WHY? Chai is an integral part of the Round Ups! we are going to miss him .... and no pic for this year either ....
Dallas RU and Plant Swap Oct8th, Maps, Attendance, Food.
I know - he is three... mom is going to keep him for the day.
I have a class that I must go to from 12:30-2. I thought I could miss it, but better not.
I'll come early and leave off plants and maybe I can make it back after the class. I don't know what to bring as a door prize, but I'll think of something. I had thought of a BIG BRUG, but at 4 ft. tall he's hard for someone to bring home. I'll keep thinking.
cynthia
I am still planning on being there. Hard to get to the internet at this time, though. I am sad that some people cannot come, but perhaps I will get to meet them next year. Can't wait to meet people face to face and talk "shop"!
Look forward to meeting you too indirt. The one last year was my first and I had a wonderful time.
Well, I have to post this from work since my home computer seems to be seriously compromised - slows to a crawl or freezes altogether at the drop of a hat, whether online or processing photos, or whatever!
I hate to say it, but my friend and I won't be able to come after all. We will be at the College Station RU, but can't get this one to work. I hate it, because I know some of you won't be at the College Station do, and I really want to see you. You guys have a great time, I'll be thinking about you. I'm trying to back up all my pictures and documents now, I'm resorting to re-formatting my hard-drive so I can actually use my computer again. Hope to be able to get here more often then, and even see all your pictures!
Love to you all,
Mary
Oh Mary, I am so sorry you won't make it to our Swap, but you do what you have to do, and we understand.
We will miss you greatly, and hope to see you at College Station.
Love,
Josephine.
I knew that grandbaby would change your priorities!! LOL!!! Hope you are enjoying her! We will miss you.
Sheila
Well Guys, just one more day to go. It looks like it will be a lovely day, sunny and not too hot.
I am excited, are you? See you there Sunday at noon.
Your friend;
Josephine.
Okay, sorry, I haven't been on DG for a few weeks, and haven't posted here. I am still coming tomorrow and will bring a door prize. As for food, I don't know what... will bring something, though. I noticed Josephine is bring drinks/ice/cups--what about plates, napkins, and forks?
Hello pbtxlady, I am bringing plates cups and napkins also, and Sheila is bringing silverware.
If you want to bring extra ice that would be good.
Josephine.
Okay, ice it is. :) I have an awful cold and don't think it would be a good idea for me to cook something to bring. Anyone mind if I stop by the deli and pick something up?
Not at all, just do what is best for you, I am sure we will have plenty of food.
See you tomorrow,
Josephine.
I baked pies this evening at Mom's house next door. My nearly new, but JUST out of warranty, oven has error messages flashing all over it. They do smell good, so I hope they are. DH is following them tomorrow. Just kidding, he is eager to see everyone too. And the food.
I still have a bit of plant packing to do in the morning, so I am headed to bed and plan to be up early. I hope everyone has a safe trip and am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
Okay... I am sitting here at home missing the swap. :(
This just wasn't my weekend. I mentioned yesterday that I have a cold. Last night it turned into a fever, so coming at all was up in the air. Then I managed to break the fever, so I thought I'd come, drop off my plants, and leave. (Didn't want to expose anyone.) Got in the car, started over towards Arlington, and my car started overheating. Forgot my cell phone and was stranded for awhile.
I'm so disappointed! I've looked forward to meeting everyone for months.
I have 3 dozen little plantlings, cuttings, and seeds that I promised. I really want to give these away. So Pat, Sheila, Dawn, Sylvia, Debbie, Josephine, TA Rogers & Mitch... if you guys will d-mail me your addresses, I would love to mail them to you.
So sorry for all the mishaps!
Pattie

Pattie, I am sorry about all the problems you had today, I hope things get better soon.
Don't worry about the plants, mailing them would be too expensive.
I will be seeing Ted, Sheila, Pat, Debbie and Sylvia at College Station, and Mitch can come and pick them up from my house, so if you want to bring them here one of these days, we can work it out.
Of course if you would rather do it some other way, that will be fine with me, just let me know.
Josephine.
Yeah Pattie ... dont worry about me, I dont even remember what I had coming from you. Did you have anything coming from me? College Station Swap is just a month away... we can take care of it then.
You just take care of your self ... getting all stressed out will just make things worse. Dealing with a car going hot on you is absolutely the worse, I prayed all the way to Arlington and back that Ruby would keep her cool! lol
Pattie, I am so sorry that you are ill and had car trouble on top of that. Not fair! Josephine is so sweet to carry plants for people who can't attend, so if you aren't going to be able to go to the All-Texas RU in College Station in November that would be a great time to send plants with her. I agree mailing would be way too expensive plus hard on young plants. We could send plants back with her for you if she has room. I hope we have another chance to meet you very soon!
Sylvia, Ruby is your car? I thought she was someone who rode with you!! lol Mom had a car we called Bessie when I was a kid. I don't know why, but that was her name.
Yeah Ruby is my car...lol I remember a lot of cars called Bessie. My girlfriends tried to call Ruby Bessie in the beggining, but I refused, that was my Grandma's name.
Well, I feel better because I had never met Ruby, though I knew she was with you a lot. lol Next time I'll go out to the parking lot and say hi!
We waved goodbye to you on the way out ... you dont remember? Everybody tells me its the reddest car they ever saw. lol
btw Pat I would like to have the receipe for that Chacolet Pecan pie.

I'll d-mail you the recipe, Sylvia. It's so easy. That pie normally does not stick to the pan like it did this time. I don't know what happened unless I overfilled the crusts a bit and the filling ran between the crust and the pan.
Yeah, I saw you leave and wave, but I had just made the 100th trip up and down that hill and had no energy left to wave back. I just hollered back at you! I need to name my Jeep, so maybe she will go another 150,000 miles. I know she is female because she is always wanting a little something new. That little computer screen lights up and demands washer fluid, new brake lights, oil -- you name it, she wants it. Glad she can't see the missing paint on her left side.
pbtxlady,
I feel for you with the bad day, hope your evening has been better. As Josephine said, we can get together and pick up a lot of the plants. Ted told me he wouldn't be going to CS this year, but the rest should be there I believe.

I know what you mean Pat. I went through a bad time after being out of work for a year and a half. I lost my Kia and I told myself I would never have another caypayment again.... I filed for my SS ...then I got the best job I ever had in my life, then ... I bought Ruby for 900.00. I said i was going to buy a new car ... but I have bonded with Ruby ...and even if I get that 96 BMW X5 that I have always craved ... I would still keep Ruby ... because ... she just reminds me of what living is really all about. :)

I love my Jeep. It's the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned, and I bought her used eleven years ago. I've never bought a brand new vehicle as I hate the depreciation that occurs the first year or two. And I really, really hate car payments. That's just me. The Jeep still smelled new when I got her even though she was two years old and had 40,000 miles. I'd spring for the new paint on the left side, but I am superstitious enough to think that might encourage her to blow her engine or transmission or something else $$$. lol
DH just gave it up and went to bed, so I think I will do the same. It's been a fun day, but now it's time to rest. Tomorrow I start dealing with the new plants I brought home. A plant swap is right up there with Christmas!
Sounds like y'all had a great time!
I doubt I can make the College Station RU. Wish I could. Maybe I can hook up with Josephine before then, though. Or maybe we could have another nursery day sometime soon.
Here's what I had to bring, and will still be glad to mail. (They are still pretty small.) But if some of you got them from other sources, or don't want them any more, LMK and I'll pass them on to someone else.
Dawn: turk's caps
Sylvia: creeping jenny, sedums (dragon's blood, golden carpet, blue spruce, couple of others unnamed), May Night
Mitch: May Night, Mystic Spires
Debbie: Dragon's Blood
Josephine: pink and blue skullcaps (both unrooted)
TARogers5: coreopsis seeds (Early Sunrise, Heaven's Gate, Limerock Ruby, Moonbeam)
Pat: catmint Walker's Low, pink monarda, Mystic Spires, blue & pink skullcaps (both unrooted), coneflowers
Sheila: coreopsis seeds, cosmos seeds, lemon bacopa/water hyssop, Dragon's Blood, yarrow (think it's still unrooted), coneflowers
Misc for anyone else: baptisia australis (unrooted), more of most of the above, variegated lamium (I think that's what it is)
Pattie don,t worry about the plants on my account. I hope you are feeling better, I am pretty tired today myself.
Josephine.
ohhh no..now Patty .... why didnt you just keep me in the dark? lol
Patty I just notice you are right there in Garland ... me and Ruby could have picked you up. Now I remember you are the one that grows the LimeRock Ruby! Do that plant come back for you?
Pattie,
So sorry you were unable to attend, hopefully next time. I have your autumn clematis and coral honeysuckle. Hmmm, you are in Garland? That's just down the road from me, if you want to try to get together sometime after you are feeling a bit better let me know.
Dawn
I agree with you who don't like car payments. I don't know why I am that way, but I am. I absolutely hate having car payments. I am one of those who will also never, ever buy another new car. I guess everyone should buy a brand new one one time, but that is enough. As Pat said, the depreciation just driving out of the car sales lot is enough to make you cry. I like to purchase cars anywhere from 1-3 years old, and I drive them until they just won't go anymore.
Hi - first time to the library and internet since the swap! I can't wait to get it at home again. I enjoyed the swap immensely and to see all the wonderful plants at Frostweed's house! I was happy I had some extras to pass out. It was fun meeting and talking with everyone - it felt like a family re-union even though this was my first swap.
Patrob - if you could d-mail me that recipe for choc. pecan pie, too, I'd appreciate it bunches! I'd make a whole pie just for me!
Same here patrob - I would love the recipe!
Me too...I already got my recipe :) I am making one for Dr Singer's birthday.
You can make a homemade crust or use a refrigerated crust from the grocery. I can't tell the difference and vote for Pillsbury or HEB brand. I'm sure there are others equally good. If this makes too much filling for your pan, spray a small casserole dish with panspray and cook the extra in it without a crust. Really good with a bit of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
