White turmeric trade?

Lakeland, FL

Hi guys, I could not find white turmeric listed in DG, so thought I'd announce that I have some, sent by my San Francisco area daughter who picked up some of the tiny fingers at an Indian store. They are much smaller than turmeric that we all know, are rather pale creamy color inside, and are much milder in flavor. I have read that some of it can get rather hot. Mine is not so far. I also read that often it is parboiled and eaten with a spicy sauce, or simply as a small side dish. So if you are interested, please let me know. By the way I live in central Florida, otherwise known as Swamp City, where turmeric has been in glorious bloom for over a month now.

Hi Mary,
Is your white turmeric Curcuma zedoaria? That's what is usually refered to a white turmeric. I grow a few varieties, the typical domestica, hybrid 'Bright White', Jamacian Red, Zedoaria and one with orange rhizomes from Vietnam. My doestica and Bright White are blooming now but the others are all spring bloomers.
I haven't cooked with the zedoaria but I'll have to try it. I'll pass on the word that you have some for trade (not everyone who comes here has been on DG) I tell them about it if they haven't visited here before.
Here is a picture of a Bright White with inflorescence and blooms.
