Seed Collecting for this winter's WS Project?

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi, everybody--Just wondering and hoping--

is anyone trying to save seeds for our next wintersowing project? I'm pretty new at seeds and sowing, etc., etc., but it occurred to me that I should probably be saving some seeds from some of the plants I successfully wintersowed last season -- or even from those plants (gulp) that I had to buy from the nursery--

Anyway, I found this page on Trudi Davidoff's Wintersown Website that I found useful and I thought I would share it.

http://wintersown.org/wseo1/Specific_Varieties.html

And ask if anyone had other tips or stories on Seed Collecting from your garden or others' gardens for us newbies, and if you are saving seeds, what are you saving--

I'd love to know about them....

Thanks. t.

My WS verbena and I'm saving these seeds for sure!

The Seed Saving forum has lotz of info about saving seeds.About the only seeds I'm saving for WSing are marigolds and zinnia. Everything else I need for next year is too tender.

I am saving my tithonia, 4 o'clocks and cleome so far.

I'm saving everything I can get my paws on -- tonight was some heuchera (probably Palace Purple) from a Starbucks parking lot. Not sure I got enough for the whole gang, but definitely enough for me and some trades.

Anita, what variety of tithonia are you growning? I had some of the "wild" (read REALLY BIG) variety a couple of years ago, and I stored the seeds I collected wrong. Now all I can find is the "improved" short variety!

I'm growing Tithonia rotundifolia Arcadian Blend that I purchased from Thompson-Morgan. It will definitely be a repeat in next year's containers!

I went out today to the nursery that specializes in perennials and the sales woman said I could pick seed pods that I thought were ripe! I couldn't believe my good fortune but I wasn't prepared with labeling pens and envelopes so I stuck a few pods in my pockets...

Next time I'll go prepared!

Excellent! What a great idea.
