Hummingbird, what a BEAUTIFUL plant! I have 2 "rope" type hoya. One variegated (krimson queen colors) that has 7 stems about 6-20 inches long and I recently purchased 4 small plants of the 'mauna loa' variety. I sure hope mine look that good eventualy. Way to grow! -joanne

Beautiful plant Hummingbird. You must be doing everything right. It seems very healthy and happy.
I find the plain green ones of the rope type hoyas seem to bloom much better and more often than the variegated ones. They also seem to grow faster.
I guess that is true of all the variegates vs the green.
Marcy
yes i think so..as i also have a varigated rope...not near as old as the green one but it does have some years on it and it isnt near the size...thank you for the compliment on my plant...lol...at least i had something worthwhile to show..being as most of my hoyas are small...my original hoyas i started with are good size
hummingbird
Jeri...no, that is not Ruthi. That is the very same type of hoya that hummingbird has, which is Hoya compacta.
It has beautiful long vines though, and I see it is blooming up a storm. It may be getting just a bit too much sun or high light, as I see some of the leaves are taking on a yellowish cast. It would be a darker green in lower light.
Marcy
Nice blooming H. compacta Jeri....I agree with Marcy about the yellowish cast...but it sure seems happy!!!
Hi yall,
I have been alotted the west side of my house for gardening so for me this is as shaded as it gets. I haven't done any of my fertilizing this month and everything I have is so dependant on ferllizer. My soil is so bad.
I posted my hoya and someone identified it in the plant files as Ruthie. What do I do to correct that?
Jeri
Jeri, send an email to DG administration and explain the error to them (go to the bottom of this page and click on "Contact Us"). I'm surprised no one verified the picture before it went into PlantFiles - I always thought that's why the delay between when we post a picture and when it appears. Guess not!
Christine
hello jeri11...i just got home and discovered everyone had answered you...so i guess you know...everyone here is really helpful when you have a question...you have a very nice hoya...do you have other hoyas as well??
hummingbird
Jeri
The photo of Hoya cv. Ruthie - or Hoya 'Ruthie' - is correct. I just checked. All the photos are verified before they are posted in plantfiles. I think someone was pulling your leg!!!! You might let them know.
Carol
I think it is some our dear Uber Duber aka Milan could help with. HmmmmI didn't see the compacta there.
Hmmm, maybe there's two listings for Ruthie? I used the generalized search and typed in hoya ruthie. Here's a link to the one I'm talking about. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57814/index.html

Hi yall
I'm really confused now is it a Ruthie or not? I contacted the adm@dave's garden but was unable to copy the link for a discussion. I would hate to mislead anybody even if I didn't identify it. The picture I posted here is the same picture that I sent to the plant files.
Jeri
I went to the link of H. 'Ruthie' (the single quotes are put there to mean H. cv. Ruthie) and saw Jeri's picture. I clicked on REPORT AND ERROR and reported it.
No, Jeri...your hoya is definitely H. compacta and not H. 'Ruthie'....
Carol
Thank you Carol
I was so upset is was incorrect and I really appreciate you getting it straight.
Jeri
Christine...give her something to climb and she is take off like a Scalded Cat....and bloom.
hummingbird_1
No I don't have anymore that's the only one. I've had it for about 10 years but if anybody has cuttings I'll pay postage.
Thanks,
Jeri
hello jeri...further up the thread is a post for anyone who wants cuttings...she has an email addy for you to contact....you could see if she still has some...it was recent......ttyl...hummingbird
Jeri...I reported the error to "the powers that be" and they told me YOU had to report it. Just go to the Ruthie page in PF and click on 'Report an Error'....
