new arborvitae

Piqua, OH(Zone 6a)

I just had to post a pic. This spring we had a new driveway put in and at the end we had a space left to plant arborvitaes. I just love how it turned out and just had to share My DH worked so hard in this heat to get it finished. We are so happy with the results This is the view from our back porch.

If your weather has been like ours, beer break was much deserved!

Dear Guy,
First of all thanks for looking at my post and yes the weather has been hot and humid. Stay cool.

I was also going to ask what that weird tree was at right, until I finally figured out it was a hanging planter in the foreground. One of those optical dillusions!

It does look like it is just hanging in space huh? Sorry about that.

That looks great, Buckimom! The arborvitaes will really soften the fence. Love the picture of your DH working! Mine is so patient after digging the holes....he stands there...shifts his weight, leans on the shovel and sighs a couple of times....while I'm on my knees twisting and turning the shrubs around in the hole...standing back for a look...twisting and turning again! Beer breaks are a necessity!

Yes, a good rule of thumb is one break for each hole dug. This also helps to ensure that one doesn't plant in a straight line.

And that one is always willing to plant one more shrub until physically incapacitated. It also ensures a handy supply of nitrogen rich water with which to water in new plantings.

Oh, and Piqua, Ohio. Halfway between here and Arrowhead Alpines, and precisely where my truck's transmission burned up in the middle of the night with a bed and trailor full of priceless gems. You know the parking lot off the freeway ramp where some house developer has his sales office? That's where I spent the night in freezing weather waiting for my (very understanding) wife to come up and fetch my dad and get him home, and then my (very understanding) son to come up in the SUV (after returning once from practically Dayton to get a hitch) and collect me and the plants. What a memory! I don't think I'll ever really like Piqua.

Dear Decumbent,
Oh what to say. I know of the exit of which you speak very well. Oh well, at least you won't forget your visit here as most do. LOL

An updated picture of the arborvitae. DH put the stone edging in today, imagine that on Labor Day. It was on his honeydo list. Still taking beer breaks. LOL
