Hard lesson; and sorrowfull. Guess that bluegill was like a "typhoid mary".I've tried to raise Bluegill. but not in my pond. It was in a big horse tank. That did not work either. They just one by one died. I have a friend here in town he did put some in his pond. Most of the origanal bluegill died but no Koi or goldfish. His pond is in two parts though they would not be able to swim together. but the water is the same as it is pumped out of the lower pond up to the waterfall which flows into the upper then down another drop or falls, back to the lower. But now he has baby bluegill in the upper pond as well. He isn't sure enough to believe me that they probably came through the pump as eggs. or maybe even as tiny babies. he keeps thinking that the filter would have kept them from doing so.. Hope he don't start losing koi although he has a lllllottttttttt of water. I dug it the way he wanted. It's 30' by 12' that slopes from 3' down to 7' deep. then the lower one is 12' x 20' and it too slopes from 3' down to 5'. I would hate to think of haveing to help him pump that out and clean it. I will however warn him against adding any more " wild" fish. .That will make him worry some but this is scarey.
aquarium-is this where i post?
yes it is scary but i am glad i found that out before i put in the bigger part opf my pond in,i dont know how many gallons this one is but not very big 3'X6'X18" maybe a little deeper really havent measured it.well i hope he has more luck then i did,how long has he had the bluegill in there?my bluegill was still living when all the other fish died, maybe what he had,he was already ammund to it?so thatis why he was living? i dont know but i am going to start over lol i think it would be best anyways.well plmk how his blue gill do,i want to know if that REALLY was MY problem thxs again for all your help

Blue gill were put in 2 years ago. along with 4 Bass. as far as I know 3 of the bass died. Not sure how many of the bluegill died , But as far as I know they tried to nest in the skimmer. several froze there as he had moved the pump for the winter. to just circulate the water. I will go over this with him and let you know .
Russ
rylaff, here's a good place to go for saltwater reef info reefcentral.com I have 2 saltwater reef tanks and love them. They are a lot of work though. The fish only saltwater tanks are easy, unlike the reef tanks with corals and such. I would post a pic of my tank but haven't gotten all my pics transferred from my old puter yet and tank lights are out for the night. Will try to remember to take a pic tomorrow and post it. Here's a pic of one of the flower anemones I got recently.
Lana
Lana,
That is awesome. I look forward to more pics.I am very excited about setting this up. Can you tell me a little bit about your tanks, such as size, skimmer, powerheads, etc.
I think that is the place where I ordered my lights which are supposed to be here on Friday.
Oh Lana,
I just went to Reefcentral. Obviously, that is not where I got my lights. What a wealth of info there.
Reefcentral is like DG for saltwater tanks...well, they aren't as nice :~) We have a local reef club which is part of reef central, it's Chemical Valley Reef Club. We have a meeting about every other month our last one was this past Sunday.
Here's some more pics.
This is the left side of the 40 gal tank. It's so long it's hard to take a full shot pic. We've had this tank set up about a year and a half. The plastic bowl has coral frags in it where I propogate corals. That's our main goal in the reef club to "save the natural reefs one coral at a time". The more corals we propagate in captivity and share with others the fewer wild corals are taken from the oceans devastating the worlds coral reefs.
Your tank is so lovely. that is what I am hoping for. I hope to put some live rock and substrate in mine soon and let it cycle some more. I want to see some more pics.
