Rise and shine ----- well, rise anyway. Hope it's a great day for everyone.

Up, roaming around as I can't sleep, why else to be up tonight. Was doing fine until DH came in from fishing with SIL.Its a nice night here with windows open.

Went to a friends surprise 60th birthday party at a barbecue place in a small town near here. It is in an old school. Food was good but best to sit & visit with friends we see not often enough.

Need to get back to bed to try to sleep so I can function at worktoday.

Hope you all have a good one~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi all- just stopping in for a quick 'see ya later!"

Oz, I only had one sip of wine on the boat, but DH and his wife are quite drinkers. His boat is so big that the lake we were on he had to go slow (can you imagine), but it was mobbed with others doing stupid things.... But we had a glorious time non the less- but what a lifestyle. Sometimes I think I would like a little of it, but other times it is not for me. DB was telling that it costs $2600. to store his boat for the winter - YIKES....now I know why I don't have a big boat!!

Went out and watered things - DH has instructions to give things a drink, but I thought I'd at least start them out with water. He ususally waters them just before I come home (and thinks I won't notice....)

There are severe storms forecasted for where we are going tonight- oh gads...I hate it when I am not home during storms.

~~ to everyone, I'll miss you all (no computer out in the boonies - no inside plumbing either!)

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

It's a Blue Sky Monday here, hooray- yesterday we had drizzle and thick humidity that made it just miserable.

McCool-I think D.K. is a little confused about the kitty litter....LOL tearing open the bag. I've never seen one attack the litter, although ripping open cat food bags seems to connect them with their hunters in the jungle survivalist past! My hand is actually throbbing and swollen...I'm taking the amoxicillin the Dr. prescribed. I had just come in from cleaning horse stalls when we had our little incident, so i'm sure plenty of bacteria were injected. This is the first time i've been hurt by a cat and I'm sure there was a misunderstanding after the awful week we had and then the nookitties, so I forgive her.

Regarding tetanus shots-I was due last April, and because of horses am at higher risk...however there was a shortage of tetanus vaccine as it was being sent to Katrina victims and I couldn't get a booster. If you need a booster, get one while you can!

darius-Thanks for the passive solar info. I will start that research next. We are also researching wind power and microhydro. conservation of energy is the best place to start, no matter what your energy source! Hopefully I'll be inspired to start canning the hundreds of tomatoes ripening! Good luck with your canning! hope it's cooler there for standing over a stove. That is a neat pool solar heater design!

tgif-thanks for the reminder about the cats biting when they're not feeling well. I will watch her just to be sure there isn't something else going on. Animals don't have many ways of saying they're not feeling well!

defoecat-funny about Miss Boots just being a crabby old cat! My cats like DH. I get miffed, I rescue all these critters from the pound, but they seem to know he pays the bills!!

m5-I ended up napping yesterday too. your poor DH you're not going to let him forget that are you?? LOL

I guess I'd better go see what the day holds for me.....

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

It's overcast here this morning so I hope I can get everything done that I need to do before the afternoon rains come back. This morning I am meeting with a friend who wants to delve into the history of our township, which is called Hogback. Named after a mountain that looks like a hog's back. We will be going to different areas just to get a feel for the township and to let her pick my brain about its history. She has written a book on Lake Toxaway, but that whole period (started around 100 years ago) was about a big lake being built and a Victorian hotel with lots of famous guests. The book she may write with proper research is about the local families that still thrive here even though real estate prices have gone through the roof and most of the time cannot live here unless they get a piece of land from family.
Then, this afternoon, my daughter is coming up to get some plants and visit. She is bringing her son but I don't know what I will do with him as this is not a very kid-friendly placd with steep land, too many breakables and no video games. I am trying to make a serious gardener and historic preservationist out of my daughter but this grandson is next.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Good Morning GOB's...

Hopefullly my Helper will be here this morning. I'd sure like to get all the floor joists and sub-flooring in before he starts back to school on Wednesday. I can build the walls at my leisure and he can help lift and set them after school or on a Saturday. Heck, I'm not ready to do walls anyway... haven't even thought about what windows to use nor where to place them. Even though this is starting out as a storage unit I have in mind that someday it might become a workshop.

I finally dispatched all the peaches yesterday in some fashion. Some are canned in very light syrup, some chopped and frozen for more peach melba, and some just sliced and frozen. That just leaves a bushel of tomatoes to process. Working with Brent today will be a nice change of pace!

Bonnie, I loved your comment on another thread about Mighty Plant your DH used and that if he had used any more, he'd have killed you. I haven't done a tenth of what you have canned and I feel like I'm killing myself, LOL.

Have a great day, Everyone!

ps... someone on DG is sending me a car radio!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Only have a couple minutes before I walk out the door for work.

Meezer, my DH would have known I didn't want to take that picture for any other reason then to show someone. Or a lot of someones. I laughed so hard.

Sarv, glad that you had a good time on the boat. I guess if you can afford the boat, insurance and the gas you can afford the money to dock it for the winter too. Wish I could.

Have a great day everyone. ~~~~~'s to all

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

OOOps... my 16 year old Helper boy may be in big trouble... it looks like his 15 year old girlfriend may be preggo. He has to leave today at noon for an appointment with the health dept. with the girl, her mother, and his mother. Talk about a boy with a lament over one night, whew. He knows he messed up, and he knows now the consequences.

Sometimes I'm glad I never had kids.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Whew!! Time for a break! I've been vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, laundry-ing, and am about to dust but I needed a sit down for a bit. Miss Souky pushed her on-top-of-the refrigerator dish too close to the edge and DH opened the freezer door. Iffwent the dish, hit the floor and his foot so I had to clean up bloody splotches. I told him he better plant his behind in the recliner today and not move, just to be safe. He says the foot feels better today, so I'm not going to make any effort to get him to the orthopedic clinic where my vacationing DIL works, if he thinks it need attention he'll have to make the effort himself. What a morning!!

Sarv, glad you had a good time on your outing...I cannot imagine spending that much money for a boat....I'd have a green house, and a nice gazebo for those kinds of bucks!! Uh huh, and a newer car! Different strokes. Maybe that storm will pass you by, weather predictions are worth what you pay for them.

Beautiful day here. Having lunch with the friend who has the rescued (read that as excessively expensive) cat who was supposed to be healthy. He had every imaginable problem you could think of from ear mites, to bad teeth, to fleas, to who knows what else, and now it looks like he has cystitis.
I think I would have dragged him back to the idiots who handed him off as a healthy cat and let them pay the bills. I can understand the rescuers wanting to find a good home, but to misrepresent the cat's health is just criminal. What if someone less knowledgable had taken it? It would probably be euthanized by now.

Petra, yes, meeting with old friends is a wonderful thing. My high school chums are 400+ miles away but I made it up to our 50th reunion and had a wonderful time. Just got an invite for an all school get together in Sept. but I don't think I can make it. Nice to know they would like to see me there though.

Dorothy, I'm not going to make a federal case out of it, it's just one of those handy little incidents you can dredge up at the appropriate moment in the future! And of course the picture will be valuable ammunition. He said the next time I complain about my knee after golfing, he's going to quote me "You had to (fill in the blank)" I said, if golfing resulted in me crawling on the floor to get my morning coffee, I wouldn't be doing it any more. LOL And, Carat, I think he suspects the picture would be shared, but he wouldn't say so.

Regard the biting of the litter bag, sometimes they just like to bite through cardboard and paper....Souky and Olivia have both done a paper punch job on a box holding padded envelopes that I keep next to my other desk. The flaps look pretty beaten up. Once in a while, they march around with a shred of the cardboard, looking pretty self satisfied that they've conquered the defenseless box. Wouldn't you just love to get inside their little heads?

Darius, congrats on the radio. Hope your helper shows up to get some of the work done that you can finish on your own. He sounds like a good kid.

Talked to my sister this morning too. One of the last aunts on my stepdad's side of the family passed away. She was 95. Lovely woman, always had an open door for all the kids, and the patience of a saint. One of her daughters had cancer and died young leaving three children. DS and I were trying to remember the date and neither of us could dig it out of our memory. I know we both had very small children at the time.

Oh my, it's after nine already, I haven't gotten dressed or dusted, DH is probably hoping I'll make breakfast (that's a maybe), so I need to get moving again. ~~~~ to all, see you later on. We're going to have Thai food for lunch....YUM!

Sarv------ since your men tioning wakes. A slight acquaintence was killed this morning when he was knocked from his boat by a large wake. He was a dock builder and was going somewhere is a flatbottom boat to give a estimate and has hit by a big wake about 7am. Knocked him out of the boat and they recovered his body about 1/2 hour ago in 67 ft of water. In this state boaters are not responsible for there boats wake. THEY SHOULD BE. So the boater that threw the big wake does not have to even say I am sorry. He did not turn around are stop anyway.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning everyone, we have a cloudy Monday. forecast high is 94, thunderstorms possible this afternoon, but no rain in the forecast.

Meezers, LOL on the picture of your DH hobbling on crutches from all the fun he had playing ball. A good reminder for next year, and meanwhile, he can't do much about you taking the picture. You could take it to a poster place and have it enlarged, and give it to him about baseball season next year. By then he might be laughing about it.

Darius, thanks for the offer of phoning me to tell me about some exercise that is good for the pelvis. If it involves twisting it wouldn't be for me, I'm not supposed to twist. A neighbor of mine was describing some yoga thing he had been using for a lower back problem, and when he was partway through telling me I had to stop him and say I couldn't contort myself like that. I'm supposed to be trying to do everything in straight lines. It's quite the departure from normal to say the least. Walking is the best exercise for it. Or bicycling, but I don't have one of those, and haven't been on one in so many years that I would be an accicent going somewhere to happen! Somebody asked about riding, that doesn't bother it, but sitting in the car all day is another story. This morning when I woke up and turned over in bed I heard a not so nice loud pop, and could only hope it was something going back where it belonged, but the hip is still out this morning. And now I need to get myself moving.

Back to yak with you later. ~~~ It just occurred to me that Elaine is the only one here with a computer set up so she can hear me wave. Quite unique when I think about it.

Morning everyone
I'm baaack ... had to stay out of my office last night as this room was on the hit list for cleaning and I couldn't walk on the wet carpet. I told the DH that if I went first ... he was gonna make someone a good little wife one day. LOL

dmc, I hate to hear your hand is all swollen up and paining you like that. I hope those antibiotics kick in quick and keep it from getting infected.

M5, your poor DH. He has *really* had it. Now you be kind to the poor guy! LOL

Darius, sorry to hear about your worker and his possible problems. I think kids are loaded with too much education these days. when I was growing up ... I was so nieve ... I was too scared to do anything! LOL I know I know ... y'all go ahead and crusify me. It's just that I think kids know too much too soon now. It's sort of sad to me. By the time they turn 16, there's nothing exciting left to do. Remember how that was ... to turn sweet 16?

sarv, I'm ~ing at you! Hope you are having a blast!

Mary, it really is so cute when I'm reading all the different posts, and the different symbols come up like :-), :) ;) or ~ ... Since y'all told me about them and I've assigned the little sound scheme to them ... the posts are full of little musical notes throughout as I read. I sit here smiling and chuckling ... people would probably think I'm crazy! LOL

oz, those boating accidents are horrible. Alcohol never mixes when you are operating any sort of vehicle.

Petra, hope you managed to get some sleep!

Wood, good luck with your day and with your friend.

Hi Defoe ... I think I just tried to help the DH too much on Saturday and woke up sore and crabby yesterday. Just didn't feel like being around anyone Sunday. It makes me feel guilty when he's doing all that, and I'm not doing anything worthwhile, so I always forget and do something that aggravates. I wear those little backpack pocketbooks because it keeps my hands free for working my girl, and I was reaching around to put the strap on Friday night and managed to hurt that arm again. It's feeling better today, though. :-)

Okay, it's taken forever to type this as I keep getting side tracked. Just gonna ~~~ to you Maria, Mccool, Molly, Casy and anyone else I've forgotten.

Grrrrr... I came in from working with Brent and took my boots off. Remembered I wanted something from the garden shed and went out barefoot. Stepped on a #$%$%^&* yellow jacket which promptly stung me between my toes. I feel strange, but took a benadryl because I'm usually allergic to bee stings. Haven't had one in many years so I don't know if I have outgrown the allergy or not.

Poor Brent, he's really beating himself up for his night of indescretion. He has no problem with taking responsibility for the child if there is one, but he wants joint custody and hopes to be half the father his father is. Feels he's too young to decide on marraige!

Me again, just sticking my head into the kitchen for a minute while I wait to hang out another load of laundry.

Got an appointment for 2:30 tomorrow at the Chiropractor's, and can get my truck serviced about the same time just a few blocks up the street.

Darius, if it isn't one thing it's another. You sure didn't need a bee sting and I hope you don't react to it. Your helper does sound like a pretty decent kid, at least he is willing to be a father to the child if there is to be one, and that is to his credit in an age where a lot of kids think their actions have no consequences. It's a tough way to get educated on the subject. I hope all goes well with the meeting.

This morning I went to spray a wasp nest in our small horse trailer that has been parked for quite a while, and as I approached the fender I would have been sort of leaning against to get a shot at the nest I spotted yesterday, I noticed 3 or 4 kinda sleepy looking wasps on the fender. I sprayed under the fender and there were a lot of them under there. Then when I decided those were not going to fly I got as close as I dared and sprayed the other one.

Laundry is ready to hang, Fritz needs a walk and then I'll ride Patch. ~~

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi all. I've read the posts honestly I have but don't know how much I retained. I apologize to every one that I might inadvertently forget.

Sheila so sorry bout your DH foots. I know how men can be........so I feel for you.

Oz thats terrible about the boating accident. Why haven't they passed the wake law four area? That just gives everyone permission to be wreckless and discourteous.

darius - ouch! I sat on one when I was younger and have tried to to stay away since. :( feel so bad for your worker Brent also. He sounds to me thought that he is a responsible young man. I'm sure he'll do fine.

Between laundry and forgetfulness and running out of coffee its taking me forever to type ~~~~~~~~~~~~to all I forgot.

Woodspirit-How do you get a group to take on a historic building project like you have been working on? There are a few buildings in my town and county that are older and falling into disrepair and nobody wants to take on the projects because of the cost. The Historical Society even turned down a donation of one of them because they didn't want to take on the cost. One building is an old school that is now owned by a community theater, which is a nonprofit group, but they can't seem to get any funding or grants. The other is the old town hall. Both are very large, three story, brick buildings that aren't up to code for any kind of public use. Do you have any suggestions on where to begin a restoration project on something like that, or do you deal with mostly historic homes?

Question for everybody- Do any of you have any recipes for a breadmaker? I don't care what kind of bread, just anything will do. I picked one up at a yardsale and it didn't have a manual, and thinking that I have this internet thing down and I'd be able to find the manual online, I bought it anyway. Now I haven't found any luck with finding the manual, so I thought I would just try some recipes and see where I would get with that. I did manage to make banana bread from a recipe I found online, and I modified an apple muffin recipe and made apple bread, but I'm afraid to try anything more complicated unless someone else has a good one to recommend. You all seem to be alot better at cooking than I am, so I figured someone would know. Thanks, guys!

~~ing to all.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Flowerchild,

Go to the grocery store to the baking isle. They sell packages of bread mixes and the directions are on the boxes. Evidently the user directions are universal to all bread machines.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Whooo hoooo, we got some rain today. It is currently 73 degrees, I'm shivering....J/K

Over an inch and the electricity was off almost two hours. We didn't even have any wind to speak of, I guess they did someplace else. LOL

Now I can take a watering break for at least a day. Then it's back to 100 degrees and no rain, but I will take this for now.

Yesterday, I managed to chip out six holes for hosta in pots for them to over winter.Figure if I can do six holes a day for two months, I might get them all in. Couldn't do more than six, my back was screamin' at me and that sciatic nerve thing that I hurt back in March is still there. That may be worse than the shoulder. It's always something I guess.

Well, I am going to go run the sucky monster (I have been on the pets forum too much, ROFLOL) and see if I can accomplish something now that I have electricity again.

Susan
=^..^=

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL Susan, that's what happens when you lurk around Souky and her lover boy Huck!!

I AM ON A QUEST! My shower caddy in the master bath is getting rusty...must be cheap chrome. It hangs over the sliding door and I can't find any that don't hang off the shower nozzle. Did they quit making them? Trudged around LNT and BedBathAndBeyond, and then KMart, with no luck! At this point, I'm not even fussy about what it's made of, I'm just sick of rust stripes on my soap. Think I'll browse on line and see what turns up.

Had a nice lunch, but since it was a buffet, no leftovers. Rats, that means I have to make dinner. I did make breakfast for DH. Says he's going to work tomorrow. He's hobbling better today.

Oz, I don't understand why they allow boat wakes without restrictions. Only the navigator of the boat can control how much wake he leaves. and there is no way for other boaters or folks in the water to avoid it. I agree, alcohol and operating any kind of machine, dry or wet, do NOT mix.

FC, I have a manual for my Oster, maybe I can scan some for you. The mixes in the store are expensive compared to using your own flour, yeast etc. If I can figure out the scanner, I'll dmail them. You might also want to ask on the Recipe Forum, there are lots of helpful people there! Also mention what kind of machine it is, as there may be some variation in timing, and size of bread it makes. I use mine mostly in winter...smells so good, along with a big pot of soup.

Darius, you need to wear something on your feet, between tripping, stepping on glass and now a bee sting, I think the cosmos is sending you a message. It sounds like....let me see if I can hear it....oh, yeah, it's saying "Put your shoes on!!"

No rain, I think I better go put the sprinkler on. And the mail should be here. And somebody...oh I wonder who...needs to start dinner.

Well I'm back for a minute while more tomatoes are roasting. I just have 2 batches to go! Of course then I have to can the sauce, LOL. My kitchen looks like Gypsies have been camping out in there, and I may never get the floor clean.

I'm really worried about my helper boy and what's going on with their appt. at the health dept. this afternoon. I've become quite attached to him in 3 weeks because he's a really good kid. I'd adopt him but doubt his mother would let me, LOL.

Mary, I still need you to call me about the manipulation. I learned it from a certified physical therapist and it has bailed me out many times. Takes a partner, DH or otherwise, to help.

ps, I have sneakers on!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I have been MIA all day today, and it was one of those got nothing accomplished, don't know where the time went, kind of days.

I too had problems sleeping last night, and the last time I looked at the clock it was 2:30. So when I finally went to sleep, slept until 8:30 (late for me), had my coffee, then had to follow DH to the mechanic's to put a car in for repair, I stopped at the post office and bank, and when I got home, it was time to get dressed to take the neighbor to lunch. I had promised this as a reward for winning so many ribbons on her work at the state fair. So went to a nice place, but I ordered baked fish, and it was horrible ptooey. Gone longer that I intended, so when I got home, piddled around doing some minor things, and now it is supper time.

M5, several years ago, I was traumatized by a siamese that belonged to a SIL, walked out of her house, her siamese was on the roof, and pounced on my back, it was pitch black, and for a time didn't know what had attacked me. Let me tell you, I had scratches that could be seen clear through my body! For several years after that, nobody could convince me cats were cuddly. Never did understand why it decided I was a good target

Darius, yikes, what else is gonna happen to you? I had to run out this afternoon to get to a freezer in a storage building, and I was barefoot (as usual) and squished a frog, a tiny one, but it was a horrible feeling. Didn't kill it, it hopped away, so hope he recovers. Good luck on cleaning the kitchen after all that canning!!

Woodspirit, hope you had a good visit with DD, and grandson. I stand amazed that you do so much with historical preservation. Glad that we all like different things.

Oz, that is horrible about the accident this morning. Around here, there is a wake rule, especially nearing docks etc. You be sure and be safe when you go out, ya hear?

kittymom, I guess since it has been so long without rain there, you definitely had to chip out the holes. Glad you got some, even if it wasn't what you needed. Were you tempted to run out and play in it? Remember when we did that as kids?

Mary, hope that you get "realigned" tomorrow, not by chance you are not taking your vehicle for that procedure too. Oh just couldn't resist that. I know how uncomfortable misaligned bones are, so hope you get fixed up.

dmc, hope your hand doesn't give you much trouble. Working around animals, the barn etc, you should keep the shots up to date. One time DH was shoeing a horse, and got scratched by a nail, wasn't a bad one, but we cleaned it and put antibiotic ointment on it, and a bandage, and in 2 days he was in danger of loosing his arm to blood poisioning. From then on, he wore gloves and clothing of a more protective nature.

I01,Glad that you are feeling a little better. I sure wouldn't want you growling at this bunch. I know we would be forgiving, but it would change your image!! I bet hearing your computer, with all the little musical symbols is fun.

Carat, petra, cece, Flowerchild Molly, am ~~~ frantically, out of time, as DH is in to eat.

In for a wee bit. DIL,DW & granddaughters (and me too, surprisingly enough) went to the Tribes Outlet Mall to let GD#2 shop for her birthday clothes. Starting them shopping at 5 years old is not a good thing.lol Went our separate ways and met for lunch. Found a book on mosaics marked down and at a kitchen store found a Microplane with a shredder configuration. Great weather, went early and beat much of the crowd but was glad to get home to my kids. Off to the postal store to mail a package, grocery store for milk and fruit and home again, home again rickety sprit to lay pavers for the new walkway configuration, if it is cool enough out. Kind thoughts to you all. Watch where y'all steps Darius.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hiya, All

Last batch of tomatoes roasting in the oven. Can you believe a full bushel of Romas plus 10 pounds of onions will only yield slightly over 5 or so quarts of sauce? Man, what a lot of effort with so little to show for it.

My bee sting has gone to nothing, Thankfully! Hey, I even wore my slippers out to check the mail!

Gracie is getting better every day at being petted. Now I need to figure what to do with her when winter comes. I had thought about the barn where she could nest and be warm... but then I thought about trudging out to the barn in snow or cold weather every morning to feed her. YUCK. She cannot be in the house as Bazha would eat her. Any suggestions?

Haven't heard from Brent so I don't know if they are really preggos or not. Sigh.

Bal, what's the difference in a regular microplane and one with shredder?

Darius, glad that your bite is feeling better. I heard the voices saying, "Darius, wear your shoes" also. Wonder why you didn't hear it. Or were you just not listening??? I hope for the sake of both those kids she is not pregnant. I registered a 13 yr old on Friday and she is due late Nov. Kicker: father of the child is 24 and parents aren't pressing charges. Older sister has 2 kids and she is not 18 yet. I think the mom and dad both should be smacked and then the kids.
Maybe building a insulated cat condo and placing up on the porch will be a good place.

FC, what brand is the bread maker. I have three and if it's one of these I will go in search of the booklet for you.

Well my boss just emailed me the format for my report so I better get off here and get it done before DH gets home and DD comes over.

By the way DD is finally realizing that living on your own is not all that its cracked up to be. She hates grocery shopping and if she wasn't at the gas company this morning by 9am they were going to be turning off the gas. Dont know if she made it or not. She was really upset that they didn't seem to care what excuses she came up with, not even having to get up early on her birthday to pay the bill. LOL This made up for the first 6 months of her 13th year when she turned into the devil child and refused to eat anything green. A few more events and I think I will call it even and sympathize with her. NOT

9kitty, glad you got rain. We have clouds but I doubt they will deposit any rain here.

Casey ~~~~~'s to all

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Casey, I think kids get their comeuppance sooner or later. Sorry about the 13 year old. Sigh.

Insulated cat condo may be the ticket, but I'm told it gets to zero here winter nights. I wonder how I could slightly heat it cheaply and safely?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Darius,

My x-bil had pole barn cats. He kept some straw for them to nestle in. The cats seemed to manage to stay warm and not resent being allowed in the house. They grow plenty of kitty hair/fur to stay warm through the winter. You just have to keep them brushed so their hair doesn't ball up.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Still too hot to do paving, and I don't have any sand for a good base anyway. Darius, the 'regular' microplane grates with its small teeth and the shredder, which has wider teeth is supposed to make longer 'shreds', so they said. In either event I figure if one is good then two are better, just like with pepper grinders.lol (shredder on top, grater on bottom)

Hi Folks,

Well we are back in Vancouver. Had a good, if long trip down to Portland on Friday. DH and I were both nodding from Seattle on; so it's good that the kids were on to drive the van. Just north of Vancouver, WA (just across the river from Portland), the road was narrowed from 3 lanes to 2 for some road work(?). We didn't see very much. But the traffic jam extended over 4 miles - which distance took us 90 minutes to get through. Fortunately, we had JUST stoopped for gas. But we arrived in Portland close to 1:30 am as a result instead of around midnight.
A good weekend of getting together, eating and visiting. Trip back yesterday went smoothly. We stopped both ways in Bellingham, WA for a meal and can recomment two good places - neither fast food, but not overly slow either. Got back in time for DD and future SIL to move a couple of items from their condo to the new house.

They took possession of the house just 6 days ago so it's in a bit of chaos. We spent a large part of today cleaning things for them so they can get things out of the living room. The housing market in Vancouver is, I guess, such that people don't feel they need to clean at all for those moving in. While they don't have their bed here yet (it's in the condo until it's sold) they didn't want to put anything else in their room either because it was so dirty.

Anyway, I've peeked at the messages. Wont try to'comment, but just say "hi". Will try to check in tomorrow.

CARAT-The breadmaker is a Regal Kitchen Pro K6745S. I don't know how much any of those numbers at the end matter, but I decided to add them for good measure. Thanks for looking!

Carat, that situation with the pregnant 13 year old and 24 year old sperm donor would be statuatory rape here in Oregon even without the parents pressing charges. Have you checked to make sure it isn't the same in Nevada?

Ann, road construction lane closures make little sense sometimes. Summer is construction season. It sounds like you don't have much time to sit around and do nothing. Thanks for the update.

Darius, good news about the sting not causing a problem. But I think you were wise to take the antihistamine just in case.

Got to get dinner ready, although I could do without it. We did get up into the 90's today, it is still 90 and so I am broiling some doctored up hamburgers outside in the toaster oven. There will also be corn on the cob fresh from the garden! We had 2 ears each last night and oh boy, is it ever good. The variety is Incredible and we think it is well named.

Hi all. Good thing with the sting not being bad anymore. KEEP ON SHOES! Thank you.

The same here in WI. With difference in ages like that it would be out of the parents hands for they would prosecute any way. An acquaintance of my DD#1 got preggo at 14 with a 22 yo and he sat in prison for stautory rape for 5 years. Course that didn't stop her. She had one at 15 of course then one at 17 then another one at 19. All different men and all well to be blunt (I don't want to offend any one so please know that) One is black one is white and one is hispanic. She had a fourth one 2 years ago(from the same black guy and now just delivered a fifth one only I'm not sure of the nationality of this one. She can literally say she has the United Nations over for Thanksgiving dinner. By the the by she is only turning 26 in October and her oldest turns 11 a week later. Girls like her one can't feel sorry for........ But Brent sounds like such a good kid and its rough to be that young , in love and to end up facing a hard reality. My heart goes out to both him and his girlfriend and hope their perspective parents aren't too hard on them.

On Saturday I went to the local fish store and spole with the owner. The store will put in [onds for a price DH wouldn't consider and explained what I did to set it up how many fish and what was going on.......... It kinda got to me when DD#2 introduced me to some frineds friday night as the fish killer of Waukesha. Insensitive brat. any way the nice gentleman told me that it sounded like the only mistake I made was putting in too many fish too soon. He instructed me to go buy some UNiodized salt and since it is a 100 gallon pond put 1/2 lb in the water. Something about conditioning the water for stressed fish. Told me that fish less than a inch and half should never have been used in the first place because they can't survive the outdoors. Claimed the other fish store should have known that. He told me that I may still lose a couple of the smaller fish but that once the bacteria levels evened out (in a weeks time normally) I would lose less and less fish. Well I put the salt in..............(SAT there were 7 floaters.) and on Sunday I had 2 and this morning only one. The fish that remain (about 12)_ seem to be having a jolly ole time swimming around and hiding whenever I get near to check on them. Hoping the worst is over and I can be forgotten as the fish killer. It was never intentional, ya know?

MaryE, here the parent has to file for it to be statuatory rape and from what I gather they dont want him in jail. He has a very good paying job and has been paying for everything (they cant) and plans on continuing to do so. I am not sure if she or the family intend on keeping the child. The girl really doesn't seem to care one way or the other. You can tell that he only wanted her for what she offered cause she ain't no scientist. The whole thing made me shake my head. The older sister and her two kids are living with him in his condo because its closer to her work and she can walk there instead of taking a bus. The younger one who is our student has been staying there also, but get this, ready, here it comes. Mom says they are sleeping in separate bedrooms cause the older sister is living there also and she would know.
This is very common here. Last year we had an 11 year old go into labor while at school. That babies daddy was 13 and a student at our school also, surprise surprise, and both moms were excited about being grandparents. The mother wasn't even aware that she was capable of getting pregnant and referred to her as baby the entire time she was there. The father's mother is raising the child and has sole custody.

My report is done and on its way to Reno, dinner is over and I am exhausted so a good night to all and the best the day can offer you all tomorrow.

Good evening everyone.

It's been a fine day here--- weather was reminiscent of Autumn, not too hot, nice breeze, etc. I picked two more Brandywine tomatoes and a couplle more yellow Summer squash.

We had to go to BJ's this morning as the freezer was getting somewhat bare. We tried to keep our purchases to the minimum, but stilll ended up spending more than we wanted to.

darius, glad that you didn't have a bad reaction to the wasp sting. Sorry about the problems that your helper and his girlfriend are facing. I'm with Sheila on this --- why don't all the schools have adequate sex education classes? I think that kids really ought to know beforehand what can (and often will) happen and how to avoid it.

CRS has kicked in bigtime and I'm getting tired, so I'll just ~~~~~~~~~~~ to everyone and wish you all a wonderful, peaceful night.

Well, supper was good, used some left over roast, made hash and cornbread, with of course fresh green beans, beets slaw (made for the potluck that wasn't) and tomatoes. When I have a sandwich for lunch, not hungry at all, but DH has to eat 3 times a day, can't train him otherwise!! LOL. Went to DM's, as I hadn't seen her today, went to the garden and picked her some tomatoes and corn, then remembered that I had someone coming at 7:00 for some notary work. Rushed home, and they got here within minutes of me arriving. Did a late garden walk, pullled weeds and admired the gardens, some pool maintenance, and then in to shower and READ, almost at the end of a good who dun it.

Tomorrow is a day with DTS. We are meeting to shop at a location about half way for both of us. Just need to shop for essential undergarments, and something for the cooler weather on our trip west this weekend. We always have such a good time, and enjoy being together.

I have a terminal case of CRS tonight, so will not try to bumble everything, and end up saying Darius is pregnant, and M5, has put her kitties outside!! You know how that goes.

Hope everyone has a good night, and if not "rise and shine", just rise and grunt if you must.

Night all.

Wyaaaa ... I'm just so aggravated!!! I've put the heart worm med *somewhere * and I can't find it!! I always put it in her doggie box. Now why in the *world* didn't I do it the last time I bought it? I'm going to bed! Y'all will just have to overlook me tonight!
Sleep tight and have a good one. Maybe I will find it in my dreams. LOL
