will bring them in and hope for seed pods. I just love the bright colors and the varigated leaves!

Sorry to be so tardy getting over here, Melanie. EmmaGrace was the source of these seeds, and she'd be proud of both of our horticultural prowess if she could see how well her seeds are growing out. I'm growing mine in the ground up a small fence where the lily beetle massacred my 'Black Beauty' lilies earlier in the summer. With a red-leaved canna coming up through the whole business (thank you, Critterologist), that spot sings again. Who'd have thought it would be the leaves of a MG that would make such a great moonlight plant.

I'm trying to root tip cuttings from Emma's JMGs for wintering over indoors - maybe with an earlier start next year, and better vigilance against the local tribe of woodchucks we'll get more flowering and seeds. I can't believe the patterns and shadings she has achieved on these flowers - kinda reminds me of the apex of hippie tie-dyed T-shirts - LOL.

Great job on your first growing/blooming attempts at M.G.'s!
