Here's another shot. Where's a place to start in insect identifiction? This is all new to me but interest in developing.

Your bug .. appears to be one of the Leaf Hoppers (or, leafhoppers).

There's a bunch of 'em ..

It looks like a Stink Bug of some sort, I have some similar but mine have red eyes!

This site has many, if you see one that seems to fit then do a general Google search for the family or genus, the Google Image search can also be useful to find other pics.

If you go to 'all galleries' at the top you will find all sorts of groups.

You could be right Magpye, the shape looked different to me, but looking again it might be longer rather than broad.

It was definitely longer than wider. I'm thinking leafhopper___ now to decide which one. It was on a rose___ does that probably mean rose leafhopper?

It's a bit difficult to tell for sure (on 'my' end) .. but I do believe that I detect some hint of the bluish lines visible .. in your photo, jamlover ..

IF .. you do recall seeing such .. (and if he was somewhat 'large') - your bug, could perhaps be the larger fella, in this image > http://bugguide.net/node/view/70510

They're also referred to .. as a Sharp Shooter(sharpshooter).

Gyponana geminata on the pbase link is a turquoise colour,

http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/48138056

I searched for Gyponana and found 2 that look a turquoise colour, the one in the middle top link is Gyponana delta, not a good pic

You might find it difficult to pin it down to an exact species

Sure looks like Gyponana geminata. I'm gling with that. Great, and I learned a few things about touring around the insect sites!!

I thought it looked right from the shape, green legs with beige ends, eye colour, hairy underneath.

I would go with that too.
