Strage thing with Indica

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

These flowers are both on my indica. No chance they are strays. They are right on the vine. I guess it is a mutation of sorts. I over winter mine it isn't hardy here. I did use messenger for a while.

Ronnie - The first photo you have posted here

shows relatively smooth sepals that are consistent with Ipomoea indica...

The second photo you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/luvsgrtdanes_1156989826_493.jpg
shows hairy curly sepals, hairy stem and flowers that are totally Ipomoea hederacea

Sorry,no mutations...

Thanks Ron. I see that now, but I can't figure out how it got there!! I will take a closer look outside to see where it is coming from.

luvsgrtdanes-
I agree with Ron. I think it is Ipomoea hederacea, too. They are (in my opinion) even prettier than the Indica. Ü

They are one of the few (even though they are considered a "common" mg, and even a weed) mgs that I plant every year. I just love the color combo, and they are SO easy to grow.

luvs,

The color is spectacular. When you find what it is, can I have a couple of seeds for postage? It reminds me of baby shower colors! (not that I'm having any mind you..unless they are grandkids!)

I too, like it better, as seedpicker_TX does.

There is a (true) double red form of Ipomoea hederacea that occurs in South Central US,but it is rare(!)...Anybody got seeds(?)...

Hineni, I am sure I will get plenty of seeds.

Ron a true red!! One can only dream!!

....Ron, you are certainly an enabler! (as she adds one more elusive seed to her "MG's to find and grow" list.

On a lighter note, DH has caved and is now searching out trellises on sale to allow my MG's to grow in pots on trellises :) He came home with 5 the other day as a surprise.

I discovered by accident that MG vines will stay plump and transplantable by putting their roots in a pail of water. A couple that I put directly into potting soil promptly began to wilt, so I pulled them out of the dirt and put their roots in the water and they promptly came alive.

Tomorrow I am going to pot them up and try again :)

I hope I'm not making a nuisance out of myself since I posted this on another MG thread an hour ago or so - but I'm going to post this every time I see the word "mutation" written or implied.

A funnel within a funnel form created by spiraling has just appeared in one of my Hatsu Arashi vines and I would love to know how to save its pollen before it folds up. It's still open, but the sun just hit it, so I don't how much more time I have.

Hineni - thanks for the soaking roots in water during transplanting advice - very timely for me, too.

Ron, your solid-throated Scarlet O'Hara still hasn't bloomed yet. We have cut a monster crepe myrtle 'Natchez' back twice this year so SOS can get more sun, and DH is out there now hacking it back again - hurricane Ernest's water-logging powers has helped immensely.
