Part 3

I pretty much abandoned the pot behind the garage and this morning I was over at the property and much to my surprise he has returned from the dead. So I staked up the gangly guy and we're all happy.

I like the happy ending.... Those things don't know when they are dead...LOL

Yeah, redbuds love to play possum.

Did you hit it with a stick?

oh what an adorable little tree! Im so glad it survived! I just planted this one in May as a bareroot from Wayside Gardens. I'ts been doing great in the ground so far but only had a few flowers which came out 2 weeks after planting. I'm hoping for a better show next year. I hope he is as tough as yours!

That's a nice one. I think you'll be surprised once established how vigorous they are. Originally mine was a mere twisted stick....I actually got it on eBay and it zoomed to glory in one year. Post some pics next spring when it's in bloom.

a feature in the garden section of The Oregonian(last spring) featured the redbud as a near perfect landscaping tree but underused.

If it was a grafted cultivar, there's a good chance it broke at the graft, and the new growth will be a normal wild-type plant from the rootstock. In which case, it'll get much too large for that pot. I'd suggest planting out into normal soil.

Sounds like that ginkgo party got a little out of hand.

Looks like your camera is still seeing the affects of the catnip. Nice photo.
