CLOSED: Friend or foe?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I usually just see one of these every summer but yesterday I saw 2 of them, one in the back yard and one in the front. I never see any damage around where they sit so I just leave them alone. But I do not want to be over run with grasshoppers if that is what it is.
THANKS

Looks a lot like a katydid. I saw one on my patio just a couple weeks ago.

I think you are so right. And it looks like they are not so bad to have if you only have a few. They are too big for me too kill so I guess we will co-exist for now.
Thanks!

Don't let one in your house, their singing will keep you up all night until you show them the door. Been there, done that. LOL

Oh what a thought. LOL

Kell,
I hear bugs are sluggish in the morning, I don't know if that's it or if katydids are just slow.
I can usually reach out with my pruning shears and cut them in half.
Ruthless I know, but they can really do a lot of damage.

Oh my Dovey. That must hurt. I can't kill something that big. The other day I saw one of these in the back yard then I saw one in the front yard about 5 minutes later. I sure hope I am not going to get a lot now.

Oh... you're just a softy aren't you?
They are amazing, and look like a beautiful green leaf, but they love the tender new canes on my roses and will chew right through one... next thing you know it's "timber" and my big healthy cane has been chomped down.

The birds come along and clean up the carnage

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh shoot, if they start eating thru my roses I may have to get a stiff upper lip. LOL. I was thinking I could share a few leaves or flowers but if they are going to be pigs about it, off with their heads. I will have to call my husband though to do the ghastly deed.

I am a softie except for snails and slugs. Squish squish squish!!
