Coffee and ........for Monday, August 28th

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Best of the morning to you. I hope the weather and all else cooperate to make it a great day for one and all.

We came from over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/644324/

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Worm! Let me see, saute', boil, bake, nah, how about worm sushi?

Hope that started your day out right! LOL I'm heading for the shower but thought I'd check and see who up and see what Sarv is having for breakfast.
Hard to believe I was the last poster yesterday and the first one today, so I'm not going to hog any more space.

As they used to say back in the day, Write On. Oh, wait, it was Right On. Oh well, you know what I mean.

Morning everyone. Hit the hay at 8:30ish cause the hole was there, but was in bed wayyy too long and now my back is killing me!! LOL

M5- had a boring english muffin with raspberry jam and a DC. I am craving buttermilk biscuits, so I may make a tray tonight for tomorrows breakfast. yum Good luck whacking that little ball.

Maria, hope you are feeling a little better day by day. Did you call your daughter yet? If my mom didn't call me when she was feeling punk, I'd be royally ticked at her - now get that finger a dialing!!

defoe - hope you are enjoying your trip...is some gambling in the plans??? Would you believe on my last trip, several went to the casino and I didn't go with them...I had lost too much the last time I went. They all lost that night too....

McC - glad you made some cashola on the craft show. All that loading and unloading would poop me out! Hope DH feet are feeling better....

Carat- you don't think your ickies are from being allergic do ya? My neighbor was growing ragweed cause the foliage was so pretty. Send her DF to the doc cause he was so sick- yup- it was the ragweed! She got rid of it pronto...

Darius- glad to see that you found extra help - how nice for everyone. I think Brent is lucky to have found you... I see you got a lot of work done.(subfloor...) what progress!!

Well, I am getting my hair cut this morning and I need to try to repair my night in bed before I go (isn't that silly!!)

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning all.

Up, sort of dressed with coffee in hand. So I guess my day has started.

Maria hope you're feeling better Darius lol having told Brent a 65 yo could out nail him. What was his reaction ( besides trying to speed it up)? I say things like that to my 23yo son just to get a reaction. The looks he gets on his face are usually priceless.

Defoe -- hope you are having fun. I was in Vegas in 2003 and guess what? Never spent a nickel on gambling. I went in the casinos just to look around. They were usually too cold for me and I spent most of my time out on the sidawalks waiting for DH to come back out. Course with my sense of direction (not) I'd still be roaming around the Paris if DH hadn't known the way out.lol

Sarv you're getting a haircut too? Everybody is getting a hair do but me.........:( DH likes it the way it is and since he has to look at me I don't...........

Up for more coffee bbl.......

Hi Ya Everyone... I should already be out in the barn building walls by myself but I've been glued to watching Ernesto online and awaiting the 11 am update. I have 3 brothers & their families, 2 sisters & families, 2 elderly aunts and several cousins in the projected path plus many, many dear DG friends.

Actually I should be cleaning the mess in my kitchen from canning last night, and be hoping no one gives me any more tomatoes! Having said that, my own tomatoes will start ripening soon... There are enough tomato seeds in my compost pile to plant for a whole country, LOL. I started some butternut squash seeds last month and the vines are now about 10 feet long with LOTS of fruit. Never having grown them before, I'm not sure what to expect. Guess I need to ask on the Vegetable Forum.

When Brent's dad (Buster) was here yesterday to help the boys with my downed tree, he went down to my spring for water. Said he's been drinking out of that spring for more than 50 years and it's good water. In the spring house there are several spots on the concrete floor about 3 inches in diameter, tarry looking. He said it's probably muskrat or mink droppings, lots of them around here.

Buster also said, "Hmmmm, I think I need to come tomorrow and cut your grass or you will soon have to bale it." I hope he cuts it!

He needed a 10" chop saw blade which I just happened to have, so I gave it to him. He offered to buy it but how can you take money from a man that volunteers to help with a downed tree, or to cut my grass?

Happy Birthday Cece and Carat - where's the cake?? Is Maria feeling good enough to bake? I'll provide the ice cream - how does vanilla bean sound? Hope you both have a wonderful day and can do whatever you want!!

I'm back from the beauty salon!! Another good haircut, but not quite short enough -but I'll take care of that tomorrow when I wash it...LOL Garden Geek, are you lurking??

Darius- you can't take $$ from someone who is so helpful - especially if he cuts your grass too!! Sounds like you have wonderful neighbors by you - so lucky.... Ours are the greatest too and I could myself so lucky.

I feel better today and decided I will not be such a 'toad' anymore if I can help it. I think visiting the gorgeous new house, all the property etc brought out a nasty side to me. I try not to show that side to others, but DH is subject to it....

I'm making a big meat loaf, cheesy potatos and fresh maters for dinner - come on over- they'll be plenty!! I may call DS/DIL - today is their first day back to work and I know they will be pooped...

I'm off to clean just a little for now (cloudy here, so I feel industrious...0

Good morning. Two coffee gals having birthdays the same day! Happy Birthday and Happy Birthday!

Meezers, you are welcome to all the worm sushi you can handle. What a way to start the morning! Have fun wacking that little ball all around the big green pasture! Hubby and I have never played golf but both our sons think it is lots of fun.

I'm not even sorta dressed, haven't made the effort yet, so bathrobe and slippers, cup of tea and me. I'll get with it soon. By the time I do I might be asking "with what?"

Yesterday after church we went out to eat with our son and daughter in law, came home and took a nap, something I rarely do, but I think the combination of rich food and hot weather had teamed up to make me sleepy. Two hours later I woke up in the same position. Must have slept like a rock, and I slept pretty well last night as well, so I think the awake spaces in the past 2 or 3 nights sleep must have caught up with me.

No haircut here. Think of the money I've saved by not supporting my local beauty parlor. It would have been a lost cause anyhow, I am what I am and that's ok. I'd rather spend my money on other things. We all have our priorities.

Darius, funny on the comment to the young helper. I wonder if it will have a permanent effect. Do you have one of those pneumatic nailers for doing the framing of the walls? That really speeds up a job and the nails are in so quickly the board hardly moves. My job used to be holding down the other end of the 2/4 while hubby nailed the uprights to the horizontal ones. Great that you got another guy to work there, and I'm sure you are right about the other half of that tree needing to come down before it falls. Have you found somebody to remove the bees?

Elaine, you are likely to get a lot of rain if the storm we have been watching comes through northern Fla, and oh, how about Molly? I hope she got her leaking roof fixed. I need to go look at the weather channel to see what is happening this morning. Ernesto was downgraded to a tropical storm last night but they said it could be a hurricane again. Oh, and Molly, did you ever find the moth balls?

Last evening we were watching a coyote in our pasture. He was lazy, he laid down and didn't move until one of our horses walked past him, then he just got up and ambled away. When I was down there a couple of days ago I saw one that was in more of a hurry, so I guess horse scent without human scent makes for less urgency. From time to time we also see a fox hunting for mice, they really run when they see people, or even a car. And they behave differently when they are running. The coyotes run in a straight line often into the nearest cover and then will turn around and look when they think they are hidden, the foxes take off fast, run straight for a while then zig and zag and keep going until they are way out of sight. The one I scared up a few days ago ran straight for a patch of sagebrush and then went around it. A coyote would have gone into it.

It's time to get off my behind, feed the horses, wash some clothes and get them hung on the line, then take a ride on Patch before it gets hot. Back later.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mary, I do have a gas framing nailer and lots of nails (like 80 pounds) but no gas cannisters unpacked or found yet. My pneumatic nailer is just a finish nailer. Since I am going to build the walls by myself, I may have to go and buy some of the gas cannisters and charge the battery. Doubt my arm would hold up for the many nails required for the walls.

We used those coated nails (where the friction heats up the coating and glues it in) on the joists, bridging and sub-flooring.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHERIE AND CASEY!!! May you have many smiles today~~~~~~~~

I've been trying to get on for 2 hours. I have to call and see if my phone wire is too old to handle dsl properly.

Last night I was back in both my wrist braces. Helping DH throw off wood plus all my garden and canning stuff. He plans on hauling 2 more loads today. I know I shouldn't help but he does need the help. Maybe if I don't have to get on the trailer and throw -it won't be so bad? We'll see all I can do is try and take lots of pills.

Do you girls have anything exciting to do for your birthdays? Cherie wish you were having better weather but I know that won't slow you down. Keep us updated on your day.

M5 how was your game today?

MaryE that was interesting about the differences between the foxes and coyotes. The only time I've seen foxes they are walking on the road or out in the field and I've never seen a coyote.

sarv dinner sounds great!If you don't have a dessert I can bring an apple crisp. Just did up some more apples this morning and have some apples and plums cooking down together. Made some of that yesterday and it is so good. Don't know if I'm going to make plum jam or not.

Maria hope you are getting better. Take it easy and get lots of rest.

Darius glad you have another helper and that the tree didn't do any damage. What a shocker to walk out and see that. Those squash sure are growing fast.Must be perfect growing conditions and soil for them.

Have to see how the plums and apples are doing. bbl

Almost forgot--Glad to have an update on twyla. Tell her goodluck and to take care. We are thinking of her.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh my gosh, we are finally getting rain here....and its only 75 degrees..I would like to think this will last a week or so, but I think one day is all we will get. I am not complaining, one day is more than we have had since April..

Was suppose to have the foundation repairs started today but they showed up and said they would be back tomorrow to start..fine with me, I would rather have the rain today..

Kris

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning/Afternoon, wherever, whatever it might be,

I have been up early as is usual. Got a box packed and went to the post office. Hung out at the hardware store in town (Archer). Got Art to sell me seed packets for 10 cents a piece. He's also going to complain about the inaction of the company to send my replacement parts for my garden cart axle and wheel.

I was so looking for some starts for cold weather veggies. The grower is about 3-4 weeks behind so I have to start my own. Went to Bronson and got some more seeds.

The corn, lima beans, peas, and carrots have all germinated in less than a week. I was so excited, after talking to Darius on the phone, I decided to get some squash, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and other seeds to get them in before too long. Based on that decision I had to buy some more top soil and stinky dirt. When Jeremy comes home t oday I have the jobs all worked out for him to get to.

I sealed the roof, it was good for a couple light rains. Friday it rained for most of the day and the roof was back to leaking. Since Jeremy was gone, I had to climb up and put the tarp back up there. I have to do some more thinking on that repair.

In the meantime, if Ernesto decides to come over this way, I can get my insurance company to give me a new roof. No doubt a storm would really do some damage.

Well, I have about 40 seed packs to sort, sow or store. Getting to it now.

Happy Birthday Cherie and Casey, have wonderful days and lots of smiles and love.

Molly

Carat, haven't seen you much on the other thread, so hope you don't mind me poppin in to say Happy Birthday. I read daily, but don't usually post.

CeCe wishing you a Happy birthday also.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Thanks so much everyone.Worm sushi, I am so glad that I took the day off and slept through breakfast. OH YUCKY

Cece, Happiest of all days to you today. Las Vegas has two types of weather. Hot and then HOTTER. Not a cloud in the sky. Its 9:45am and already 103 outside. Expecting 108 for the high today. I think it will be closer to 112.

I am going to go check out a few Big Lots stores for their seed sale. Here they are 10 cents a pack and a couple even do the penny a pack if they have alot and need to get rid of them.
Then I am going to start working on the antique dresser that I am turning into a wine rack. It has seen much better days and its missing two drawers.
That is the extent of my energy output of the day. I may put some extra time into getting ready for going out to Lawry's for dinner cause I dont see DH getting the oven cleaned and the pot roast I asked for finish in a 3 hour span.

I ate the red meat and still have a headache. So I know it wasn't that. I am thinking it could be an allergy but I dont think its ragweed. It is at its worst when I first wake up or when I am outside in the back yard after the sun goes down. I went for a walk yesterday around the area and didn't see any ragweed in anyones yard. In fact I really haven't seen much of it around the valley at all. We had a very dry spring and even the worst of yards are just dirt. No water, no life. Only have had a quarter of an inch of rain so far this year here and that was in Feb.

Meez, hope you had a great day of golf.

All those in the area of Ernesto's path PLEASE dont take a chance. I have a close friend that lost his entire family in Wilma. He is packing up and leaving today to another friends house in upper Georgia.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes. I better get my butt up and dressed if I want to get out of this house.

BBL Casey

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm home and about to run out again. Game was fun, the two women I play with are like me, not too serious about the game, just want to have a good time and be outdoors. We beat the rain. We're playing again Wednesday, but I had to opt out on league Friday because my DS will be here.

Going to make a run to my favorit fruit/veggie market, fresh sweet ripe peaches in from Idaho, and I need to have them! The ones I picked up earlier weren't nice at all. Then it's jam time. Got jars in the dishwasher.

Ves, yum apples and plums!! Love apple crisp.

Happy day to the birthday girls, treat yourselves to some thing nice and enjoy the day.

Darius, you picked good neighbors! You'll be so happy when you get all your things out of storage and can find what you need when you need it. Floor looks good to me. Butternut squash is great, and keeps well. Grew some a couple years ago and they kept nicely all winter.

Sarv, I've found the best way to get out of a yucky mood is to do something for someone else...and inviting the kids for a tasty meal sounds like just the thing. Guess somebody did up the dishes, huh?

Mary I haven't seen a coyote around here but I understand that there are some. Haven't seen a fox for quite a while, we used to have one that visited when we lived uphill from a river about twenty years ago. I used to put scraps out for him, because he had been injured, had an eye wound and was limping. When he healed up, he disappeared, so maybe he didn't need the free lunch anymore. I hope.

Carat, while my DS and DDIL were on vacation I yanked up two big ragweeds out of one of their flower beds. I don't know if she thought it was a real flower, but she has allergies to many plants, and didn't need that growing by her back door! Air here has been awful with all the humidity, I can't be out for long before I'm hacking or dripping or itching. Not that it keeps me inside........some people have no sense at all.

See y'all later

Senseless

Ragweed um........I have no idea what that even looks like. While at the state fair I listened to a talk by Melinda Meyers. She was saying that Goldenrod gets a bad rap as far as allergies and its uaually always because ragweed is growing with it but its the golden rods that is showy and that is what people blame. Is there a weed forum? Must go look.

Happy Birthday to the birthday girls. dixie

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

It's raining here, so I had to come inside. I decided a couple of things today: One, get my rump up and quit feeling sorry for myself....called son, but they have plans tonight, so dinner will just be DH and myself.

Number two- hopped on the scale and faced the music...not too bad considering....am starting to watch it today- did have ice cream for lunch, but only a cone. I refuse to deprive myself!! Life is too short.

Number three- accompolish at least one job per day - today I washed 8 windows, now stop all that clapping - I only did the outside. LOL - insides were fine from this spring. If I am really ambitious I will tackle more of the mini blinds.....now maybe on this...

M5- I did the dishes....no rest for the wicked...

Molly, that's one way to get a new roof, just don't want to hear of you flying thru the air!! I keep watching the weather channel...you'd think I was in the path!

(clapping) for Earth's rain - yahoo....hope you get a soaker...

Can't wait to hear what fun the birthday girls have......

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Cece,

I probably will rile someone up for saying this, but the "weed" forum is called "Indigenous" form.

Getting the rest of my veggie seeds planted today. Jeremy is home hauling bags of amendments right now.

I'm soaking my corroded salt grinder in vinegar. A week in water didn't do the job. Anyone have a better idea?

The bomb site in my kitchen is taking shape, just the glass baking dish used for roasted tomatoes, and my big canner to go. No doubt I will start canning again with more mess soon, LOL. I have a full washer load of just cloths from the kitchen!

My dear neighbor (my helper boy's father) spent nearly 3 hours mowing for me today, no charge. Have to do something good in return. I'm thinking to start making bread again. Who can resist the smell and taste of freshly baked bread? Just have to find the box with my bread pans. (and Time!)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Here's a chuckle for the day...

Quoting:
My husband and I were given a lovely silver candle snuffer for a wedding
gift, by a dear family friend. At my wedding shower, which Mrs. M. hosted,
she told a story about having given one to a friend's daughter. It seems
the young bride-to-be had never heard of a candle snuffer, and in her
sweet and thoughtful thank you note, she wrote:

'Dear Mrs. M, thank you SO much for the darling little gravy dipper!'

Toooo cute, Darius! When you get things straightened up, I'll take a loaf of that bread.
Quoted

"Who can resist the smell and taste of freshly baked bread?"
:-)

As for me, I've gotten absolutely nothing done today ... been playing and will admit it here but Shhhh cause I ain't agonna own up to it to the DH when he gets home! LOL

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL Hope she wasn't serving her gravy in a thunder mug!!

Back from fetching peaches. They are luscious and large but not quite ripe. Have to wait 'til maybe Wednesday to use them.

When I went into the garage to pull the car out, there on the floor, right where I would have to drive, was this little fellow. Wet and bedraggled, and seemed a little stunned. I hated to take him out of the dry garage, but I was afraid if I left him inside he would become frightened and perhaps try to fly out through the glass. Put on gloves and scooped him up and took him out to a dry area under the deck overhang. Set him (her?) down and left. Checked all around when I came home, but he must have dried out enough to fly away. That's a thistle seed stuck near his beak. I marvel at birds, there's so little substance to them, I could hardly feel his weight in my hand, and look how beautiful he is.

Need to go put on dry socks....raining pretty hard again.

Awwww, Sheila. He (she) is so cute. I'd say He from the coloration. How did he get into thew garage?

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

The big automatic door was wide open, as I was not going to be home for long. He was about three feet inside, and I couldn't move my car without the wheels getting too close to him. Then I thought I'd better get him back outside so he could dry off and get his wits about him. At first I thought it was a dumb baby, but it looks the same size as the other finches that come to get thistle seeds from the feeder. I was so tickled to be able to get so close to take a picture.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Aren't gold finches gorgeous? They are so bright and cheery.

Tackled the laundry monster today. 2 loads down and 1 to go. Have 2 canners going with plum-apple sauce[butter] pint and half pint size. Did 3 qts. yesterday. Have another bucket of apples to do.Still debating on more sauce or to make jam. I bought pectin so almost feel I have to make jam.

Dh was home with his load of wood. I unloaded differently and my arms feel better. I can't do as much that way but it is some help for him. He went back up to finish getting wood at his brothers place. Then that spot is done. hopefully he sells some of it. It's alot of wood.

Just emptied the canners. Listening to all the lids pop. That is such a satisfying sound.
It's like someone telling you"a job well done"

Like you Darius I'm looking at the mess in my kitchen. I think cleanup is the worst part of this. But looks so goooood when done!!!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Meat loaf in the oven along with cheesey potatoes - I'll take one of Darius' loaves of bread- that would top off a wonderful meal!!

Just before everything is done I am going to mix up some banana bread. Two nannas that are pretty brown! The last few DH threw in the compost pile before I could make anything.

Oh, I'll take some wood! We are down to one cord and that certainly won't heat our house this winter. This is the first time in years that we don't have any wood. And wouldn't you know it is when the gas prices are outta sight. But I'm thinking maybe with my allergies it might be a good thing in disguise.

Plum-apple sauce/butter sure does sound good!!

M5- glad the finch could get his wits and fly away. Poor little thing...

Mary, I have to have my hair cut. It is so thin that I would look totally stupid with long hair. At least with it short, I can fluff it up some and look half way decent. It kills me to pay the prices, but the gal I go to has become a good friend, so I look at it like giving $ to a friend... I do highlight it myself tho to save some $$.

Well, the rain is blowing in the windows, so I need to close a few and get some warmer clothes on!! Fall is on its way!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Hey Birthday girls you share this day with Shania Twain[41] and Leann Rhim[Sp]24. DH told me this when he was home.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday to CeCe and Casey!! Hope you are both having a great day.

Casey - I need to d-mail you soon about my trip to Vegas. I can't believe it will be here soon!

Sarv - I hate when I get in a funk. Hope you are starting to feel better.

Darius - You have been so fortunate with getting helpers. Sound like Brent comes from a good family.

M5 - What a cute little bird. Look really fat compared to the goldfinches I see here. We had a Mourning Dove that was injured yesterday. DH saved it from Mandy. She wasn't too happy about it either.

Can't remember what I have read this morning. Sorry to those I'm missing. Almost done work for today. Looked like we might get more rain tonight. It rained off and on all weekend. VERY humid too.

~~~~~to everyone.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
M5, good work with the American Goldfinch!
I've been through 15 kitchen boxes and haven't found my bread loaf pans. Drats. Sure wish I could unpack and store my kitchen stuff but I need to make cabinets to fit.
Brent was here at my insistence (even though he had a bad headache) to get up the tools left outside yesterday. Later, he planted the new raspberry bushes I got after the one's Kooger sent to me. MAYBE next year I won't have to buy raspberries!
Sarv, I want at least 3 cords of wood and have some very dry wood promised. That makes me laugh because I don't even know if my woodstove will work in this chimney without altercation. It needs an 8" pipe to draw correctly and I haven't been on the roof to peek down the chimney. Guess that's one more thing I need to hire. Rats.
I haven't made a meatloaf in ages, sounds good right now!
Leftovers coming up and I'll BBL
Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)
Meezer, what a beautiful little bird. Seems to me it is our State Bird. Love to see them flitting around the thistles.
Sarv, tell me about 'cheesy potatoes'. Sounds good, and might go with a special dinner tonight. Found a 1.4 lb. top sirloin steak marked down today which is plenty for the two of us. Then white corn on the cob, sautéed portobello mushroom & onions, sliced tomato & avocado with gruyere cheese and maybe cheesy potatoes ? (ice cream with peach sauce too ?)
Formed and poured part of the retaining strip for the little p[pathway behind the raised bed. Also dug out a 12 foot long trench along the side of the shed to expose what appeared to be a rotted sill. Luckily it was just some cedar and the pressure treated wood was OK. Had to replace the cedar with an eight inch wide piece of treated plywood. Now a 2' by 24' strip has to be dug out and retaining structure put in, along with gutters, to prevent future drainage problems. Oopsie, sorry, sometimes I forget this not a thread for home improvement as such, but it seems that's about all I do.
Carat, 103° before 10:00, and 112° in the afternoon ! How can anyone possibly do anything in that heat ? Hope your headache is better.
Darius, I'm amazed at all you have gotten done. I hope this place will be a permanent home for you. The spring and springhouse conjure up visions of a big stone house with stone shelves and a basin and lots of dairy stuff. With the young men and dad to help you should be able to get everything ship shape before your sis moves in. It is a beautiful place.
Thumbnail by balvenie
Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)
Darius, what a sweet man of a neighor you have. I guess we know where Brent got his helpful personality from.
Meezer what a beautiful bird. We dont get any birds with bright colors here. I do see alot of blue birds, cardinals and another black with a little on the chest yellow chest in SC.
Ves, I may share my birthday with them but I sure dont share their talent. I could make a hyena (sp?) run for cover. Thanks for the birthday wishes.
Suzie, thanks also for the birthday wish. Dmail me with all the details so I can be sure to blank out a day for you. Anything special you would like to see or do and not sure about let me know I will check it out.
DH is home and the oven is clean. He called DS while I was out and had him spray the oven cleaner in it so all he had to do was wipe it out. Lucky him. Dinner is almost ready to head into the oven.
Hope all are having a wonderful day.
Elaine, I really enjoyed talking with you today. You are so sweet.
Hi Casy ... am ~at ya! Same back!
Y'all ... I've posted over in the recipes and *really* need help tonight. It's getting late, so please go over and check it out. I need a nifty new idea. Am tired of the same ole ssame ole. :-(
Thanks!
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Rocky road ice cream anyone? I just had a bowl of it to cool myself off and now am having a cup of tea with honey in it. That outta get me going again. I made Patch climb a lot of hills in preparation for the ride this coming weekend. Tomorrow I need to go do the same with Breezy, but will get an earlier start because I did all the laundry this morning. The first load was dry by the time I hung up the second one, which was almost dry when I hung up the 3rd load. I don't think anybody could find a molecule of moisture on them today, it is almost 90 with a wind of about 15mph gusting to 25.
Darius, make a loaf in a round casserole dish. I have done that. Cut an x in the top just before you put it in the oven. Or you can make several small loaves in other baking pans. Just because it is bread it doesn't have to be baked in a bread pan. You sure do have nice neighbors and that is a blessing.You're right, take good care of those folks.
I found my jar of root tone so this evening I'll pot up those broken mum stems. Also, I have a top heavy Dracena plant on the porch that keeps blowing over in the wind, it is laying on it's side again now and I just watered it this morning so the pot would have been heavy. It just needs a larger pot. I looked around in my garden shed and found one that still had the thrift store sticker on it, 95cents. It's a plastic one with it's own saucer, one that would sell for about $8 if my memory is right.
Meezer, good bird rescue today. We have those gold finches here, that one is a male, the females are sort of a dull brownish yellow and not too interesting. I wonder what happened to him? We put up a thistle feeder last winter when I didn't think there were any gold finches around and in a couple of weeks there were half a dozen of them. By mid June they weren't eating at the feeder anymore so it came down, but maybe it is time to put it up again and see what happens.
Cheezy potatoes sounds good, Sarv, so come on, lets have the recipe. I'm glad you have decided to take some positive steps to get out of that funk. My hubby calls that a personal pity party. You got a lot done today. When I make a list of stuff to do, I start with the worst job, and when that is done the next job doesn't sound so bad. When you are finished with your windows you are welcome to come over and do mine, see the west and all that.
Somebody is cooking plums and apples together, yummmm! I never thought of combining them.
AmandaPanda is catching big game these days. Today her catch was a 3 inch long grasshopper! Oh my, she has fun outside with all those bugs hopping around. I brought her inside one evening when there were 2 hummingbird moths working on the phlox, I don't want them to get caught.
Ok, got to get busy, hubby will be home soon and hungry. ~~~ to everyone I missed.
I put the bird right near the feeder with the thistle seed in it, in case he needed a navigation point. We get lots of them all summer long, and they can empty that feeder in nothing flat. I figured he must have gotten stunned somehow, because he was very calm when I picked him up. If I could have figured out a way to dry him without sending him into cardiac arrest I would have so I tried the next best thing. I didn't name him in case he didn't make it.
Darius, I've put bread in a round shape on a cookie sheet, can you find your silpats? Warm bread doesn't agree with me, but I eat it anyway.
We had leftover potato salad, small tenderloin filets, and fresh corn on the cob for dinner. No dessert. Yet. But there's ice cream.......
I think I have sacrificed my new chair. If I'm not in it, it's immediately occupied. If I try to eject the occupants, I get the most pitiful looks, and they go completely limp so it's like picking up Jello. Fine. I'll just go sit somewhere else.
Saying good night early, so I can check out some other threads, probably go to bed early too. Rainy weather is good for sleeping.
Whew, I'm stuffed thanks to Casy ... loved the recipe but what the heck ... I'm taking a bowl of that icecream cause it sure sounds good to me. Thanks Mary! It's been a while since I've had some. Oh gosh, was that only Sunday? Oh well ... a girl's gotta do what a
girl's gotta do! LOL
Bal, I just love hearing what all you accomplish. That's what coffee is all about. :-) It never ceases to amaze me the projects you and Ernie accomplish. Speaking of which ... where in the heck has he been lately? And what about oz? Have we scared y'all off with all our male bashing lately? ;)
ves, I know what you mean about hearing all those lids popping when you're done with all that work. :-) Although I haven't done any canning lately, I've done my share and it's certainly a rewarding thing to know that everything has sealed and turned out ok. Ooooh, that sure sounds good to me.
sarv, my hair is fine and limp also, so have to wear mine short and put that gunk in it to give it body when I blow dry it. Man oh man is it hard to work with. If you cut it too short ... makes you look bald. :-( If you let it get toooo long ... makes it look stringy. Yuck! *sigh*
We've been outside listening to the owls. Wish I could capture it and post it on the thread somehow. It's a very haunting sound but awesome.
Well, think I'll go get comfy. You never know ... I might be back. Am waving at everyone just in case I don't make it.
Meezer, Laughed a good one over the babies in the chair. They look so uncomfortable. LOL My animals turn into cement and get heavier when I try to move them from my spot.
Mary, I love Rocky Road Ice Cream. Only a little bit for me though. I need to fit into these work clothes for another 5 months and then I can get fat. LOL
Cheesy taters???? Waiting for recipe...... Impatiently....... Tap Tap Tap Tap........
Elaine, you are so very welcome......The first time I ever heard an owl was on my first visit to SC. Kind of freaked me out at first because he was in the tree about 30 ft from us. Oh and I have baby fine hair and it grows so
S L O W . I have started using Sunsilk lifter for fine limp hair and it really helps alot.
I have never canned before but am looking forward to learning how from Darius. Already told DH I was going to be taking a weekend trip to go to canning class with her. LOL
OH, guess what I got for my birthday. Flowers??? yes, and they are beautiful. Jewelry, yes. A beautiful Brighton watch braclet. But the best thing, my wonderful daughter and husband gave me gift cards for Lowe's and Home Depot. My son gave me a gift certificate for Brecks bulbs. Oh am I going to be shopping in Spring.
Well time for bed. Thank you all for the wishes both here and on the phone. You all are the best. I feel very blessed to have you all in my life.
