my camera is not the best... the markings on it are very bright. right now it is living amongst my butterfly weed, sunflowers, and lantana. is it a good guy or bad guy?

That's a black and yellow Argiope, Argiope aurantia

edited to say it is female, the males are tiny. the little zig-zag part of the web is made by the male. They eat flying insects, so I'd say it's on our side.

That is one cool spider. They can get really big. We had a beauty a couple of years ago.
