Congratulation on your beautiful plants.

Jamie and Susan, I was thinking the same thing! The obovata leaves are beautiful. Way to grow, Karen! You must show us the mother plant!

Glad you liked them, Jaimee!

I don't know if this is the same thing, but I grow my obovata in really high light/direct sun, and the new growth starts out speckled like those in your photo, and remains that way even when it is brought inside for winter.

I just got a huge box from Diane L. in Louisiana, containing nice big cuttings of:

H. kerii variegated
H. PNG-4
H. serpens
H. bella + bella variegated
H. australis variegated
H. Deykei
H. pottsii
H. globulosa

Wow! What a haul! And so nicely grown- very plump leaves on everything. Funny, despite having a decent collection, I've never gotten around to getting a bella. Here it is!
Thank you so much Diane, they are really lovely. I'm especially excited about the PNG-4!

New Iberia, LA

So Glad you like them Mark...This is my first year for bella too..Shirley sent me sum cuttings that rooted so fast.... so far everyone's getting sum nice hauls....Caring is sharing(quoted from Barney) LOL

Dianne

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

FYI Dianne and Mark....PNG-1 AND PNG-4 have been determined to be H. lamingtoniae...same species just slightly different clones. Both you guys sure had generous 'swappers'. ..it is so much fun to read the swaps and feel the excitement.

New Iberia, LA

Oh well I bought it from a grower that called it PNG 4 hmmmmm I will have to tell her to correct her names......

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

I had posted this information on the other thread, All done with swap names, but will post here as well.

I received nice healthy cuttings of H. carnosa 'Marlea' which were rooted and H. pubicalyx from mommum (Bea) today.

Thanks, Bea. You did one heck of a job packing them. I like to have never got that box opened. :)

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Wow, Cicada...a box from Canada!!! Super for you. 'Marlea'is supposed to be a really neat hoya cultivar...not in my collection, that's for sure! Terrific!

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

Carol,
Yes, a nice package from a resident of Canada, but she shipped it from Washington.

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Cicada so glad you liked them. My hubby did the packing with what we could find, from our trailer as we were camping in WA. I think he used soda pop cases, several to make it sturdy hehe When your camping you don't have a lot of things available. We did have lots of tape as you could tell. I sure am glad I took them with me as your postal is so much faster than ours. I just wished I would have had more to share but my other plants are litterly cuttings I rooted only a couple months ago.

Bea

And I got my package today!! From DonM47, I got H.Patella and H.sp.Tanna, neither of which I have by the way! I'm definitely doing the WooHoo! happy dance here!!! Thank you so much Don!!

My package will be mailed out on Monday, as I got a bit derailed this week with family stuff going on. On my way out of town, but will post a picture when I get back on Sat.

Happy dance, glee glee - I got mine today. Thanks so much to Sara (green971) for the generous and very healthy cuttings of lacunosa "lankawi island," multiflora, kentiana, aff. carnosa and HSI 037!! And, bonus, I also got several cuttings of dischidia ruscifolia!!! AND, DOUBLE bonus, I got an epi cutting!! Thanks soooo much, Sara!! This was fun! Karen

San Francisco, CA

Christine, those are two of my favorites. Patella and sp. Tanna island have such perfect flowers.

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Karen, I am so glad that everything made it safe and healthy. This was my first time shipping any plants or cuttings, thanks to Carol and Marcy for their excellent packaging demonstrations! This really is fun, I am not sure which I had more anticipation for, my package to get to Karen, or my package of cuttings. Still waiting for my surprise, feeling like a kid at Christmas....HA.

So glad you are happy with your swap, Christine. It was my pleasure. Wish I could have sent more plants, so that's why I sent the pots too.

Good Luck with them!

I forgot ot mention in my above post that Dianne actually sent the bellas and the serpens sealed in a big zip-lock bag with about a cup of water inside! They arrived looking perfect. I was going to ask about putting cuttings in airtight bags before I shipped mine, but didn't have a chance. I though the air pressure in a plane might make the bag explode or something, but they were fine.

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

I got home from being out of town to have my 10-year-old walk up with a box, "You got a package Mommy". My frantic answer? "WHEN DID IT COME???" "Just today". YAYYAYYAYYA!!!!!! My Hoya buddy Cicada sent me cuttings that I do NOT even have yet! (how did she know...? [eerie music]) Thanks so much! They look great! And they are all incredible plants I love them, thank you!

H. multiflora
H. pubicalyx 'Red Buttons'
H. polyneura
H. chlorantha
H. diptera (?) (I'll know when it blooms!)
H. cumingiana
Dischidia noid (my first Dischidia!)

Sounds like an awesome swap. I'm feeling a little jealous.....

Groove on!!

This is exciting, and you all have received great gifts!

Mine's going out Monday, and I will do my best to make up for the delay.

Philomath, OR

I shipped mine out yesterday! So-n-so should get it by Monday. I sure hope there is something in there that they don't have. -joanne

Ottawa, ON

This does sound like a ton of fun!! I need to increase my hoya collection so I can play next year. I only have one beloved hoya right now, and probably a common one, but I absolutely love it! I would have felt bad sending only one hoya cutting.

I can't wait to hear what everyone else received.

Kat, you have Dmail. -joanne

Long Beach, CA

Yeah....I got my box of beauties today from Jaimee.
She sent me H. sp. IML 1420, H. australis Tenuipes, H. purpureo-fusca,
H. motoski, and a big gob of rooted dischidia Pectinoides (the motoski already had roots too.)
Several of those I did not have and wanted so it was perfect, and even the ones I did look a bit different than mine so it will be interesting to see if they remain unique. I swear I have several completely different (in leaves anyway) kinds of H. carnosa that are from different people. I can always tell which one was from who just by looking at the plant.
I am especially jazzed about that sp IML 1420. I have never even seen that before and it is beautiful.
Thank you sooooo much Jaimee!!!!
Marcy

Walhalla, SC(Zone 7a)

Your so welcome! I'm glad i had a few at least that you didn't already have! I'm so glad they made it to you safe and Healthy! This swap has been like Christmas!! Ha!

It is so fun reading what everyone has received. Mine will be going out on Monday as well. I have been busy at the lab this week trying to get things done before classes start on Monday. Sorry about the delay to the person I am mailing to!

The planets must have been in perfect alignment when Sandy drew Mark as my secret swapper. His gift rocked! I swear, no matter how many plants I have, it is always such a joy and treat to come home from work to find a box of plants on my doorstep. Many, many thanks for your thoughtfulness Mark!

I was gifted H. calycina, cv. Snowball and 2 nice cuttings of sarcostemma. If (I am not mistaken, wasn't there some debate about this being the "leafless hoya"?) The cuttings are all settled in and preparing for their journey into rooted plants. Again, thanks Mark. Both you and the gift you sent rock!!!!

Also a very special thanks to Sandy. She actually mailed cuttings to my swapper as I was accidently matched with a name out of the US. The last few times I have tried to smuggle plants, have only resulted in nasty letters from APHIS. I will, of course, repay her in terms of Hoyas. I was blown away by her kindness.

I'm glad you like them, Mel! I was only sorry to not send bigger cuttings- the only really large plants I have are ones that I am sure you have more than enough of- pubicalyx and carnosa and australis. The sarcostemma is not the "leafless hoya", which is Hoya spartiodes, or Absolmsia spartiodes. That Sarcostemma is a madagascan Hoya relative which developes only minute leaves on new growth, you hardly ever see them. The flowers are white, fuzzy, cup shaped and smell like virigina night stock. Bigger plants of it look really cool, like giant spanish moss.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I need to send out a huge thank you to Joanne!! I got home from some Sat afternoon lab work and what do I find but a box that's almost waist-high at my door. Inside was the motherload of hoyas. I received nice rooted plants of kerrii, variegated kerrii, cummingiana, and affinis. I was so excited about the big cummingiana.....I've been wanting this since I lost my large plant to some odd fungus a few years back. I also received minibelle, australis ssp. australis, pubicalyx "Royal Hawaiian Purple" and "Reva", sussuela, and pimentialeana. I love every one of them. This was absolutely the best trade ever! Thank you so much!!

:) Kim

Philomath, OR

Yea! so glad you are happy and they got to you in only 2 days! God bless, -joanne

Knoxville, TN

Mark, you have nothing to be sorry about and made wonderful selections. I have always wanted a cv. Snowball and could not have been more pleased with your package. I forgot to mention that the calycina has peduncles. I am also jazzed about the Sarcostemma. Do you have a picture of the Mama?

San Francisco, CA

Mel, my plant is still pretty small, but heres a link to a photo of a mature sarcostemma (different species). Insigne is similar but the stems are a little grayer.

And this is the flower:

Really pretty, eh? When it's not in bloom it has a very Adams Family sort of look.

Knoxville, TN

Thanks for posting the links, Mark. I will look forward to blooming it and I will name it "IT" after the character on the Adams Family.
