yep, it's an ornamental oregano. :-D

Yes, that's what it is. Thanks for the info about it not overwintering. i'll keep mine protected!
Ya know, Tiffanya, fall is the best time for planting...

Very nice -- I'll have to keep that in mind for next year.

tiffanya, do you like maples? I put a raised bed with lovely soil under my maple tree and I have seedlings. It's a beautiful tree that turns red in the fall and so far I just haven't been able to make myself yank the seedlings out.

I sure hope not! Good luck -- we'll have to trade SUCCESS stories in the spring :-)

Hi, I'm originally from the NW and now live in Arizona. I am in 8b and have bougainvillea everywhere, both in pots and in the ground. The only real issue with where you are is the amount of water that it gets. The more water, the less blooms and more foliage. Ideally you want it in an area where it gets lots of sun and is sheltered from being constantly rained on and torn up by wind. If it does freeze where you are, and it's in a pot, I would either bring it indoors for the winter or put it in a very sheltered spot outdoors or even in the garage. Here they tend to freeze to the ground, and then come back 3 or 4 times as big the next season. It's almost impossible to kill bougainvillea, and the more they are pruned, the bigger they grow back. Good luck!

Katy, I love maples. Unfortunately have had bad luck with them so far -- see: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/597416/

We have planned for the backyard...interesting barked trees. We will be saving our $$ after we get the store started & profitable so we can get some "adult" / big trees.

- Paperbark Maple (I'm crossing my fingers it will do okay and any soil problems will be gone by the time we get to putting one in.)

- Japanese Stewartia

- Himalayan Birch

- "Ogon" Redwood Gold Rush (We have this already...it's the only tree in the backyard, at a modest 5-foot high!)

-Tif :-)

Thanks for the incouragement with the bougie, I think it will be fine in a protected area.

Tif I have always wanted to plant the paperbark berch tree, but have never been where I could... still cant,, no room, but I like looking at the pictures..
