CLOSED: Leaf bug ID

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

The little guy wouldn't sit still, and I wanted to get a picture of him before he was gone, but I apologize for the poor quality of these photos. I just hope you can get something from them.

Anyway, he looks like a walking leaf. What is he?

Another photo. I really thought he was a leaf blown by the wind at first. Then I looked right at him, and the leaf was walking along the edge of my patio.

Another shot. I tried searching the Internet, and although I did find leaf-looking bugs, I couldn't find anything that looked like this guy.

On the second shot, the white thing isn't part of the bug. It's just some kind of debris in the background.

Looks like a Katydid

Pittsboro, NC(Zone 7a)

It's a katydid, but it's rather difficult to tell which species, as the photos aren't very clear.

Here's a link to the katydids on BugGuide.Net:

Maybe you can find it on here. Since you saw it, you'd probably have better luck than I.

Yeah! This looks like my guy.

It's amazing how they look so much like a leaf. Katydids make noise during the night, don't they? I must have a lot of them then. I hear the high, whining buzz and also the rhythmic "cricket--cricket" sound.

Just having a back yard is opening new vistas to me. :-) Thanks, everyone. I'll mark this closed.
