I was wondering if anyone in Southern California is able to grow crucifers (brassica family, I think)...especially cabbages and mustard plants. If anyone knows of any species that do well in So Cal, I would appreciate it. I am trying to plant them to serve as larval hosts for less common butterflies in our area.
Have a good day!!
Thanks,
Chuck
Crucifers
Sahara mustard is on the invasive list so you probably want to avoid it. Brassica Nigra is pretty but I do not know if it is a host for the cats you want to attract. Cabbage has always equaled bugs in my garden so I gave up.
Thanks, Janice.
I am planting India Mustard (Florida Broad Leaf). These seeds are the only ones available at our local nursery. Brassica Nigra is a host for White Cabbage butterflies (I think) and those are not good for agriculture which is prevalent in Perris. I am trying to attract different species such as Desert Orange-Tipped Butterflies. There are many others that are less common in our area that I would like to attract.
Thanks again,
Chuck
