A guilty pleasure!

Yes, this is an invasive weed, but still I can't help enjoying the lovely berries Ameplopsis brevipedunculata produces. Guy, do you want me to send you some seed?

Your Acer and Carpinus will love you as the Ampelopsis strangles and smothers the life out of them.

I will spray it with Roundup tomorrow.

The berries are gorgeous in arrangements however.

No, thankee! I don't do many vines (except benign natives), especially invasive ones. If you want that kind of fruit on an aggressive plant, at least move up the food chain to Clerodendrum!

I have never seen this one before. I looked it up on PlantFiles and it doesn't sound too good.

I just spent most of the afternoon with a GPS helper locating individual trees in an extensive tree planting.

While he was taking tree positions, I was pulling innumerable seedlings of this species of Ampelopsis. Some seedling vines (newly deposited by birds this year) were completely covering specimens of Ilex verticillata, Aronia melanocarpa, and Viburnum x 'Conoy'.

Continued use of this plant in the midwest really ought to be terminated.

Which is a shame, because the only berries that come close to this kind of spectacular belong to Symplocos paniculata, which is big and unwieldy and terribly hard to find.
