cotyledon colors

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I wonder how come some of my morning glory cotyledons are different colors? Is it the cooler weather or does it mean the plant will be a certain color? I`m curious.

Is that Yellow ?

I went and looked again and the light areas are yellow. Is that good or bad? Most of them are green exept for the variegated ones.

I have seen variegated seedling before with the streaking but these have more light yellow than what I have seen before.

I had one that was almost white but I don`t see it anymore.

The JMG's with chartreuse (yellow) leaves will have cotyledons that are light green, often with prominent veins, depending on the flower color. Often the cotyledons will be variegated also if the leaves are going to be variegated. Are these supposed to be yellow leaved plants?

The first picture looks like it has some dark green on it also. I wonder if it has the genes that causes part of the leaf to be regular green and parts yellow?

You can determine a lot about what kind of plant you have by various cotyledon colors, shapes and textures. The color and pattern of color of the initial seedling stem (hypocotyl) can give you an indication of some flower colors and patterns. Have you ever noticed that some are red and some purple....? It is all very interesting!!

Some links to Yoneda where color of the early hypocotyl is related to resultant flower color

Some of these are a cross between the yellow/green variegated leaf Ukigumo and another pretty variegated one with large flower and blizzard pattern of unknown origin. That could be what is going on. I`ll watch and see. I see a lot of red veining on one of them.

I don`t think it is food because I worked in some good stuff for the cannas so they should be getting too much nourishment. :)

Thanks all for the comments. Have a good night.

So far the palest one has died but the one with more green is growing out green divided by sections of yellow in the leaves. This looks different more like marble ivy and not like the spotty variegation I have seen so far. Maybe it will change as the plant grows.
