Hi,
We are under extreme drought conditions and water restrictions in TX, that said all my perennials that I planted last fall are in survival mode showing some stress. I water them every other day with a hand hose to keep them from drying up, the plants look Ok, but they are not flush with health given the heat and the drought. I had applied a 4 month slow release osmocote fertilizer during march of this year, and it is about time to reapply the fertilizer.
Given the drought conditions and stress the plants are obviously in, is it advisable to apply the fertilizer now? or hold off till next year? Would applying the fertilizer have a negative, positive or no effect ?
thanks,
xman
Should I fertilize now (during drought)?
Your orginal fertilizer may not have released yet because of the dry conditions. I probably wouldn't put any more on the plants. Their not going to look much better without a lot of water any ways.
I think it would be best to wait. Fertilizing may burn it if it's not getting enough water to keep up with the new growth.
