Cherries

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I have two apples, five plums, three peach, and two pear. No cherries - I have tried many of the "just maybe might make it" types but none have done any good for me. I have lost a lot of fruit due to late frost - that is why I have started planting on the South side of my home or on the south side of evergreen plants only - it stays a little warmer. I also prune to keep the trees on the small side and cover everything but the pears when a late frost happens just to be safe. Back in OK my family takes heaters out into the orchard for late frost to keep the fruit safe, it can be done.... just not easy.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Cities tend to stay warmer. Even a few degrees can make a big difference. I have two greenhouses on the south side of the house. Planting fruit tree south of them is out of the question. Besides the greenhouses just don't have the mass that a house has so they don't provide much protection although I have a few roses planted there. I live in the country which tends to stay 2 - 6 degrees colder than the closest town, La Grange. The pastures directly north north west of the house (north wind direction) have a total of 4 trees. Not ideal conditions, but I do have lots of room to plant. Of course then I would have to take care of it all. LOL
