Can I transplant a pussywillow?

Bensalem, PA(Zone 6b)

I have a pussywillow that is growing in a bad spot as it turns out.
I'd like to move it to another spot.
Can they be transplanted succesfully and if so when is the best time to do it?
It's in perfectly good health I just want to use the spot it's in for another bed.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, but wait until just after the leaves have fallen.

Thank you Resin I'll do that.
I do have one other question tho.
Would it harm the pussywillow to prune it first?
It's pretty tall it would be much easier to handle if I could trim it back.
I really don't know anything about it I kinda just plunked it in the ground and it's grown like a weed eversince.
It wouldn't be a HUGE tragedy to lose it but I really do like it and would like to keep it.
Thanks again.

Generally best not to prune things when they're being moved, but willows are such robust, vigorous things that doing so probably wouldn't hurt it.

When you prune it (in the dormant season), use the cuttings to start more plants. Just shove them deep into moist soil with the buds pointing up.

By the way, Becky, that's a terrific screen name you chose!

You guys are the best!
Thank you so much for your help.
Guy, I'm glad you like my screen name:)
Btw, where is Petersburgh?
I used to live in Illinois not too far from Bloomington.

Illinois, IL(Zone 5b)

I'm an hour south of there -- and it's Petersburg without the final "H" if you're trying to find it. Do you remember the pioneer village where Lincoln lived? It's five minutes from here.

I absolutely do remember the Lincoln village.
I went there on a field trip when I was in school. I've been fascinated by all things Lincoln and the Civil War ever since.
And as I'm sure you know there is a lot of history regarding both here in PA. I've spent time at Gettysburgh and Civil War museums in the area here.
Oh how fun to chat with someone from back home!
Sorry about the errant h....grin
Seems most of the burgs in PA have them.

Look us up if you come back this way sometime and we can give you the nickel tour! We live on the old road Lincoln used to take from New Salem to Springfield to pick up the mail when he was postmaster for the village.

We were in the Philadelphia area two years ago and south of there near Washington's Crossing last year -- are you in that beautiful part of PA?

We live very near there. I would say about a 20 to 30 minute drive north. It really is a beautiful area. And rich with historical signifigance regarding not only the Civil War but also the American Revolution.
It's funny that my husband has lived here his entire life and really didn't enjoy all the local history till the kids and I came along. Going on day trips and such I've learned WAY more about American history than I ever could have in school.
Thanks so much for the invitation. I'd forgotten the part about Lincoln being the postmaster. Such a fascinating man. I can't imagine what it would be like
if we hadn't had this amazing man to help shape the country we live in today.
Thanks for reminding me.
