Ohhhhh..ok! I see that now! Wow...7 ft. tall. You grow everything BIG in Ks!!! Very pretty!
LOL! Got keep up with those Texans!!!!LOL
I am not Don but I looked. LOL. Your yard is just so great Clare as are all your brugs. I love it so. Do you plant your plumies anywhere in the front in the ground? You can let yours grow all year long can't you? I kind of recall a picture where you had them all laying in your driveway to put to bed for winter. But can't yours grow all winter?
And.....what is that red blooming bush in front of your Pink Beauty? That looks so interesting.
Very pretty pictures, Clare. I love your live privacy fence.
Hi Kell! Of course, I had hoped that everyone would look besides Don! Thank you so much, dear. This place is rented, and the landlord can have my brugs and all the other ones that I put in, but I'm keeping my plumies! There is no room for them here in the landscape anyway. I have them all in pots, and they do stay outside all year in the back. I have a very small plastic temporary greenhouse set up in the back for those that are still rooting and for the ones that need the extra heat for the winter, but I have no supplemental heat in there. I posted a picture of Paula's plumies lying in her driveway before she put them to bed for the winter so that people could see how to overwinter them in cooler zones, and that is probably the picture that you are thinking of. In the corner I have Bouvardia ternifolia and red sage, both of which the hummingbirds love!
Thanks, Shirley! You are right it was definitely put in with a privacy fence in mind! You are sharp to pick that up!
Hi Clare, yep, your pink B,is reaching for the sky!!!
Had to cut mine halfway back to 8ft to get it in the greenhouse.
Clare look right where the flower emerges from the sheath,on yours it plumbs out or swells a little, and mine stays skinny, but the rest of the flower looks the same, has yours a very stong fragrance?
Shirley, did I get this white from you?
Might have been scooterbug,can't remember,or bruglover.if I sleep,I forget!
I can't believe how tall your japanese blood grass gets!!!!Is it a perrinal there?
Th sky always looks hazy in just about all your pics,is it always cloud cover there?
I remember you had all those potted plumies on the back wall, doesn't the wind ever blow and knock them over!!
Kell thought she had the only good memory!!!LOL
Gotta love her though, she can shop plants!!!!!
Hi Don! How are you, my friend? Yes, I see what you mean. The narrow part of corolla are narrower than yours coming out of the calyx. You must have got that one from Shirley or someone else. I think mine has a pretty strong fragrance at night.
Yes, the red feather pampas grass is a perennial here, and it gets big! Mine was growing in a container, but the roots grew through the pot and into the ground, and now there is no way that I can pull it up.
I think the sky looks hazy in my pics because I try to shoot them when the sun is going down or just before dark or on cloudy days. I don't like the way my pics look when the sun is bright because it tends to wash the colors out and reflect light off of the flowers. It's actually not cloudy here a lot. Santa Barbara, where I grew up and which is just 45 miles north of me, has much more cloud cover and haze from the ocean until it burns off about noon. You are pretty darn observant to notice that, Don! LOL! I can't get anything past you guys! You and Kell sure have a good memory too!
No, I'm lucky that the six-foot retaining wall around the property keeps the wind from blowing over plumies. They are snug against each other for support also. Yeah, I do love Kell. I love you both:-)
Clare
What a pretty yard just love it. Your plumies are so pretty! How old are they? I grew some from seed that are not quite that size so maybe I will have blooms next year as I see yours sure are lovely. They look so healthy next to the wall.
Bea
Feeling pretty good, been working hard outside pruning all the dead off trees and vines, etc.from the hard freeze we had a week or so ago,so depressing seeing all that brown now after a lush jungle all summer long, but a SMILE comes on my face as soon as I enter the greenhouse!!!
Your plumies are gorgeous, the only 2 I have left have dropped most of there leaves, they sure don't liked to be moved!!!!
I agree,it's better to take pics early morning,or late evening, but I have to take them as soon as I see them or I'll forget too!!!LOL
II can see the moving truck now full of plants, instead of furniture, when you and hubby retire and move to Colorady!!!LOL
I don't remember what I had to eat for breakfast, Don, let alone a brug I gave away some time ago. LOL! However, it doesn't stir any memories of a white one from my yard. Anything is possible tho. Maybe Scoot can shed some light on it.
Hi Bea and thanks! I have a bunch of plumeria seedlings also, and three flowered at about two years old, and ten or so are flowering at three years old. I have another 30 that look like they are going to wait until they are four years old or older before they flower. They say that three years from seed to flower is about average. I know someone that actually waited 20+ years for a seedling to flower. It would have been compost if it was in my yard at Year 6. They say that, if a seedling doesn't flower in the first five years of its life, it should be tossed. Here are my seedlings below, which are three years old. Many of them have "nubbed," which is a common thing for a seedling to do. A "nub" is a thing which starts to come up where the inflo comes up, but it doesn't develop, but it does cause the seedling to have its first branching. Yeah, the wall does retain and release heat so the plumies like it a lot!
So sorry about that hard freeze, Don. That sucks! Did you put your plumies in the greenhouse? As long as the greenhouse stays above 50, they should grow new leaves back. Yeah, I'm praying that move that DH keeps talking about never happens! I need some divine intervention here:-)
Clare, that is some nice looking seedlings!!!!
Green fingers,not just thumbs!
Yes new leafs are emerging,if I can keep that nasty whitefly out this winter,I'll be a happy gardner for sure!!!
Oh No Brugie you too!!!Memories!!!Are going too!!!
Actually I have no memory left except maybe when it comes to plants I like. I just had to walk all over the grocery store parking lot to find my car. And to add insult to injury, I walked right by it for I was looking far ahead for it as I passed it. I almost called my husband to come drive me around to look for it but he would have added that to his commit Kell list so I just kept walking. LOL
We are lucky Don that Clare loves us. Hard to find a nicer person and a better friend. My plumies look like Don's, leafless and cold. I haven't moved them in yet. I am going to put them in the hoophouse this year and put some begonias in the house. I am actually going to have night heat in there. How cold do you think they can take?
Yours are a glorious sight Clare. Truly are. I got the ones you sent me in pots and on a heating mat. Wish me big luck. LOL
I hear you Kell!
When I get into those big malls, brother am I ever lost!!!LOL
Then trying to find the right door to get to my car, where everything loooks the same in those parking lots!!!
Very lucky to have Clare as a friend,I hope someday to meet her, even better be her neighbor!!!LOL
You too!
What I'd give to go plant shopping with you!!!!
Beautiful plants, Clare. You have that magic touch and everything looks beautiful.
Ah, you guys are so nice. I started losing my memory when I hit 30, I think. That's when I discovered that I could meet someone, shake their hand, and say their name, and two seconds later, their name was gone from my little brain. Once I parked in one of those multi-levels indoor garages and memorized the letter and number where my car was parked only to not be able to find that letter again! It was ridiculous! Ha!
Kell, LOL at the list your husband has. I think mine is making one too! Thanks for the lovely, kind words. You and Don have always been kind to me, and I may have my faults, but I am like a dog when it comes to my friends: I'm loyal, and I remember kindness! Night heat is good in the hoop house, but don't let your plumies experience temps lower than 40 to be on the safe side. They start showing freeze damage at 32, depending on the length of the exposure. A hard freeze will turn them to mush. You've got your heat mat so you won't need luck. You go, girl!
Don, you've been a good friend to me over the years, and we've had lots of laughs and good trades:-) Thanks for the green fingers compliment. Yours are greener than green too. I would love to meet you someday also.
Thanks so much, Ada!
