moving a tree

Wheaton, IL

We have a mature redbud misplaced in the small front yard crowding 2 nice evergreen trees and there are no trees in the far back yard. Does anyone know how much it would cost and would it be a big hassle to transplant it to the backyard where there is more room. It is probably less than 8 years old. I'd appreciate any advice Thanks. Evaluate it by size, not age. Redbuds generally don't move very well unless you take a huge rootball, but it can be done as long as the activity doesn't disrupt the roots of the other trees. That might be difficult to avoid if they're very close. You also need to consider the route the tree will take from the front yard to the back yard, and what might be damaged along the way by the equipment involved.

By the way, welcome to the forum! We always can use more people from Beautiful Illinois!!!

Also, if you are paying to have it done, compare that cost to a new redbud. They grow pretty fast. Welcome to Daves, neighbor.
