My mom isn't a member but asked me a question I can't answer. She has a bunch of day lillies planted in an east facing, full sun bed. They did well there this first year. She's never had lillies before and she's asking me how she's supposed to winter them...cut back? Not cut back? Covered? Uncovered? Dug up and moved around? Left in peace? I don't know why she's asking me all of a sudden, I'm the Black Thumb of Death. I'm just hoping to absorb some non-killing vibes from you smarties. : )
Any advice will be greatly appreciated by me, my Mom, and her lillies. Thanks!
Lillies and the autumn
Daylilies are hemerocalis but there's a bunch of lily folks that are even bigger 'hemheads' so hopefully they'll see your question. I only have 8 and I do nothing but weed and water them. :)
I have many daylilies and I find them the easiest of all to grow. One of my favorite sources says it better than I. I don't fertilize at all, but compost is most helpful, no matter what you are growing.

I don't do anything special to overwinter my daylilies - just a little mulch. They do fine on their own.

Thanks, everybody. I passed all this along to my Mom, she was very grateful.
