Found this on some Heliotrope today. Anybody know what kind it is?
CLOSED: Who is this pretty little thing?
Ok, after a quick Google search, I am thinking it is a Crab Spider, Misumena vatia. This one doesn't have the stripes on the side of it though. Maybe it's just an immature one?
Did a websearch came up with this:
Species Misumena species - Smaller white flower spider
Not an expert, but like to do web searches LOL
Those are excellent pictures! You should put some in Bug Files
LOL, ladygardener1....web searches! It took me a bit, but I finally got the joke. DUH!
Thank you, claypa. I was hoping to put it in BF, but I wanted a positive ID on it first. I saw this site and thought it was probably the same thing: http://bugguide.net/node/view/5783 Whatcha think?
I don't think there's any doubt it's in the Thomisidae family, and I think you're right about Misumena vatia. I'd post it, if it's wrong it can be changed. My book says they change color, which may be why it doesn't show red streaks on the side. I think yours is female
Yep, I thought it was a female too. I saw some pics of the males and they looked kinda hairy, not at all smooth like this one is.
There's no entry for it yet, so I'll go ahead and do that. Thank you! :o)
