this is my first post on this forum, so Hi!
this cutting bloomed a little last year at 2 yrs. old. it's now 3 and there are buds and blooms on every branch. i never got to see the parent plant bloom. it too was a cutting that i received about a year before we moved from the keys. it was in the ground so i left it and just took this cutting with me when we moved. we moved in fall and the pot got forsaken by the side of the house and took two light frosts before i remembered it and stuck it in the garage. i was surprised last year when it lived. this past winter it went into the garage on time! it's now still in a large pot, but sunk down into the ground and staying there. if we have frost warnings, i'm just going to wrap it in a wool blanket. it's about 5' high now and getting really pretty, (i think!). i don't the name of it, but thought you all might like a picture. thanks, debi
Some Nice Blooms
He Debi! Welcome to the Plumie Forum. That is a lovely plumie you got there, and it sounds like it is a tough one! Robert is the expert on plumerias from the Keys, but it looks to me like it could be Treasure Isle maybe. In any case, it's a beauty.
hi clare and thanks! i will take a picture of the whole thing today and post it here. i swore when we moved that i wouldn't get involved with plumies again because of our "winter" weather here, but of course, they are just so darned beautiful. i even like them naked. what's a girl to do? lol
Hey Trackinsand!!
All the cactus folks are migrating to plumerias lol!!
I thought it looked a bit like Tillie Hughes?
A frontal shot of a newly opened bloom would help big time.
Congrats on a nice plumie tree!!
They are adorable and addictive.
Youll have 100 in no time now that youve come here heh...
hey, how ya doin' with the succs? i hope they are thriving. the lighting was already so bright this morning, so these pictures are faded and the close-ups are a little blurry. i have to lean over some other plants and i was a bit shakey! LOL anyway, here ya go. edited to say, no! i don't want a hundred!!! lol

HMMmmm....
Not Tillie Hughes,
Clare will probably know
The Succs are doing terrific!!
I have about 65 more enroute lol!!
Loads of stepeliads and adeniums as well.
Your flower is gorgeous!
thanks for the nice words. it sounds like you will eventually be buried under your little buddies at this rate!
Ive BEEN burried lol!!
Beautiful flowers. I just love the color. It looks between pink and lavender... my favorite color of the moment. LOL
Tammie
...BTW, I would love 100 if I had room for them. some day I will move into a house with space for a real greenhouse and yard.
yes, a greenhouse would do it! it seems funny to think i would need one here in florida, but i would fill it up fast with all of my old tropicals.
You actually dont need the room.
Just start buying them and they seem to make room for themselves automatically.
Its pretty amazing!!
that's easy for you to say, your stuff is 2" tall. only kidding! LOL
Welcome Debi!!
As Michael said...glad to see you over here from C & S...and Pets for that matter!! Beautiful Plumie you have there - regardless of what kind! Michael will be sleeping outdoors this winter as his room will be filled with plants...LOL
hi chantell! good to see you again. thanks for the welcome. this seems like a very friendly forum and i'm so glad i posted. even if i never get an id, it's ok. as you said, it's very pretty and sometimes that's enough! lol
Mine range from 3 inches to over 9 foot tall.
Ill be doing some major cutting this fall.
Ooooh, cuttings! I like that word. LOL my problem is that I have to grow two of everything I want because my mother wants one too. She does have a greenhouse... small but warm and cozy in the winter.
Tammie
LOL, i know. my ears perked up too!
That gorgeous plant really adds to your island there Tracks. It looks so happy.
kell! i haven't heard from you in ages! good to talk to you. technically this is john's plant, since i didn't want to bring it, but i will take credit for it looking so good-with a little help from mother nature of course! LOL
Hi Debi, Your plumie really has such a beautiful shape; the flowers are the icing on the cake so to speak.
Your Bolivian Sunset bloomed all winter for me; it has sort of disappeared now, I hope it comes back when the weather cools down. alice
hi alice. i agree about the shape. it's just about perfect. i know i sent you hemagraphis, i don't remember the sunset though. tired old mind! lol
Nice pics there, Debi. I agree with Alice that your flower has a beautiful shape. It is much prettier than Treasure Isle. I don't know what it could be, but I like it a lot! Congrats and welcome again. By the way, Kell loves pinks so you may have to send a cutting to her! LOL!
thanks clare! kell is a gaud girl! the brighter the better! lol
LOL! I know it! She's such a cutie.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. You guys!!
Kell, I think I have to send you a cutting of my Charlotte Ebert. I have been looking for the gaudiest pink that I could find and haven't found it yet, but my CE has an inflo, and I think it may be just what you need. Here's a picture of it that isn't mine but belongs to my friend Jack of Kimi's Plumerias. I'll be sure to post when mine blooms.
Oh my, not just gaud but BIG gaud! LOL. I LOVE it Clare and it is so PINK! LOL
LOL, yeah, I figured it had to be big if it was to be truly gaudy. Lest anyone get offended that I'm calling a lovely cultivar gaudy, we mean that in the best way! Kell, I'll put your name on one of the new branches that form as a result of the inflo and will send it to you when it is ready;-)
Edited to fix spelling.

Does my pics look familar to your plumie?
I would say yes given where you got it..
That plumie of yours is going to be a big tree one day..
Please see my post:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/622518/
..in your browser search for this term homemade thingy and it should take you
to my links of your plumie..
Hope this helps!
thanks for the link. it is an interesting and informative thread. i didn't know where to begin to look for the one you think i have. i didn't understand about the "homemade thingy". it's ok though. i'm content just to have it. i don't imagine it will get all that big here because the frost will get it eventually. the ones in my old keys neighborhood were huge though.
ok..
I will copy that section here..
======================================
Ok here are a few shots of this neighborhood i was driving around looking for the big momma tree.Hurricane wilma destroy the mother tree and it is no longer there so i drove around some more to see what damage the storm did to the remaining plumies..
Almost all the plumie trees were stake up or had some kind of homemade thingy on it.

Here is the daughter tree from big momma and as you can see what wilma has done to her.
To tell you the truth i love this look and this shot is one of my favs..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0164.jpg
Hard to tell from this pic but the top of this tree is gone from wilma plus this tree looked very sick to me so i walk up to it and looked at it closer..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0166.jpg
The trunk has damage from what appears to be the borer beetle or some other kind of bug.
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0171.jpg
I put my car keys on the trunk so you can see how big she is..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0172.jpg
On the ground there are many hollowed out branches and in the tree there are many rotted branches..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0173.jpg
Here are the flowers on the tree as close as i can get to them.
If you look closer you can see many rotted or damage branches from bugs..

Weird thing the flowers have a horrible smell it was so bad i couldnt hold my nose
close to it for more then a second.I wonder if this because of the bugs and the tree is
very sick who knows..
great pictures. it is weird about the smell. maybe you're right and the tree is sick or dying. i don't think that is my variety though. the flowers on mine don't "whirl" around quite the same (if you know what i mean) and mine has a definite gold center and the colors are more shaded/blended.
Lopaka,
I have a 10 year old tree that has splitting bark like that one.
She is quite healthy (mine).
I can clearly see the bug damage on branches in your pic,
But I dont think the bark on the lower tree is damage do you?
Those are great pictures, Robert. Here is a trunk of a 30-year-old tree that is growing in container. The picture was taken by Brett Morgan of Kimi's Plumerias. It is certainly small compared to the trunk that Robert took a picture of.
Yes, I agree that splitting bark is normal, and I can see beetle damage on that tree too. You can see the holes that they make.
That tree was consider normal size compare to ones down the street i wish i had more space in my memory card at the time..
In fact 2 of my old trees were a little bigger then that..
My new 8 piece Macro kit and 45x zooom lens with a 2 gig card is on the way and i will go back and take more pics for everyone..
Mike those spilts are normal like you said but these spilts are mushy and soft and smell like rotten wet rags..
I could stick my finger inside of it but didn't feel like driving around with plumie juice all over me..
Besides next door to this house the neighbors came out and we had a long talk about plumies and his wonderful 25 foot variegated hibiscus tree..
That was a site to see i never knew they grew so big..
Oh my, we need a picture of a 25 foot variegated hibiscus . What a sight that must be. Your plumie trees are amazing. Even the rotted one!
Hey Clare, I am going to hold you to it. LOL
You got it, babe;-)
