I had a estimate for pruning the trees in my yard yesterday and the arborist stated that the "silver maple is chlorotic-EnviroTree will solve this problem." Anyone heard of this product? Also-I know that prices will vary by region, but any thoughts on what is a fair price for tree pruning?
Thanks!

EnviroTree?
EnviroTree is a liquid tree food. Are they planning on root injection? What is the size of the tree and does it have any special significance? What is the reason for pruning? Chlorosis is a yellowing between the veins of the leaves. Have you considered testing the soil for nutrients and looking at a replacement tree more suited to your particular growing conditions? Here the County agricultural agent will do a proper soil test for a modest cost. Worth it, especially if you are having problems. Silver maples are generally not considered a very valuable tree. And they thrive nearly anywhere and under a wide range of conditions so the diagnosis of chlorosis is somewhat puzzeling. Pruning ( remove any dead wood and/or limbs hanging too close to a roof etc.) on a mature silver maple in this reagion would range from about $600 to $1500, depending upon whether or not the tree can be trimmed from a bucket or climbed and roped down. Removal is about $800 to $2000 including removing the wood and grinding the stump. It is location, location, location! And size too. Definitely get a second estimate.
It is a mature tree that provides a huge amount of shade for our back yard. The pruning was mostly for the dead branches that we are unable to reach. I didn't ask about root injection-but the info did say something about spraying it directly on the tree. I will have to look at the paperwork he left. We just poured a new patio and one large root was cut -which was another reason I had an arborist come by. I do not want to loose this tree, I think it is beautiful! Especially since it is my dream to have a woodland type garden. I need all the trees I can get! As far as prices, his seem very reasonable. Just didn't have any idea of the costs. I grew up on 5 acres in Oklahoma without a tree in sight!

Post a picture of your current tree/patio/backyard situation.
You thinkin what I'm thinkin VV - roots covered by concrete and not enough left to sustain the tree? Oh Boy.
I'm also thinkin' that Littleton Colorado is a long, long way from the native range of sliver maple, and the pH out there might be 436!

I don't have a digital camera so I can't post pictures :( Maybe I can describe the situation. The patio is about 8 to 10 feet from the trunk of the tree. When I said new, I should have said replaced. It was already there, just the ground had settled and the concrete had cracked. Old patio was removed and new was poured. The root that was cut was about an inch and a half diameter. I would guess that the tree was put in when the house was built, 1973. It is right smack in the middle of the backyard, which makes it about 26 to 30 feet from the house. The roots are very close to the surface in a couple of spots and showing in the lawn in others. The tree guy called it a Silver Maple, and since I am a real newbie, I will take his word for it. I wasn't home when he came by for the consult to ask any questions so I have a call into him. Am I doomed? I really appreciate all of the input!
OK -I haven't gotten any replies since my last post. I am getting worried! Does this mean the tree is doomed?
Nah, No replies just means that no one is absolutely certain without the proper soil test and a second diagnosis from a competing arborist. If the tree has been there that long than it is most likely going to be there a while longer. Do yourself a favor though, find out what your soil conditions really are. This simple test will repay you with benefits as long as you own that land. No guessing what will grow and thrive and what wont. You will be able to hold an informed discussion with any arborist or landscaper and it will save tons of money on proper choices of any future plant material. You and your family can comfortably enjoy many good years in pleasant shade and cool green surroundings knowing that you have selected a tree, shrub or flower that has a good chance of fulfilling its potential in your setting. Do a little homework and then - Enjoy!
I would like to give you a little more info on Enviro Tree. Not only is this a liquid plant food it is also a soil acidifier, micronutrient mix, and does very well at solving most tree issues. I have used the product for over 5 years and have had remarkable results. Not only on healing sick trees, but also for creating incredible growth and beauty on healthy trees. I know you can get the product directly from Northwest Distribution or on envirotree.com. I you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks! I can't get the envirotree.com website to open. Any other web addresses?
send an inquiry to northwestdistribution.com I guess the envirotree site is being revised.
