The first printed edition of the Conifer Treasury of the World in 1995 contained

Dax, is this from the same book that Debreczy and Racz have been working on for decades? It came out a few years ago in Hungarian, but I haven't yet seen the English translation.

Well Debrecy and Racz are two names I'm not familiar with, however the same story can be assimilated that many decades went into the making of this book. If I remember correctly, 40 years were devoted from a young aspiring photographer and coniferite, and the scientist/dendrologist/biologist - whatever this persons official title is, went into the book's creation. This book definitely can bring into literal context 'what can and cannot grow' anywhere in the world just as my 'comparing climates' example was previously used. It's really a history of the earth, I truly believe a very well put together study of conifers on every continent of the globe, etc, etc. And the photography is supposed to also be spectacular.

Ignore that answer above, please. No Guy, this thread is about a Photo CD of 200,000 images (even though it may include text). Plus the guy I believe is photographing mainly cultivars.

Sorry about that, even if no need to be.

Thanks,

Heck I don't know Guy! All I know is that I believe the photos mainly are cultivars - that is, I think they are. Somewhere I read that '4000' new plants had been registered since the book I guess it was' and this guy has a disc for sale with over 200,000 images or whatever number he says as I think he says 200,000 someplace and then another place he says something like 200,000.

Kind of a dream CD for someone such as me:)

I'm glad you asked. Thanks.

The original book was titled "Fenyok a Fold Korul" (with many umlauts included). I had helped them a little with it and they gave me a copy. But it's not about cultivars, it's a worldwide coniferous flora. I believe the English version is out now, and perhaps that's it on that other thread.

It's supposed to be the only book of its' kind (that I know of), and yes it's on the other thread I started called 'Conifers Around The World'.

Sorry everybody I/posssibly we got off track.

Here's the link to what we've been discussing and Guy is right about the author:
