Laburnum alpinum-'Pendulum' Weeping Goldenchain

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 8a)

My Weeping goldenchain is about 3 years old and around 6-7 feet tall. It had beautiful yellow flowers this spring. Now I have a tree full of seed pods. Can these be planted and grown? Do these type of trees get little shoots underneath? Mine has several, DA says they are "something else". Thanks, Karen~

Karen;
Shoots at the base of the tree, or around it and under the canopy? You can send all the seeds my way if you want a place to get rid of them, just to be safe. They should be properly dispersed, er, disposed of. Oh, yes, the seeds are quite toxic. Joking or not, they are.
Generally, Laburnum seedlings have adult three-part leaves like the parents in short time. Seedlings do happen in the right climate.
Still, your safest route is to send them to me, as though I need more.

So, I am guessing that maybe I can get a tree from a seed or two? My tree has lots of seed pods......Here are some pics.....Do you think the little ones are trees? I'll post for identification also...thanks...K~

Yes. My guess would be that you could get a tree or two, but not like that one.
It won't be weeping, it will be the straight species Goldenchain tree, which is still a fine tree.
Me too, I'll take some seeds!

Hmmm. Those shoots look like they are suckers from the rootstock- which should be removed, as they will overtake the weeping selection.
I think simple firm pulling is the preferred way to remove them, but can someone reaffirm that?
When did you plant it?

It was planted 3 years ago....I'd be glad to send you guys some seeds. Can I just send them in the pods? K~

I think K is right. Those starts are clustered around the base of the tree, unlike seedlings which would be scattered, and they are much too mature-looking at this stage for seedlings. They're probably suckers and should be pulled at the base, before they become woody if possible.

Thanks...I'll do that!

Sure, I'd gladly have some seeds in pods. Can I send you any?
Persimmon, White Oak, Bur Oak, Chinkapin, Thornless Honeylocust,
Bald Cypress, Mimosa? How about a Prickly-Pear pad? You name it and I'll try to find it!
Will
p.s. I sent you a D-Mail with my home address for the Goldenchain seeds.

I don't need any, I found my stash of them in the fridge.
Easy to grow from seed, lovely little beasts.

shortleaf...I'll get you some pods in the mail. Thanks for the offer of the trees but we have no room for monster trees:0 Our neighbors do ahve some cool ones. The prickly pear pad sounds cool but I don't think he'd like it much here in Western Washington...thanks!

You are welcome, I have lots more if any one needs them? Maybe I should go to the seed forum? K~
