I think you are a lily addict, declfi. Your seedlings look fabulous! Are your orientals blooming now or were the pictures taken earlier? Mine have finished and I have just a couple of speciosums still going. If this is the first time for growing David Sims' seeds you are in for a treat!

Oh my! I bet it smells heavenly around your house. :)

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Oh, looks like very good growth for first yr. seedlings. Whe do you plant on transplanting them to a different location?
I have some that have to be moved from my cold frames to a permanet home and wondering if I should wait until frost has nipped them?
Gee, who wants to think of frost and then winter?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You've done great work declfi! Beautiful flower photos too.

Fenton, MO(Zone 6b)

No, The orientals finished up about a month ago with my last lily finished a week ago. I like lilies because you can fit them in any where. I plant them between my azaleas and rhododendrons. Yes it very fragrant in july.

After reading this section, I purchased a few seeds from the above company. Rec'd them in approx. 3 weeks. plus a bonus pack. Trumpet-Aurelian, Purple Trumpets, L. davidi x L. tigrinum F2, L. Tigrinum x L. wilsonil F2 and T18RH-1 x Amethyst Temple #4 F2. Now that I have the seeds, what should I do - Should I wait until March to plant. I live approx. 80 miles from the Oregon border - next to Eureka Calif. Decifi, what did you do (per your pictures) to get them to grow that nice. Thanks

Hi Mnorberry
I started my seedlings under Lights in December. I used a Metal halide light and ran it at night from 6 pm to 6 am . It was also in a south-facing window. I feed every time I watered at 1/4 to 1/2 strength and sprayed with a fungicide once in awhile, especially when they’re small at 1/4 strength. I used mircale grow potting mix mixed with 1/4 peralite and 1/4 vermulite. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Wow, those seedlings look great. And your "parents" are amazingly beautiful.

Are the lilys around the tree asiatics?

Thanks

Thanks Dennis. I just started growing lilys last year and noticed that the asiatics bloomed first, then my orientals.

your pics are inspiring :-)

Dennis /declfi -- you should put together a "how to" thread with instructions just like TrackinSand did over in the rose forum for rose cuttings. It would be very helpful for some of us -- pictures and all.

They look great, declfi.. What are you using for starting mix and what is the reddish colored "mulch" on the surface?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wow ~ that's quite a set up!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You seed starters look so oraganized. Great looking set-up you have there, Dennis.

Well, you see I am not the greatest typist and it bothers me when I spell things wrong, not because I don't know how to spell, but because I am a very bad typist. So I caught this BEFORE it went through, stopped it, corrected and submitted, then it posts both. But On the other hand, Dennis's stuff does look that organized, doesn't it?? :0)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Don't worry about it Mags, we know what you meant. :)

Just trying to make a funny. Puns are my favorite type of joke. I have had to go back and edit and re edit the same message as much as four times!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Glad I'm not alone, Lefty. Should never have dropped out of 10th grade typing to have a study hall with a boy I liked. LOL!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

It's amazing how I never learned to type the entire time I was in high school. It took the advent of the computer to make it a necessary skill for me to have. :) Spelling, well.... that's what a spell checker is for. I could never spell to save my soul. Besides, I get to rushing to type what I want to say and well.... you guys know the drill. :) I'm also lousy at puncuation.... Good thing I can plant a lily, eh?
