pink lily of the valley

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

I have read that lily of the valley should be planted in early spring. But I ordered some with my peonies, and they arrived today. What will happen if I plant them now? Will they be okay?

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

they will grow !,
never heard that before .
I cant kill Them with Round Up very evasive here

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

They're evasive? They run and hide from you? I have this mental image of you stalking the wild lily of the valley with a bottle of Roundup. LOL!

Yes, I know you meant INvasive. I was just having fun.

If anybody wants to send me excess lily of the valley, I'll pay for postage. I love the flower. And I've never heard of them being invasive either in Illinois where I'm from, or here in Colorado.

I know just where I want to put there. Underneath my peach tree. They'll be shaded most of the day but will get some afternoon sun.

Beachwood, OH

Hi WH - Put them where you can enjoy them - the pink is quite pale in mine - really only noticeable if you know what you're looking at on the plant. Of course its nice to admire them in a little vase where you can get an up close look. I have pink ones from 2 different sources and one is truly pink every year and is in more direct light and sun, and the other stand is always in full shade and they are really more like a vanilla color - not white. I don't know if the light difference causes the color difference.

It kinda depends where u plant them. If you put them in shade in a perennial bed, you might regret that in a few years. Under a hedge with a border is a good place for them. I absolutely love them too. I got lots at IA RU last year and they multiplied quite well so LMK and I'll pack some off to you.

I find some people who love this just cannot succeed with it yet others who don't want it get a surfeit of it! Just shows you doesn't it! I love it and it does very well for me after a slow start. It does best in shaded positions but it does ok in dry soil or damp. I love to pick a posie and have it in teh house as the scent is fantastic. Good luck with yours.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Lily of the valley IS evasive!! lol Just when you think you've got them all cleaned out of a bed, the little buggers pop up from their hiding place where and when you least expect it. I do love them though.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I would like some for postage if somebody is cleaning their beds. thanks.

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

They are Beauteous Evasive Invasives.

I think everybody's happy now, including the little buggers. LOL

Hi, I packed up three boxes of Lily of the Valley. And now I just read that you were looking for pink LOTV? Sorry, all I have is white. Pls let me know if you would like me to send you a box. White_Hydrandea picks first, then vossner, then kareoke, if you are interested. :)

Box #1 - 6 LOTV pips, 1fernleaf dicentra, 1corydalis lutea
Box #2 - 6 LOTV pips, 1 'Pink Pewter' lamium
Box #3 - 6 LOTV pips, 1 'Chequers' lamium

I'll take what's inside Box #1, Monty.

Or am I showing my age here?

Thank you so much for doing this, Kooger. I was looking to get some dicentra as well at some point.

yipee, i'll take box #2. thank you so much

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I would take any LOL

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Great, I'll get them addressed and they'll go out on my lunch hour tmr. Pls send postage. Thanks! The plants were too large for a small box, didn't think I would need a flat rate box so I went with the flat reg. box. I hope I picked right.

I thought of the 'Door #?' when I posted that. LOL The dicentra(pink) and corydalis(yellow) grew side by side so you will have to tease them apart. They both volunteer profusely, especially the corydalis. 'Chequers' flowers are more mauve/violet, and volunteers up to 6-7 feet away. Not invasive tho. 'Pink Pewter' is, big surprise, pink! lol Both of mine are going to be moved. They are in a northside shade bed that stays wet unless we have a month of drought. They don't do well there. Too wet. My other lamiums are under a spruce tree and are doing far better. The dicentra and corydalis are in the same north bed and are doing absolutely fantastic. What I really like abt the dicentra is that they fill out so nice and stay that way all summer, they don't die down like the old-fashioned type. They are still blooming now. Mine is 4 years old now and abt 2.5 ft high and 3 ft wide. It's getting too large for the spot it's in. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Probably cut back the hydrangea. ha ha. The corydalis just started blooming again last week. I hope they all do well for you. :)
