This has the general shape and body type of a scarab of some sort. I've just not found one with the 'horn' on the forhead.
Anybody got any ideas, or am I searching in then wrong direction?
CLOSED: Some sort of Scarab??
It looks like a Brown Rhinoceros Beetle, Strategus antaeus http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/margaret/203/0cae5b00.jpg
My bug only has 1 horn and it's black...none of the Strategus antaeus images I googled looked like mine....the hyperlink didn't work for me.
The hyperlink is working form this side, but I'll try another one.
http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/margaret/203/id21.htm
It's towards the end of the page.
There is also this image from Clemson. http://entweb.clemson.edu/museum/webonly/local/lmisc/lmisc39.jpg
I also found this which could be yours and in What's that bug it is identified as Xyloryctes species. Again go towards the bottom of the page.
http://whatsthatbug.com/beetles5.html
The What's that Bug link worked and yes, that's it...but I'm having a hard time with species.
Finding the correct full classification for this specific rhinoceros beetle.
