These are the most common Scorpions in this area. In fact they are about the only type I ever see around here and they are pretty plentiful. I'm not sure what species they are but hopefully someone on here will know. I've always just heard them called little brown scorpions.
CLOSED: Maybe small, but packs a mean punch . . .
lol GD...I just ran out of the garage because a little brown scorpion was on the door....*yaaaaah* :o He took off runnin' under the pickup....sort a' mumblin' to himself with his tail in the air....lol ;D
lmbo TxT . . . . I think I figured out what kind it is . . . but not 100% sure just yet . . . there's so many that look pretty close.
Here's what I'm think'n it is.

haha...he definitely did not! lol :o...And why is it, now that we're on the subject of scorpions, do these big critters decide to hang out on my foundation every night? I mean, its like they congregate every night out there...just sort of....waitin' to catch my eye when I go rustle up a flashlight...lol ;) Big ones too! I saw one about 4" long...I couldn't hose the darn rascal off with water to save my soul....lol
lol TxT . . . well they gotta get their nightly shower somewhere don't they? :D
Seems to me that they know you're there to give'em one and they probably wonder why you don't provide towels like at the beach shower house . . . That's why they're hold'n their little hands out, don't ya know? lol
Actually that may be part of it . . . water be'n as hard to find out there as it has been this year, they may be looking for cool damp places to hang out and do a little garden roach hunt'n.
I could tell you some stories about those big water bugs and scorpions . . . but it's get'n late and I should save that for another thread :D
ewwwwwwwwww glad we don't have them here
lol Donna . . . are you sure you don't?
I just got confirmation today that this is in fact a Striped Bark Scorpion. They're also the most common in the US, not just Texas.
lol GD...wasn't there a story in there somewhere about a keg party and an aquarium? lol... ;) Or was it tequila... *scratchin' head*..hmm... lol
I had no idea that they're nocturnal critters...but it seems that night is the only time that I ever see them....unless I rustle one up while watering the flowerbeds....
I was sitting on the concrete of my front porch talkin' to my mama and drinking tea (unsweet) and one of those darn varmints decided to take a walk near my leg....I sort of squealed and scared my mama to death on the phone...lol... I have em' all over the place out this way! If anyone wants a couple of scorpions...I would be more then happy to let a few go...lol.. :D
GD have never heard anyone in La, Al, Ms, or Fl ever say anything about having them and have never seen one.
lol TxT @ squeal'n . . . Don't be scare'n your ma like that and wake'n up half the neighborhood :))
Oh and yeah it was ta'killya and I was hope'n you fergot about dat one :D :P
That's interesting Donna . . . I'm so used to them I just figured that everyone had them. Then again, like TxT said, they are nocturnal, so they aren't out all the time for eveyone to notice.
meet Donna the Night Owl lol. I used to garden at night. I worked 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. I worked my flowers after work like everyone else. I had a sercurity light installed in the front and back at my old home. My biggest concern was running into a water moccassin
:D yeah I know how that goes. I'm a bit of a night owl myself. It's almost like another world out there after the sun goes down huh? :)
In all my years run'n around in the brush and much of it at night (hunting wild hogs) it's hard to believe that I've never run into a water moccassin. I know we have plenty around here, I just never happened upon one.
Hi guys
Them scorpions sure do pack a punch. I was stung by a wee little one the other day and it still hurt and caused the usual numbness. Just not as bad as the parents. As for snakes, we have a lot in my area, Calaveras Lake. There are quite a few copper heads and rattle snakes but we haven't seen too many water moccassins.
Hi
A good website to look up bugs is http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740. I have found it pretty interesting. Hope you will too.
Yeah I'm not far from there myself Dee and we get plenty of Copperheads out here. I haven't seen any Buzz'tails out this way, but I'm sure there are some around somewhere.
Indeed that BugGuide site is a good resource for look'n up all sorts of bugs. I've been able to get ID confirmation on several over there lately.
Thanks for share'n :)
I'm holding my breath and hoping not to see any here at the new place in the country. All I have heard is how bad the copperheads and rattlers are here but have yet to run across one(knock on wood). Just a black snake and a few tiny ring neck snakes
Yeah I'm with you there Donna . . . I put mothballs and mothball granules out around my yard and extra heavy on one side that faces a wooded area. It seems to help . . . I haven't seen any copperheads in the yard since I started doing that.
Oddly enough....what with all of the snakes that I've seen around here...I haven't seen a copperhead yet.....at least I think I haven't....lol :o
hmmm interesting . . . I wonder if they are like me and allergic to rocks :D lol
lolol...is that what it is? I knew these dadgum boulders were good for something around here... ;p
We have a few natural snake killers out here. The first are road runners (Yes just like the cartoon) their main diet is rattle snakes. It's neat to watch them. They dance to mezmerize them and then grab them and slap them on the ground until they are dead then eat them head first. The second is the king snake. their main diet is also rattle snake. If you see a king snake in your area then you have a rattle snake near by. Grat helpers. I live out in the country and appreaciate natures help. Her si apicture of a king snake and I show you all one of a road runner.
We have a colony of the European Green Scorpion Euscorpius flavicaudis living at a place called Sheerness. I know it is hard to believe so here is a couple of links
