CLOSED: Yellow butterfly?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Looks like a Monarch, but it's a very bright lemon-y yellow.

I'm pretty sure it's a Tiger Swallowtail. They're often missing one or both tails from damage. I always wonder if a bird had a near miss when I see this. I've been trying to get good pictures of swallowtails all week, but most of them are a little torn up

Here's a tiger swallowtail for comparison.

See? It's missing one of its tails, too.

I think you're right! Thank you!!!

Hmmm, I don't have the best camera, but is this the same? And are the tails intact? I'm not confident in what I'm seeing.

Lovely butterflies, though. And huge.

Yes, it's the same kind. Looks like it's missing part of the tails, but I can see little "tags" hanging down.

Here's a close-up so that you can see how the tail extends from the end of the wing.

That one wasn't very clear, but here's another one showing the "tails".

The second one is a dark tiger swallowtail. I learned from fellow DG-ers that the tiger has both light (like the one you photographed) and dark morphs.

Hope this helps!
