Hummningbird 1, welcome!!! Also, put some alcohol in a spray bottle and spray that on the mealies, along with the Bayer drench.

Hey T I have a request for pictures Good you made on here vicki
it is fun already....still looking around at the different areas....i saw a place to put some of my info..havent done that yet but hope to soon...hi vicki...by the way ,vicki is the one that told me about this site ...we have been talking back and forth on hoyas for some time now....and exchanging plants....she gave me several...she also introduced me to carol...of whom i have ordered some from her as well....i have a question that i will post later tonight...have to get dinner done...lol....later...hummingbird
Hey Vicki...GREAT to see YOU post, too!!! Hey everyone...Vicki has gobs of hoyas and is a Certified Hoyaholic!! She rang T - Hummingbird in on the obsession too...so that little corner of Oregon is fairly obsessed, too!!!
Well Hi carol Im looking for my next hoya fix. would like some small leaf ones I dont have. any ideas? vicki
yeah vicki emails me and sometimes comes in where i work to chat abit...about hoyas of course...lol.....anyway here is my questions...first off i have never used the bayer t/s...does it stink as bad as malathion?...next question....i have this hoya...pottsii....by all appearances it looks healthy...top side of leaves are green ....however when you turn the leaf over it has a tanish brown rough look to it...starts out as a patch and eventually completely covers the backside....looks like it may be moving to the front of one of the leaves but so far just the backs....is this some sort of disease ?....if so...is it curable? and are my other hoyas in danger?...thanks for your help....hummingbird
mskitty.....on the alcohol spray....do you mix it with some water?...if so what is the ratio?...thanks...hummingbird
HB-1. No, the BTS (Bayer Tree and Shrub) doesn't stink at all (it is actually the same stuff they use to put on dogs against fleas - ADVANTAGE). I use alcohol @100% straight out of the bottle. I have been told that the important thing is letting the pot sit in the runoff so it can fully absorb as much as it can...like 5 mins. That way the 'soil' gets fully saturated.
The crusty stuff on leaves???? Sounds like a fungus. Mark? You there? I would sure isolate it until you find out what it is. Try Google-ing it: Leaf Fungi or something like that. I get that stuff on my epis outside.
Vicki...let's talk on email?
ok carol....thank you for the info!!!
Welcome hummingbird! You'll love this forum...lots of very nce and knowledgable people here. Always willing to support our addiction...lol!

Whatever you prefer....Thelma. Call me anything but late for dinner....yuk yuk yuk!
Carol
Nice to meet you hummingbird!
Wow I think we should rename Oregon, Someday I am going to drive down the I-5 and head for hoya land. I live on Vancouver Island and the only thing that holds me back is that cold swim to the mainland:)
You will love it here.
Bea
Hummingbird.....I just read Carol's post above and wanted to make sure you understood that she meant to let the plant set in the runoff from the Bayer (not the alcohol). I use pure 3% alcohol also to spray them with (in fact I put a sprayer right on the alcohol bottle), but you don't want to get a lot of it on/in the soil. Also, you want to keep the plant out of the sun after you spray it until it is very dry. That should take care of the ones on the plant now, and the Bayer drench should keep them free of new ones for about 6 to 8 months.
Marcy
Thanks for that clarification, Marcy....!!!! I need help!!
lol...well i just got home from work and the first thing i do is check the forum ....funny!....a continued" thank you" to more of the welcomes directed to me......on the directions...yep...i understood...sure am glad marcy ,that you cared enough to make sure....i certainly would have sounded pretty stupid if i started talking to one of you and had misunderstood....not to mention buying enough alcohol to cover an entire plant for a soak... and by carols comment i see she likes to joke...which is a very good thing...i love to laugh!!!....on a hoya note...i have purchased my bottle of bayer...and will find a sprayer that fits a bottle of alcohol....if i cant ill just buy an empty sprayer and label it good...plan on doing the soak thing sometime while the weather is still good outside so i can make a mess :)
will talk to you all soon
hummingbird......(thelma)
Hey ladies, I've done it again! I cut back several of my huge hoyas and can't bear to throw the cuttings away. Anyone interested in free cuttings, please e mail me at hoyaannie@aol.com to get the particulars. You pay postage only. Among them are H. plicata, H. crassicaulis and some very tiny leaved things that I'll tell you about in an e mail. Please write free cuttings on the subject line of your e mail, so aol doesn't consider them unknown and possible spam.

hummingbird
Hi Hummingbird,
If you look below the box you write your reply message, you will see another box under the word "image." All you need to do is click on the "Browse" box, and find the photo you want to upload from your computer, click on it, and when your computer screen returns you to Dave's Garden, you will see that the link to your image is now in the box. Then, just click on the "Send" box and in a few moments it will have uploaded onto the website and you will see a webpage that has options such as "Return to the Hoyas Forum," or "Go to the thread that you have just replied to."
After you do it a couple of times it'll be old hat!
Ann
ok...i am going to give it a go then....thanks for the info
