Last week DH found a big, very dead black beetle. Yesterday I found another one, only alive. I went to bugfiles & its Aulacocyclus edentulus. I took pics of live one. (it was moving very slowly). The thing is, I have never seen one of these in the 25 yrs. I've been gardening. It is definetly not a cicada. Does anyone know if it is beneficial? Or not? I'll post pics, but until then, I need to know if it eats things....like tomatoes. Or cukes. Thanks in advance, Gloria
CLOSED: Very large black beetle
They eat rotting logs... I'm experiencing confusion (not unusual...) It's in the Family Passalidae, maybe
Odontotaenius disjunctus is a different name, or similar beetle. In bug files, the page says PLANT name? I dunno...
