Hi,
We have a weeping cherry, cute thing, about 6 1/2 years old. My hubby wants to trim it, again, up off the ground and chop off its little legs that are creeping into our lawn.
Is he right? I don't mean trim as people do in manicured yards. I don't like that "pon pom" look personally, although many do. He wants to cut off and thin many of its branches, still leaving it abit wild and unruly in appearance.
Now, some of them have begun to fork after about 3 - 5 feet of growth. It is funny to see this little tree with 6-8 "forks" on it. Those are some of the characteristics he wants to chop. :(
So, what we want to know is, besides preference of branch length and tree shape, should we or should we not chop off these creepers and forks?
thanks
Weeping Cherry help
Much of pruning with something like that is structural, and most of the rest is personal preference. It would help if you could post a photo so we can see what's happening with it. I suspect, sight unseen, that you could be getting rid of some turf and letting it spread across a mulch bed.

Yes, I'll post a photo and you'll be able to see these "forks." Thanks.
