Let me Introduce Myself...

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hello everyone, my name is Brittany and I've been a long time lover of Plumeria... I finally subscribed today after who knows how long and the benefit of that is that I can finally view all of your lovely pictures and chat with you... I hope that I can bring something to the table here, although you are all plumeria experts... I've been hanging out mostly on the Southwestern forum, converting everyone there over to plumerias... lol... Hope to get to know all of you :)

Welcome to Dave's and to the Plumie Forum, Brittany! I'm sure you will fit right in with our plumie family here:-) We all learn from each other as we are all in different growing climates, and there are many different ways to do the same things so don't hesitate to share your methods with us, and we will do the same! Welcome!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Welcome Brittany and I love your picture!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Thanks guys... and I'm glad you like my picture, it was the only unusual one I could find on short notice :)... I was also surprised that plumeria grow in Phoenix, and once I figured that out my collection grew exponentially... of course... there's even a Valley of the Sun Plumeria Society here... shocking, and wonderful... glad to meet you all... all add whatever input I can involving my hot, dry climate :)

Brittany, Dete is a member here and a grower and lover of plumeria. He's in Tucson.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Detrick's a great friend of mine... I actually had lunch with him today, he came up into town... he's also in the running to photograph my wedding... small world :) although it doesn't surprise me that he lurks around here as well... lol...
Brittany

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL! Dete is a great guy with a very scientific mind and a terrific grower.

Tucson, AZ

ladies, you're making me blush. haha!

thanks for the invite clare. i look forward to participating in the group.

nice to see you here brittany. i'm trying to hold back on posting the photo of you from "great singapore plumie massacre." LOL just kidding folks. brittany would never harm any plumeria.

i heard scott just joined. what a small world.

Hi Dete and welcome (again) to the Plumie Forum! Actually, I kind of forced Scott to join -- I gave him a one year subscription -- but he's sick right now so he hasn't posted except once on his "Welcome" thread. He's so busy right now anyway that he may not have much time for reading and posting. I hope he will join us at least once in a while though. His overwintering skills are admirable among other things.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

D, I didn't massacre anything... or should I say "The Sultan"... we can go there too you know... lol... go ahead post what you want...

oh yeah. okay, retreating back under the rock. haha! my aztec gold will bloom soon. i'm very excited!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

LOL... I love the Aztec Gold... I wish mine had smelled more this year... I'm starting to think that it's a seedling which would explain why it wasn't 100% the right color, or the strongest smell for that matter... you'll have to take pictures when it does... and just so you know, I thought that picture you took of me looked really good :)
Brittany

Tucson, AZ

do i get the job. LOL i'll be putting together some samples for you. you don't need to see a whole wedding do you?

sorry for the OT.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I don't care, you're fine... no, I don't need to see a whole wedding... just an idea of your format and composition...
Brittany

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Brittany and Dete, no need to apologize for OT here. This is your thread so you make it about whatever you wish:-) Now, who's got the dirt on whom and where are these pictures? LOL!

You know, I think there is a theory or two being circulated that there is more than one 'Aztec Gold.' It's quite possible that some seedlings of 'Aztec Gold' are being circulated as 'Aztec Gold.' For example, some 'Aztec Gold's' have an upright growth habit, and others have a weeping growth habit. The real 'Aztec Gold' is supposed to have a thick pink stripe on the buds and back of the petals, but I've seen pics posted by people with no pink stripe at all. I think there could definitely be some imposters being circulated.

thanks for the assurance clare.

that must be one of your beauties. always like seeing your pics. they did get me through the winter. LOL

i heard that aztec gold was found south of the border along the rio grande. do you know anything about its origin?

i think the "official" aztec gold cultivar has to have the pink stripe on the back of the petal. then comes the different variations in growth habits.

aztec gold is definitely one of my favorites. simple and sturdy. the fragrance is out of this world.

pssst... the pictures are over on the southwest side at the Royal Palms... :)... oh darn, I wasn't supposed to share that... hehehe... I definitely think mine is an imposter... didn't really have the band on the back...

Thanks for the compliment, Dete! I don't know anything about 'Aztec Gold's' origins, but it wouldn't surprize me if it came from Mexico. There has been some debate here recently about whether it is a Florida native or not. Robert has taken pictures of a plumie called 'South Florida Gold' or 'Key West Yellow,' which some thought was the same as 'Aztec Gold,' but I don't think it is the same cultivar. Yes, I agree that the thick pink stripe is a defining characteristic of 'Aztec Gold.' You know, maybe my 'Aztec Gold' was the imposter. It didn't have much of a fragrance, and so I sold it, but I have another from a different source so I'll compare the fragrance when it blooms next.

Interesting... new thoughts I haven't heard of before...

What Clare is talking about is, i have several trees we grow down here call "South Florida Gold" or "Aztec Gold".

and the wide version

Here are the shot of the flowers..

You can prune the wide version to grow upwards tho...
On a side note my dad planted a "South Florida Gold" in 1950's in our old yard so
where they came from is a mystery.
Both these trees have a very strong peach scent and i mean strong sweet smell :)
My all time fav tree hands down...

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Robert, I see a thick pink stripe on the back of the petals on those buds. A strong peach fragrance would seem to indicate the real "Aztec Gold," a.k.a. "South Florida Gold."

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Shes a beauty Robert!
Ive had AG for 2 years now and still no blooms lol!!
She grows so fast I had to cut 16 inches off both branches
I grafted the tips back onto the base of the branches I cut
AG anyone? LOL!!

That tree is beautiful! I would give anything to be able to have something like that in my yard. Unfortunately the cold weather is toatally against that idea. I am glad I have plenty of room in the garage and atrium in the winter for lots of pots. Please feel free to add any pictures of complete plumeria trees. I love seeing the flowers...don't get me wrong but I really ejnoy seeing the whole tree. Trees like that just don't grow here. I can't wait to see how large I can manage to grow one.... that is, if I can get a cutting to root.

thanks for the pictures!

Hello and welcome Brittany, glad you found us and are joining in on our mutual addiction.

I have Aztec Gold, it is my best scented plumie *fresh ripe peaches - strong scent* and a good strong grower. If I had to choose just one, this would be it with Kimo coming up strong behind it.

Tucson, AZ

same here mzmunchken. although, not sure which one would be runner up.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I'm jealous of you all... I need to smell a REAL aztec gold... I want to smell the peaches...
Brittany

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Brittany.. I'll be happy to whack off a piece of mine when I dig them up next month for the winter.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Trish is so nice:-)

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, until you have some blooms so you can smell the peaches, do what I do... buy a bottle of the walmart "Sams" flavored water... peach flavor, open and smell. I am sure it won't be the same but you can get a "peach fix" any time you like and drink it too. LOL I love the smell of peaches.

LOL... worth a try... and, MzMunchken Oh My Goodness... seriously?? You are soooo sweet and extremely generous... Once some of my more desireable plumeria grow big enough to trim I'll be more than happy to share :)

MzMunchkin,
The seeds you shared with me are doing quite well.
They are healthy lil baby plumies about 6 inches tall and quite happy as they should be.
