Magnolia X Soulangiana 'Rustica Rubra' blooming in August?

Hello,

I planted a Rustica Rubra in April and was suprised this morning to discover that my tree has 4 or 5 flowers blooming! I live in the Bay Area (Millbrae). Is this common? I thought Rubra's were supposed to bloom in early to mid spring?

A lot of magnolia's will put out a few blossoms at other times of year too--the main bloom is in spring but I know I see trees with a few blooms later in the year too.
